Damn, I'm getting my ass spanked.

@Amelie: Regarding your forums picture... Please do keep searching ;)

i have to insist that MONSIEUR OUXX choose just one entry per category.

OK, OK. I don't want to be slapped with a crow bar. Have you noticed I didn't vote in the previous competitions? That's why. I just can't choose. ;)

artistic: 304
playable: WRK
concept: Loominous

highkingtorygg, please try what Crimson Wizard said ^. And if it doesn't work, answer monkey's questions.

I think that part of the voting-process is to actually make that hard decision where you have to say: 'ok, I hate not to give him points for this, but...'

You're totally right. I just couldn't.

My votes :

(please note: This time it would have been really unfair to vote for just one person each time, considering that there is no entry that stands out, and they're all very good. So I took the libert of voting for more than one person where it seemed appropriate)

artistic: 304 and WRK *
playable: WRK and Haggis
concept: Loominous and Grundislav

(updated my votes in a subsequent post)

* (Misj and Selmiak, you did great too)

Grundislav I loved how eery you entry is, but there doesn't seem to be much to do in the scene, that's why you didn't get more votes from me.
WRK I can clearly see all the intermediate puzzles that could lead to an escape. I can see the game! ;)
304 I love your excellent drawings, but my heart belongs to crispy pixel art (hat's totally arbitrary), sometimes too much digital painting repells me (yet, you did get my vote) ;)
Loominous, excellent drawing -- maybe a bit sketchy compared to your former entries. But I understand it takes a lot of time. That's already amazing.
Creamy, nice entry, I feel sorry that I didn't give you any vote! unfortunately it wasn't excellent in any of the fields : the special perspective doesn't make it very playable, etc.
Selmiak you almost got a vote for the concept because of the sentence countdown.
Mouth of war : You entry would certainly be very atmospheric with some scenaristic building up coming before, but not just by itslef.

Interesting technique. Very late 90's, but eh, if it works.

The title screen's concept is nice but the contrast and saturation are badly chosen, making the image very busy and noisy. In the end it's not very readable.
The other ones are cool!

It's pretty hazardous to hope that an animation will be sync'ed with a sound, even in professional game engines.

The good practices would be :
1) To keep the sounds in the animation separate and play them only when you've reached the corresponding frame.
OR
2) To create a video with sound and play it.

A dirty workaround would be to use the Seek function to force-position the sound file at the right place when the corresponding frame is reached on screen, but as you can imagine that would make the sound stutter.

Apart from that, you can only double-check your game cycles per frame and seconds (as Snarky explained) and hope for the best. Everything can be ruined on a slow computer where the sound takes too many a few milliseconds to be loaded and starts paying delayed.

OK I promise I'll finish tonight. If I'm not done, I'll forfeit (I swear I'm not being lazy, but I only have bits of one hour to draw)
#1552
If I just... Could... Have... A few more hours.... MUST... FINISH... BACKGROUAAAARH

Apparently everyone already knows how to use AGS inside out ;)

WRK and M.OUXX ONES are STUNNING!
Really? I was worried after Mandle complained that I was showing my chunk. (roll) <-- this pun. (wrong)

Someone still hasn't digested the "randomly put something on the floor to make Brandon trip without any visual clue that it's even possible" puzzle.

I HAVEN'T EITHER.

PEOPLE. You MUST make that funky midi track. I really really want to hear that in my headphones.

Imagine that you're walking down the corridor of an old British mansion, and all the portraits of all the illustrious family ancestors are hanging on the walls, looking down at you. These ancestors are Rise of the Triad, Warcraft II, Goblins 3, etc. Do not disappoint them or you'll be haunted until the end of times.

Additionally to what Ali just said (which is all true), the strongest asset of AGS is its community. Yet, it's not obvious to the newcomer that unlike some other engines, with AGS you'll get immediate help about just about anything you ask. And it'll be fun. How many others can say that?

Holy mother of farping Jesus, what's going on? Are you all becoming insane? Next thing I'll know is that CJ will come back to life just to join this contest.

Still a work in progress:

I think the "ain't broken, don't fix" thinking doesn't apply here.

Why do the community members (not the newcomers!) go on the AGS website? --> Essentially, for 3 things :
1) Download AGS
2) Download a game
3) Go to the forums

1 --> That happens less than once every year, when there is a version change. And it would be the home page of the site anyways.
2 --> 50% of the times, I reach the download page from a link in the forums. And you don't go looking up games so often anyways
3 --> I never use the forums link on the AGS website. I always type "AGS forums" in Google (and that's for people who don't even have a bookmark).

As a conclusion: that wouldn't change anything for the community members. Yet, it would be a big improvement for newcomers. I think the forums are too "hidden" withing the site. That would actually be an enhancement.
Oh, and I'm not grabbing WRK's enhancements just because he suggested them. It's just that they are exactly what I had on mind for the website for the last several years.

I'm getting completely lost with all those Sierra remakes and demakes. I can't tell anymore what's real and what's just mimicking old tech. Larry IV was never a graphical EGA point n click? Or is it just that you're adding full-screen portraits?
