I agree, Vel, everyone know that title belong to the 'A'.

The links to the A are broken, as Sylph changed everything.

That's the new address.

It looks good, m0ds.

I sent a message to Panda a couple of days ago, and he's on now...this is just to kind of catch his interest. Go on #ags if you want to contact...though, this might be dated by the time you actually read this, but hopefully I'll be on. That, or PM me.

Truly the only real golden part of them game was the music...everything else was just eric missing the toilet and converting that waste into zero's and one's.

It's time for a new competition...Whoo!!!!

I like these theme kind of competitions, so let's continue with one! Yay!

This one will be for the kiddies.

Imagine a baby or young kid playing with their toys, and incorporate it into your music. But wait...what's that under the bed? Oh no! You're going to need a diaper change! A monster is comming!!! Oh but here come your parents to save the day!

So what does this competition entail

1. Playful childish melody
2. a monster comming to frighten child
3. Parent's comming to save the day

Use a different noticable tempo for each of these three. The tempo change doesn't have to be sudden, you could have the piece slow down or speed up to another tempo. Length? I'd say roughly one to two minutes...you could make it longer if you wish (I'll most assuredly listen to it), as there are three themes you feel free to make them longer if they need to be for musical coherency.

Hope you have fun with this one.

I use MSPaint. Of course, if you've seen my work, you probably already were aware of that.

With geocities currently usually implies a one hour interval, because if a website exceeds a certain amount of space in an hour the account is frozen for an hour. In any event, it just worked for me, so no worries. And as it's a MIDI, it should put too much strain on space...howeve if it continues, I will update it to my uni account which is more stable (I just don't like using it because it's intent is educational).

Okay, finally got a spring break and some time in which to participate in one of these things.

Stay away from the forums...and if you have to go here stick to the tech forums or the Critics lounge. Most of the people who release games don't spend too much time in the actual forum.

Other than that, plan ahead, and have a set amount of work you want to do each day.

QuoteHere's my solution to this problem, Mills: if you and your partner both agree who is playing black and who white - its ok with me, but if you do not - it'll have to be random. Fair, no?

Not really. While this fixes my problem of not alternating, if I meet someone else who wishes to do the same thing, and we both should be playing white, for example, it ruins exactly what we're trying to do.

I feel, if anything, we should specify exactly who will be what color. I may be wonderfully adept playing white, but maybe I'm not so good with black. By alternating, it allows my strengths and also my weaknesses to come out. Which ensures a more accurate result for the competition. If this weren't a competition, it wouldn't really matter, but it is, and it matters to me. Also, we're already compromising the competitions results, by only playing one game (instead of 2 out of 3; or 3 out of 5), so it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to assign people to play certain colors.

That works...however, now I have another nagging question. Shouldn't we switch between black and white, so it's not random? So if I play the first person using white, next game I play, I should be playing black.

I don't see this as much of a problem, as CJ's new voting system incorporates the question, "What category of game do you think this deserves to be in?"

I'm not sure if it's moved there after so many votes or not, or if a mod has to move it manually, but this way it allows the general mass to decide.

The difference between these two categories has been discussed at length. And some people view it one way, by room #, others another way, time it takes to complete. My only suggestion is for people to vote on the games they've played, so the games page is more comprehensive, and represents the general viewpoint of the community.

I just downloaded and used the progam...it's saying I only have 15 days until I need to pay for membership. Will it stop working after fifteen days, and if it does, I'm sure we can find better chess programs out there, I know I've found some really decent free ones in the past.

If I'm not there, then I'm dead. But my will allready states I want my dead body transported there for the weekend, so if I'm not there...I'm probably lost in baggage claim.

I agree fifteen minutes is adequate time per player, but even if it was a half an hour, and you were quick, it wouldn't take the full hour.

We'd also have to make some honor code, where while playing, we play with what we know. In otherwords not open a chess book/program. I mean it's fairly obvious rule that shouldn't really need to be stated, but it's basically don't cheat.

It would also be fun, though not necessary, if after a game was played, we post the game, and people try to teach others how to become better, and where they went wrong. That way it's not only entertaining, but educational!

Why even look into the bible for whether or not gay marriage is legal or not? No religious book should have any weight as to the equality of any person. This country is based on freedom, "For liberty and Justice for all," and denying a people a right given to 90% of the rest of the people is a form of persecution.

If you want to, call marriage something else, but let gay couples be allowed the right to the same tax breaks as "normal" couples. I don't see how it makes marriage any more or less special. My parents won't suddenly say, "I can sleep around now that gay couples can be married," or "Somehow I don't love you as much anymore." This would never happen, or wouldn't be caused by allowing gay marriages.

I'm allowed to marry any girl I want, even if I don't love her...but because I'm a man and she is a women, suddenly wether I love her or not doesn't matter to the state. Whether it matters to religions or not doesn't matter. However, I can only assume from my Jewish roots, marriage isn't about marrying someone you loved...otherwise how does one go about explaining planned marriages, where you've never seen your spouse? So I'm allowed to marry a complete stranger (granted a U.S. citizen, otherwise the govenment will look into it), but these two men/women who've known each other for years can't do the same thing?

If we go so far as to say Gay people can't get married, and it ruins the sanctity of marriage, why not go further? Gay people dating, totally ruins my night at the movie. All I can think about with my arm wrapped around my girl, are gay couples. Damn them, I say! For ruining this whole movie for me! In fact them breathing the same air, that God breathed into man, ruins breathing for me, as well. Each air molecule is tainted by the fact that a person who had relations with a person of the same sex, might have breathed the same air! How will I live! I say concentration camps! Put them to work, until they realise that gay marriage just isn't meant to be.

Mind you, I don't think the U.S. is going to start concentration camps, or have anything remotely as bad as the Nazi's. However, how can a supposed free country, claim to be such, when it's obvious that banning something from someone and allowing others it's use, not be considered directly opposed to what the country stands for. I think that by allowing a law that supposedly keeps the sanctity of marriage, it does a piss poor job of holding to it's own morals of freedom.

I won't enter any debates as to the religious side of this argument, or any religious topics being discussed. I'll leave that for another thread. Perhaps it's shit like this that makes it so damn hard to be patriotic.

QuoteNo other restrictions, but do try to avoid submitting MIDI files if you can. The crappiness rather tends to spoil the mood, I'm afraid.

I rather like MIDI's...so, while, yes you are the judge, and may not enjoy them, I thought these competitions were to be judged soley on the ability to the music to match the criteria of the competition. And while I do realise an mp3 sounds better than a MIDI, I think if one is made right, it can sound very cool. So what I'm saying is...it's kind of unfair to say you like some other format better than another. Personaly, I prefer midi's, because then I can see what someone did with their music.

How would we go about this necessarily, just find a time to meet and play, or play through the mail? I wouldn't mind playing a game or two. Time is the mot important issue, we would need people who have schedules that meet up, otherwise, if we do it by notation, it'll take two months for a game. I'm in, if we can figure out a solution.
