Statistics are nice and fun, but does is this a recuring pattern from previous years? And if you think about it, 7 for June, considering the month is only half done, shows that plenty more might be on there way.

It probably has something to do with people getting free time, like Spring break and Winter break, and all other forms of breaks. Perhaps we should also the ratio of posts in a month to that of the games, just to see if they relate.

Tons of games are also being created. It's a question of how many will be finished, eventually. I expect we'll see a good deal come in soon, now that summer is upon us. I, personally, have been working on my game when free time comes around, after a month or longer of doing dittly (well, I was trying to do well in my classes).

The forums are diffrent, to say otherwise would be false. Different doesn't mean worse, though. It's just time working it's magic. Here, I'll give you a nice little analagous true life story to show the forum evolution.

Throughout my high school years (just to give you a frame of reference) I belonged to my temples youth group, all four years. The first year was my favorite year. We were a small group, maybe 15, and we all knew each other. However, as the years past us by, my friends in upper classes went on to college. So by the fourth year I only knew my best friends from my class year and maybe some other people from a year or two back, but only on friendly terms. The youth group maybe gained 5 member out of that original 15 that regularly went. Yet, to me, it wasn't as enjoyable. Why?

For the same reason that's happening here. With time comes change. People lose interest, and soon you notice your friends aren't posting as much, so you don't either. And, yeah, you make attempts to meet some of the newer crowd, and they're a good crowd. Yeah, they seem to be posting silly crap, that for some reason you yourself can't remember doing the same thing, back when you were new. They seem to be taking over the place. What happened to that old group of friends. Where are they now?

These forums are ever changing. Of course, we grow attatched to people, and when those people leave the forums don't feel the same. And when you first enter here, everything, to you, is as it has always been. So you dive right in and make as many friends as you can. Eager to please the community.

The truth is, the forums really haven't changed at all, just you. You're just in a different phase of a cycle.

As to to Terry Brooks, I attempted reading the books, but I didn't even get past the first one. I thought, "Hey, haven't I read something extremely similar to this? Yet, this book leaves a bad taste in my mouth." I couldn't feel anything for the characters, to me they were as flat as the paper.

Welcome to our humble home Bluke. Suprisingly enough, you'll probably be the most mature member here, but that's irony for you.

Even - Yeah, you Americans are so funny and horribly wrong about your history. I'm just glad FL annexed from the union.

If you notice there is a smiley that N3t put in his post. I think he was just kidding. I think we have to lighten up and be able to take a joke once in a while.

I'm sure even Bob the Hun didn't mean anything by his post. And I'm sure they'd both apologize if they thought it hurt Peacemans feelings. They could also kiss and make up. And then have make up sex. Then smoke a fag (Speaking of which, anyone seen m0ds lately(insert smiley here)).

I can assure you that Las Naranjas isn't 8 or 9. I just gave birth to him only a couple of years ago, he can't be more than 3 or 4. (Actually he is 17 or 18). And what does it matter the age of the community here. Trapazoid, from my take on him, has shown himself to be a very mature 14. As long as the people who are young don't act their age, I'm fine with them.

But we went through the spermatozoids years ago. That's before Chris was Castrated, Cursed not to have children he had only one thing left to do. Create an Adventure Game editor.

I don't know if I agree that there is nothing "new under the sun." Yes some games stick to a genre, and in that sense, there is nothing new. We are influenced by the work of others in making our games. If we totally alienated our work from previous works we might alienate the player from the game. But just because a games genre and general mood might be influenced by a book, movie, etc... doesn't mean that storyline isn't unique and original. It just happens to use elements that exist to tell it's story succesfully.

Let's take my game for example (as I'm not going to interpret others work, when I could be completly off) Ace Quest. Basically you have your good guy bad guy thing going on here. A very common element in the making of stories. You need conflict and resolution. Your bad guy has a sidekick with more intelligence, also done before. The main character is made to feel inferior through the narrator, Space Quest was a game that did this well. Its humor ranges from punny to  shocking. All these humors have been explored. But whens the last time you heard a story of a man so fat he's causing a flux in gravity, pulling the earth towards the sun? I'd like to think that this makes the game original. Yes it takes elements that already exist, but it is original.

And yes, it is hard to think outside of the box. If everyone could do it all the time, though, there would me no metaphorical box, anyway. The box is what stands for what we have already set in stone, but once you go outside the box and convince others that this can also be done, then that idea is now in the box too.

As for you Garage Gothic. If you feel that your homage of these books you enjoyed is taking you away from originality, and being original is what you want, then yes, try to be original. You can still employ the elements that these books use, and you already have strayed from them. Try to find a balance, though. Use what the books gave you, but don't have your main focus on something original.

