I'd allow you to sell my Demo to AQ2, but because of mature themes, it's probably better that it just remains as it is.

Quotethat would only be hypocritical if i actually had any beliefs, and you read wanderlady's original post you'll notice he never said it offended him personally, he said it was harmful to our souls and that is HIS belief, so perhaps you actually do need to explain further.

If you didn't carry any beliefs, then WanderLady's first post woulnd't have offended you. You can't live life without beliefs, whether that be the belief in a creator or not. And so you in your statement "could you not just keep your beliefs to yourself instead of trying to force them on everyone?" are expressing a belief that WanderLady shouldn't force her beliefs on people. You, obviously, think that his forcing of his beliefs is wrong, but it's okay for you to force him not to force his beliefs (Say that sentence five times fast!).

Hell! It's even hypocritical of me to say that what your doing is hypocritical, because I'm expressing a belief by saying that your belief is hypocritical and thus void. It's hard to express a view or a belief without being hypocritical. But now I'm just blabbing. The bottom line is, why should your total lack of beliefs be any more important than WanderLady's?

And as always, any post I make is made without intent to offend, so don't take anything personal, anyone.

QuoteAlthough this may be intended as a joke, it is not funny, but is, in fact, hurtful, and even harmful. Harmful to your own souls and to those who may read it. So I simply ask,

Can it please not be done anymore?

I think the overwhelming answer is apparenty no. While I do respect a man who'll throw in a please, to be courteous, I feel I can not comply with this request. What you are asking us to do is censorship, which I am strongly against. It would be like me requesting you not make a post of this very nature. I respect your right to give us an oppinion on a subject, just like you'll hopefully respect those and my right to make a joke.

Hypocritical, I need not explain further.

Quotehistorically, the bible is correct farlander, no historian denies the existance or crusifiction of JC, but lets not get into that... (although I'm sure we will)

I'm sure there are historians who deny the existence of Jesus as he is portrayed. But what does it matter what one man believes over another? They're either wrong or right, and unless they decide to use time travel, or in the event of the second comming, no one will ever truly know without a doubt.

QuoteI think the moral of this story is:
If someone offends your religion, keep quiet about it because if you complain, you'll be battered to a pulp by people defending freedom of speech

I don't agree. I think we've kept ourselves on a fairly mature level, most of us, and that the battering was few, and kind of worthless as most of it was hypocritical.

QuoteAnother thing I must point out: I believe you are failing to see a positive point to the situation. We are not trying to insult CJ. We love CJ and appreciate what he has given us. In our mass appreciation we jokingly equate him not to Allah, Jehova, Vishnu, but to YOUR savior, Jesus! We, a WORLD community recognize your religion first. I believe you should reevaluate your faith and how you view the world as a whole. For you to not see this positive point may in fact put your own faith, and more importantly the practice of, into question.

I don't really agree with this. I, personally hold no attatchment to Jesus, love or hate. I think it's more of a matter of the fact that CJ is close to JC. If his name was Al, we might call him Allah.

QuoteI don't understand why people don't judge religion in the same way. Religion is something that is fluent throughout the world and even if you don't believe in it, you have to accept its existence, and really I believe you shouldn't discriminate against it. If someone had a fairly resemblant name of the word (and I hate to be racist again) "Nigger", would you start calling him it? Probably not because you're well aware that you would offend a lot of people and racism isn't tolerated (especially not on the forums) and so why should something that affects someones beliefs be any more tolerable?

I think it's probably because you are born into a race, where as you hold no beliefs upon birth. Race isn't something we choose, so it can only hold that using racist comments serve no real purpose as, short of some serious operations, there is nothing to be done about it. Wheras religion is up to a person, and as that is the case, one can't live their life in fear of what people might react to a light-hearted joke, not meant to be offensive. I feel if one means to be offensive, one shouldn't have a right to their oppinion.

QuoteSo in conclusion, I don't like you at all, and even though I never actually used the CJ JC thing.... from now on, I'm going to start. Just for you. Just because it shows disrespect for you in a special way that I never knew existed before.

I don't agree with this practice at all. Wanderlady has not viciously or purposefully intended to hurt your feelings, why should you attack him in such a way? I, personally, will at least think about a post next time I decide to make a JC post, because of Wanderlady. I do not wish to hurt anyone who has only expressed a view.

QuoteHowever, I will say this: If Jesus were alive today, I'm sure he'd realise that refering to CJ as 'Jesus' or 'God' or whatever is just a joke.

I completly agree with this. I think that most religions don't give their creator(s) enough credit.

I do not intend to stop CJ JC jokes, but I do wish you to know Wanderlady, that if I do make a joke, I do so without meaning to hurt your oppinions/beliefs in anyway. I don't do them often, though, so I'm not really too worried about it. And warning to the wise, this is a fairly long post.

A marching band is where the real spirit behind a college game stems from. They play music during football games, and they march a show on the field during half-time (american football, if you didn't know).

And panda, Unilin was just kidding. He's just afraid of my mad chess and marching band skills.

General Discussion / Re:Does The Matrix Suck?
Fri 07/11/2003 05:47:30
I just like to get my expectations low, so that way when I see it, I'll always view it with a more positive attitude, unless it just sucks as much as I think it might.

I don't look at the Matrix as a cinema masterpiece, it's just entertainment. I liked the first one, though it was over hyped, the second one, wasn't as enjoyable, but it did have some fight scenes I enjoyed, and frankly, I only watch it for the fighting, I could care less about the plot. When the first movie came out, I thought about the concept for about thirty seconds, and realised I had wasted thirty seconds of my life. To me, when I see the third movie, I'll only be watching it for fight scenes. Although, I was pleased that the KFC guy was in the second one.

