I usually shave every three days, but I'm probably about as hairy as Rodekill. I always have a shadow of a beard, even right after shaving. But if I shave everyday I get razor burn on my neck. I'd grow out a beard, but the place I work only allows me to grow sideburns to my ears and moustaches to the corners of my mouth (and I don't want a moustache). SO during the summer I had to shave about everyday, and it was killing me. I'm glad I only work two days a week now. And now that I am my hair growth isn't quite as bad as when I was shaving everyday, not by much mind you, but by enough.

QuoteI don't have an opinion on this topic, but I'd like to correct that Photoshop Phriday/MS Paint Game takes no more bandwidth from the site than a word game. Images are hosted elsewhere.

For the most part this is true, but quick download of word game pages vs. pages full of pictures shows that there is about a three to four KB difference. While this is nothing remarkably different, over time this difference may add up, that and I want to be difficult. However, as bandwidth is not a problem there is no use arguing either one.

And pretty much word games are fun, but be responsible. Simple as that. A 24 hour rule, I believe would also be a good idea. I get more annoyed when I see three or four people on one page posting back and forth to each other, within an hour. However, if it game like these annoy people, they simply have the option of ignoring them.

So yeah...and gilbert's post is pretty much accurate to what should be. And DG's anger at these word games is not unjustified. The end.

I don't think banning word games is quite a necessary thing. As far as bandwidth is concerned, if CJ thought is was eating up too much bandwidth he'd tell us. Word games are fun.

Now I personally haven't participated in any recent word games, because of lack of time. But it doesn't take me long to realise what thread is for and whether or not I want to relpy to it. What about the Haiku game? No one really complained about that, everyone thought it was a wonderful idea.

This is the gen gen forum, for people to have a little fun. We allow people to compete with photoshop and microsoft paint in the other forum, which takes a lot more bandwidth than a string of words. I really don't see why this is an issue.

Now, if people are just being stupid and wasting post with penis joke after penis joke, like Scummy said, I can understand trying to deter from that. So, perhaps what we should do is when participating in games like that, think whether or not this post adds something of interest or thoughtfullness before posting. You can be funny, just don't go overboard.

Or perhaps it was designed by the chinese themselves to reduce the population.

I can usually make a backround in an half an hour to forty-five minutes, characters can vary greatly, as some I might want to walk, others not. Objects five minutes max, usually. Puting all the responses to all hotspots and making walkable areas and regions and all coding anywhere from one hour to three hours a room. Of course then there is a dialog, which takes a big chunk of time, even though it's not part of the how long does it take to make a room thing. I made an almost complete room yesterday in an hour and a half, but it was a fairly unimportant room, with only six hotspots, and no characters.

My system of making a game:

1. Think of basic plot and story
2. Split up your ideas into parts (not necessarily evident to someone playing the game, but pieces so that have a general goal, like escaping a pit).
3. Make art for one room
4. Flesh room out
5. Add Character to room
6. Add dialog to character
7. Test Test Test, the room.
8. As you finish up one piece start another one.
9. Allways think about future pieces, even if you don't want to go ot the trouble of writing down all puzzles and plot twists (ie. Me, because I prefer to leave my game able to change to other ideas that I may get over the production period), so that you can connect earlier inventory puzzles to new ones.

Or....

1. Click on Make Game in AGS options menu

Maybe it's just that not enough people have put flags up, but I find it funny how Florida has it's own little island of us AGSers. It's good to see that there are other Floridians other than Grundislav and myself, it only means there will be more people to learn the Gloves 2003/4 song.

I think the icons were a great idea. They tell someone, who is about to invest time in a game, useful information. This way, people can't complain about abusive language, if there was an icon that blatantly told them this kind of language was in the game. Whether it needs to be updated or not...I'd personally just rather have CJ work on AGS.

However, I still think that a 10 point score to determine whether a game is good is not specific enough to be accurate. It encompasses graphics, gameplay, plot, everything! If you have a seperate point system for everything people can see what hurt the game. And those who don't care so much about bad graphics will play the game. Because when I'm looking at the games page I see a lot of games, that I feel have a higher score because of graphics, than some games that aren't as good. But it might just be me ranting...still I'd stillr ather CJ work on AGS than the games page. Maybe he can give it to someone who's willing to volunteer to keep it up-to-date, and willing to encorporate some of these new icons.

General Discussion / Re:Major TLJ problems
Fri 05/09/2003 06:17:39
Whenever I have any problems with my game, especially, memory problems. I press ctrl+alt+del go to the processes tab and end processes that my game doesn't need to function. I have XP so it might be slightly different on 2000, but I remember it being similar, when I did have 2000. TLJ works fine on my system, and XP hasn't yet given me problems with this game in particular. Try that and tell me what happens. Other than that, save often, like after every puzzle. That's what years of playing old Sierra games taught me to do.

Goodluck in your adventuring, TLJ, is a great and fun game when it works.

I've been fairly busy now that school has started up, but my work on Ace Quest 2 has not diminished, whenever I get a free hour or more in a day, I dedicate it to the game. Sometimes I don't get time, so the work is slow. But it's something, and I'm confident I'll finish working on the game. When will it finally be complete? I don't know. It'll probably go quickly once I get past the begining, mainly because I'm trying build the characters a bit, and it takes some work. I'm also trying to add animations and sound effects where needed. It won't be professional quality, by any means, but I think it'll be decent game when I'm through with it. Estimated percentage of completion: 10%. That doesn't sound like a lot, but considering I restarted the whole thing two or three months back, it does bode well for the game. And like I said, progress should move quickly once I get past the begining.

I got this a couple days ago (it was posted on #ags topic), and hadn't played it before. I went for the cd version download (which I guess is just added voices), and I must say, it's a wonderful game. It's a must play, and it's free...so really you can't argue with that.

I haven't finished it yet, but the puzzles have proved intelligent, so far, but not automatic (in other words, you might have to explore a bit before you fully realise the purpose of an object). The voice acting is fairly good, and the dialog has some very funny moments.

I must have played SQ3 at least ten times. This is probably my favorite SQ game (even though I love them all). I'm awaiting this with joy. I don't think the roger looks too bad, it's kind of a mix between SQ6 roger and sq3 roger.

Just a suggestion, but I think that if we have to pay for lodgings, that the U.S. AGSers combine their efforts so that travelers from abroad don't have to pay for room and board (as their air fare will most likely be more expensive anyway).

The L-word, huh? I lost my llama to the desert last year.

I don't necessarily think the internet corollates to depression. I'm on the computer and internet a lot, and I'm one of the least depressable guys I know.

But on moments I have gotten a little depressed, I just started doing things to keep my mind of it. Just keep yourself busy until you forget that your depressed. Or, just look at life as one big joke (without a punchline), and laugh at the good and the bad. That's what I do. Something bad happens to me, I laugh my troubles away. I know it seems strange, but why not laugh? It's a form of relief. Same with crying. Sometimes it's good to have a good cry (no matter how unmanly it is).

They've been spouting out Star Wars drivel for a loooong time.

And yes, character development is key. There have been some great puzzle filled games that just don't keep me playing because i feel nothing towards any of the characters. They're 2 dimensional, so to speak. And it feels like you're playing with a cardboard cut-out. While games like GF, flesh these characters out, and give you something to care for, which compells you to see that character safely on his way.

Just be prepared for utter chaos when you return.