And if you really want to think about it, the Adventure Game market is relatively new, and really untapped, as far as originalty is concerned. And the masses don't even crave for originality, as can be seen by Hollywoods popularity.

I don't think season seven or eight were that bad at all. I wouldn't argue that they were the best seasons, but they did have their moments. I don't really have a favorite season, just favorite episodes.

I think I'll be satisfied with the movie. Holly's in it, so that a plus (I still haven't figured out why they cut him out season 3-7).

Maybe you should make it so that after tabulating their score, you say why the reasons were right or wrong, and what may be a consequence of not adhering to those set rules.

Of course, most people might be prone to ignore everything and take it until they get it right. So perhaps you should make it so that after they take the test, there is one or just a few last questions where the answer is given somewhere in the answers of the test. Like blue plus red is equal to 13. Something random, where if they chose not to read the text, they'll be forced to read it to register anyway.

If that doesn't work it's five page essays about sierra's point and click interface vs. the lucas arts verb coin.

I heard a while back that it was supposed to come back out in August of this year. However, I am not sure if that still holds true.

Just like to say that the description for AGS 0 is only half correct. Grundislav and I pulled out resources together to make this. I wrote the script, he did the voices/backround sounds.

General Discussion / Re:Polls on this forum?

Andail hit the nail on the head. That's exactly how it would happen. We would get pissed off, and in another year we'd bring them back. Let's just not do polls. A moderator isn't a special person with the ability to suddenly make an important poll. Why would endowing (sp?) him with this power do anything at all? Polls just don't serve a constructive use, for the most part.

I think he needs glasses. It gives anyone a sort of intelligent look about them, if done right. Of course some doctor accesories couldn't help, like a stethescope (even though he isn't a medical doctor).

I still think the debate competition can still go on. I think one of our problems was letting the community vote. While a goos idea, initially, it has been shown otherwise. Not everyone has voted in every debate, leaving more or less judgment from the ocmmunity whether or not to vote. Yes, I am aware that some debates were longer than others. So people with short attention spans or people who care not to read, should not be the people we use to decide a debate. We should have an odd number of judges that are people who will be committed to voting, no matter how long the debate topics seem. This does represent a problem of its own, considering that the community, who no longer has voting power, may not be as interested in the debates anymore. However, the debates are really for those who are debating, it's not so much a spectators sport, so the problems not huge.

We should still commence with these debates with the rules we have now, I'm just suggesting ideas.

The polls were abused when they were in place. To say now that the community has matured past a point where those polls wouldn't be abused would be an utter lie.

HOWEVER (and I use capital letters for emphasis)

If frivilous polls were deleted immediatly by a moderator, then they could be useful. I don't think you could limit them to a certain forum become some polls might apply to a certain forum.

HOWEVER (another twist)

What poll isn't frivilous.

HOWEVER (twisty twisty)

If the poll does require anonymity, where knowing who votes for one option might, in turn, potentially hurt anothers feelings, I can then see their use.

HOWEVER

I really do see polls as pointless on these forums. The only thing I can see them being there are for a laugh, or if CJ wants to know what we think is more important on his "things to do" list. So really, CJ, should be the only one with this power. And if that doesn't convince you, then the fact that you can make your own poll slap it on a website, should make up for this. If a poll is that important to someone, you do not have to limit yourself to this message board.

The polls abuse forces more important discussion down. When they were in place there was a point where the page was literally filled with nothing but polls. And I'm sorry to those who thought that knowing what soda product was better was impertinent to this forum. None of the polls really had anything to contribute, and thus polls were removed. I think that if they were back in place that there use would go much the same way.

I saw it a couple of days ago. It met my expectations. Which was, it would be a fun action movie where my brain wouldn't be forced to think. It killed a couple of hours. There were a few flaws, neo's CG fight scenes did look just that, and it was annoying. There are tons more I could easily point out, but I expected as much. The first movie, as it stands alone, was very fun. The second one was fun, too.

If I had annalyzed the movie there was no way I could have enjoyed it. My brain hadalready shut down as the trailors came on, and didn't come back on until I had left the theater.

I determinant Gilbot to be funny.

I can't wait to see this movie. I only expect pure Hollywood entertainment, but as long as I have that expectation, I think I'll be okay.

Once I get a credit card I can't wait to get this. I'd pay a few extra bucks for a jewel case...as long as I get a signature to boot!

Played the demo, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The voice acting was wonderful, and did indeed sound professional. I loved m0ds music. The writing was great. All around its stupendous. Congradulations on the hard work, that will pay off, I'm sure.