Personally, I'm not big on even having any names appear when the mouse is over a hotspot. I think anything drawn should have some sort of response, and it should be left to the player to choose which hotspots are important to the game. It's the game designer who should also be able to give subtle, and sometime blatant, clues to the player as to puzzle advancement in a game.

Syberia is a perfect example of a game that does exactly what this topic is suggesting. It shows the player everything of importance, and it infuriated me that I'd see all this eye candy and there was nothing the main character would say about it, most of the time.

Even in a serious game, the player can give me some serious insight to a sunset or even a marble floor. I'm an interaction whore, and without them I feel that the player unintentionally steps out from the game, and in a game, one should be immersed.

I can say without a doubt, I will be there. Even if I have to walk. Worse case scenerio, I ask my parents to loan me the money for the trip, and then pay them off later. Of course, for me it's a bit more feasible, where airtravel to NY is only 2 to 3 hundred dollar round trip.

Eric, we need to set a date for mittens. Preferably not near major holidays (at least, not when we arrive), otherwise rates begin to rise. June/July?

Or perhaps we could just talk about whether or not we LIKE adventures. Instead of picking which games are better, and explaining them, with examples.

I love almost every aspect of the adventure game. The story AND the puzzles. I don't view either over the other, when both used effectively they provide entertainment for me. Now, I don't have to like every game that comes my way just because it's an adventure game. But adventure games, in general, appeal to me.

I can still emerse myself into my games, as easily as I did when I was a kid. I love these games, and I don't think no amount of time will ever change how I look at these games. I might look at them from a different view now (that of a little kid, and currently one of a young adult). So now I can probably get a better grasp on jokes that, as a kid, I wouldn't have been able to get before.

I think adventure games still are evolving. Yes, mixing item A and B will always be a staple of an adventure game. It's a puzzle, that's part of the experience. It's when you realise that A and B could solve all your problems, when you have a whole alphabet to choose from, than it becomes more of an accomplishment, and doesn't sound so formalaic.

There is no correct forumula for making these games. Diffrent people desire different things. It's just realising this, and trying to balance between all the wants. And now I'm just blabbing, so i'll end here.

I, too, love the puzzles. The feeling of frustration as you go to every screen you can think of, click everything, and talk to everyone looking for some sort of clue. And then all of the sudden you're in class, at work, or just away from your computer, and it hits you. So then you can't wait to get home to finish the damn puzzle that's been keeping you stuck for so long.

I don't think it's so much that we don't love adventure games anymore. I think it's lack of time. When we were a kid we had all the time we needed. But when you grow up and  you have to go to work, why should we sit around the computer for hours on end just to advance the story a smidgeon?

I haven't beat the last adventure games I've bought, mainly because I play them, advance to about midgame (or at least I can only assume that about where I am), and then realise I don't have time, so I put them away and wait till I do have time. So far, I haven't been able to get time. Last year I seemed to have plenty of it. Now, though, I'm in the uni from 8 in the morning to 6 or 7:35 at night (depending on which day). I do get breaks between that time, but not enough for me to feel like I need to accomplish anything. Then I have work, and am in the Marching band, so a free weekend, let alone a free day, is a rarety.

I don't like adventure game, I LOVE them. I loved The Longest Journey, even though it was often times long winded, I felt it was a step in the right direction of bringing an adventure game some more depth. I loved Grim Fandango, even though I got stuck for a solid year. I loved Space Quest, even after going through a good part of the game and realising you forgot an inventory object from room1. But with a limited time in my schedule for them, it just seems less appealing for me to spend my time on puzzles that are there to make the game just that much longer.

I don't think it has anything to do with the genre being dead. I think it's still alive and kicking. I still do love this genre. I think it's one that requires some measure of intelligence, and in some ways is above other games in that sense. And it's a unique way of telling a story. I get satisfaction from playing these game, I just have to wait until I have time.

April is the begining of summer here in Florida, yes. And as far as KG, I just did a brief search on the last posted message on that thread. So, that data, is inaccurate.

But that doesn't mean KQ2 didn't draw in a crowd then, as, because there was more people on, they had time to look for KQ2, thus more traffic.

We did have the debate competitions somewhere in that time period, too. And I'm sure that cause an increase in traffic, as well.

-MillsJROSS
#715
The fact that it was summer might be contributing factor to the traffic. More of us were free to use AGS, than during the school year.

Looking at the games that came out, KQ2, I believe could be a big factor, in drawing people towards our site.

That's all I can think of, as far as main contributions to an increased flow of users during those months.

I, too, enjoyed SQ5, but it wasn't my favorite. SQ3 was my favorite, for some reason I was able to play that game over and over again. I have played all of the series at least three or four times (and SQ3 probably seven or eight times).

If you like the SQ series some fairly good amatuer games have been made, and are free, that are about roger wilco. You can find them at the virtual broom closet. http://wiw.org/~jess/roger.html

It's from Blazzing Saddles. There are easily more famous lines from it, so it's not the easiest of movie trivia, but I thought I'd throw it in there.

I'll refer you to AGS manual. Search for animations and read. If you can't understand what to do after that, then I will gladly assist you. This isn't strictly an easy answer, I can't just say do this and this, I'd have to go into a long and detailed message to tell you what exactly to do. But why do this when you have a manual that can answer your questions. I'd suggest reading more than just that, too. Read it all, several times, that way you'll have a better grasp on what the engine can handle, and it might open your mind up to puzzles you couldn't before, do.

-MillsJROSS
#720
What kind of puzzle is this, might I ask, because there might be a more simple solution if it's just say a mate in one scenario versus maybe 8 queens on a board puzzle.
