Alternatively you can try the Lua plugin, since I'm 110% sure that Lua has libraries to interface with the OS.

Everything's in the title: I'm from Paris and I don't freak out, so why should you?

Let's just hope nobody has forgotten the lesson of 9/11, the "war on terrorism" and all that bullshit.

Uh oh, what is this thing?

That should be up to the engine; scripting should have no ability to set locations to save files.
Well I'd rather be safe than sorry ;)

Haha I love the creativity on this one, the description is almost better than the drawings.

haha I hope it's a nice game! :) I want to try it too asap. I wonder how it fits in the MM timeline.
That said, why is the seductive blond not visible on the cover? All lies!

I'm all in favor of moving everything out of Program Files.

Regarding the "complications": They're the same for every game nowadays. And indeed, I think adding a shortcut to the folder would be a great idea (let's start for Windows, usually Linux people know where to find their stuff).

I have one demand though: make sure that folders manipulation in the script leaves no room for headaches and humans mistakes. For example: When you're never sure of the name of that special folder (was it C:\AppData? C:\Users? whatever). Another example: Beginners mistakes, like trying to hard-code the whole path in their script (like "C:\Users...") and then the game is on a foreign system and the path is actually "C:\Utilisateurs...", you know, that kind of mistakes.

I've found the holy grail. I'm sorry if some readers already knew about all this, but this blog article is blowing my mind.
It's everything I've always wanted to do in terms of pixel art, while having both the 8-bits look AND the comfort, power and flexibility of Photoshop.

BEHOLD! http://danfessler.com/blog/hd-index-painting-in-photoshop (by Dan Fessler)

Note: I've posted this in "aventure-related" because I consider this to be a general tip that is part of the gaùe production process (possibly for professionals) and does not fall in the "I've made a thing, please give me criticism" box.

Amelie, you really, really need to stop withdrawing every sprite that you think don't meet expectations, because that causes a lot of stress to think that everything you made can disappear overnight.

Nice system.

I wouldn't mind having no fighting system at all, as those parts weren't necessarily the best in the Indy games. Much rather I would like to see more great puzzles. :)
I never really liked them either but I came to realize that some players just loved them.

Please tell us if it's a good FPS.

I just realized that we haven't posted anything for over a YEAR. That's crazy.

Progress: the project is slow but there is some progress. A few backgrounds, a few suitable sprites, music, scripting... I personally am still rather optimistic about all this.
I've experimented on several tools and special effects modules, most of them remained unfinished. That's sad.

There is one central thing that we don't have though: a FIGHTING SYSTEM. I already posted in the forums about this, to collect ideas. The biggest issue is: how to make it fun (unlike Last Crusade/FoA, which were rather simplistic and not tactical to say the least) while being rather intuitive and efficient to control, both on PC and tablets.
I had that idea that the player should be able to interact with some specific spots in the background to pull some dirty tricks specific to the room he's in. Then I realized that the FoY team also had that "dirty trick" idea. Dang. Well, the idea to interact with the background is still sligthly different from their idea.

What's missing really is a brilliant idea that would make the fights FUN. Brilliant ideas are hard to pull. Who would have guessed?

Also I don't feel comfortable with implementing a fighting game in AGS. Some time ago I implemeted a small platformer and it was a train wreck (mostly because I tried to take advantage of AGS' built-in walkable areas. It turned out it was a bad idea).

For the record, the dicussion about the fighting system was taking place >>THERE<<. This thread is not the right place.

Hey I actually like the military jacket ;)
But if you could say who you are that would be great. I think I know who this is: who else could draw plenty of fun concepts of sprites instead of doing the one task that they explicitly asked for? (that animal animation) ;)

@mad: I'm always a bit worried about the size of the face.

@everyone: which do you think is better? mad's one, or my last edit, or Seven Cities' edit?

Congrats Silverspook! :D
Kastchey, enjoy the trophy!!!

Also, a word for Dor Hajaj: You didn't get a prize but your background was simple but with backgrounds like that you can create a very atmospheric game. I love pixel art that has a simple color schema.

That said, I dodn't understand how CW got more votes than other finished backgrounds ???

I think I nailed it. And thanks to the glorious 32-bits, transparency allows to draw sub-pixel elements, like the string holding the monocle. All hail 32 bits.

QuoteHow do you perceive the monocle?
You could get rid of the black outline and have a white outline on the right side (reflection) that blends in his face towards the left.

Otherwise, the portrait looks great.
Good idea. My issue was that a light outline would conflict with the light pixel meant for the sharp nose. But I didn't think of adding a light pixel on the right.

OK, I know I'm going to sound like a psycho, but I'm more like the kind of guy who is fascinated by psychos.

I just had that disturbing thought, hear me out. I was doing some research for my game, browsing backgrounds of adventure games, and I came across a screenshot from Heroine's Quest, depicting the main female character, and also that fairy character (the young lady wandering naked in the forest).

And it struck me: you know the Internet rule "if it exists, then there's porn of it". Do you think that someone ever fantasized on the heroine? Do you think there's erotic fan fiction of her out there? Erotic drawings? Etc. That's totally possible, I think. My mind would be blown.

As for the rest it's a nice sprite
What about the face? Is it not too noisy? How do you perceive the monocle?
