Here's my entry! It has some weaknesses but I'm happy I managed to create this pixelly "dead leaves" texture and I'm also proud that I produced this background rather quickly overall. Good pipeline, from a game-producing perspective.

Welcome back adventuress!

I see plenty of great submissions! Dammit, the competition is going to be tough again!

Here is my pre-alpha version ;) What is it you say? No wreck in sight? Erm, well... It's coming, it's coming! Be patient!

Oh well the blame's on me, I could have sworn I had done that, but apparently I hadn't! ;)

The boat:
Spoiler

I've used the tree trunk and the improvised sail, but I'm not sure how to start sailing now.

Random things I've tried : I've tried pushing the goat off cliff (just in case), I've tried interacting with the giant tentacle, I've tried talking to the two swimming archeologists... But To no avail

This is my first ever background blitz entry.

Nice! I'm honored that it happens in the iteration that I'm hosting! Nice interpretation of a wreck, too, even though the catastrophy probably didn't look very dramatic. --But you never know, if it happened the same way as in Les Misérables, then there's room for plenty of narration ;-D

Keep dem backgrounds coming! Sadly, I haven't had time to start my own yet, but I'm not giving up on that plan!
#1667
hey apparently I didn't read all the thread messages well enough, I only saw the things like "sweet cherry" and "my knight in shiny armour", etc. But I didn't see that there was some sad stuff too mixed with it.
Therefore, apologies, and I remove the "flirt" award.
Adventuress, please accept my apologies and come back! Let's have some fun with this competition.

bye and good luck everyone
Oh come on now! I'm not sure qhy you're offended, but we're all very excited to see your background, so please come back and finish it! :D Every AGSer here would like to see it!

#1669
Now that's the spirit! Nothing was meant to hurt anyone. If someone can outdo Kasander's perfect mix of haiku and pixels (flirt wreck? ;) ), I'll be blown away. Take that, regular trophies!
#1670
Someone please mirror this game! I've been trying to download it 4 times, but with my bad connection and Mediafire together, I never succeed! Yagh!
#1671
The drama reached its climax 4 days ago when a little change appeared, unnoticed, in the first post of the thread.
#1672
Dammit, Ben, you've ruined the competition ;)
Oh well never mind, I'm entering anyway! The theme of the "wreck" was whispered in my ear by someone, but I only just realized that there IS actualy a background from Indy & the 7coG that would work!
#1673
Like someone said before.... Holy crap.

Fear not, other contestants! As you can see this has been painted, so there is still room for some crisp hard-core pixel-art.
#1674
adventuress you better finish your drawing this time! I think you're capable of amazing things.

Yes, that is higher contrast. Never, ever be scared to pump up the contrast.
And I also agree with the good practice of never using "real" black but instead some tinted dark grey (whether be purple, or any other color depending on the needs).

Now I think the face needs a bit of rework to match the quality of the body. The close-up portrait shows a longer nose, going all the way down to the mouth, which is quite low on the face. The face itself is rather long with high cheekbones.

==============================

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BOYS AND GIRLS...

The long awaited background Blitz is back!
(sounds of crowd releasing its massive enthusiasm)

THE THEME IS: A WRECK

EXPLANATIONS
You will immediately think of a ship wrecked on a shoreline or reef, or lying at the bottom of the sea, or even a spaceship crashed somewhere, or anything else the imagination can conceive. But more generally, it can be about any collision that leads to a deserted place or abandoned set.Maybe the most skilled of yous will be able to draw the scene so that the story of the wreck can be understood by the viewer just by looking at it!

SUBMISSIONS UNTIL : 15th of February!

CRITERIA
  - Concept (a scene that stimulates the imagination, or something interesting, or clever -- something that makes people say: "Oh, I see!")
  - Playability (could it be used in a real game?)
  - Artistic execution (you know, there's always this one contestant who makes everyone jealous of his skills ;))

TROPHIES :
You want them proudly sitting on your chimney and you know it!

BRONZE  SILVER   GOLD

it's useless to insist : adventuress has a very circumvoluted way of writing. Either you deal with it and manage to filter out the useless information in the very long sentences to keep only the core meaning, or you better give up and go read another thread, otherwise you'll get mad and start a flame war very soon. She has the same effect as an Icey Games thread, so think twice before you comment. ;)

The point C written by UtDefault user.
Well to me that's the weirdest thing in your game : you use the "pick up" action as "use with". You keep saying it's a bug in AGS, but it's most likely simply a bug in the end-user scripting (i.e. you or the guy who made the Verbs module you're using) of the Verbs interface. I would be very surprised if it wasn't just a confusion at some stage between "eModeUse", "eModeInteract" and "eModePickUp" somewhere in your interface scripting.

I'm pretty sure someone experienced with AGS could fix that rather easily. If not, I shall apologize thoroughly. I strongly recommend you send your source files to someone you trust and who is a bit experienced with not only AGS, but specifically with AGS scripting.

Which community are you talking about?
I just meant the AGS community. I suppose the person to whom you sent the code is selmiak? Well we have a project in common but don't worry, if you've sent him the source code privately, he didn't share it with me (and that's perfectly normal). I didn't even ask him because it's your decision and nobody else's.
I'm interested in the code to help fixing the bugs you said you couldn't fix ("use X on Y", background speech, no unhandled interactions EDIT: most bugs fixed in version 2.5, non-skippable cutscenes, etc.) but if you think that's irrelevant then it's none of my business and I'll stop complaining.

Hints&Tips topic :
Spoiler

Out of sheer curiosity, what is the hint that tells you that mixing the two flowers is a deadly mix? Is it something from the Italian popular culture? Like every Italian kid knows that mixing those flowers is toxic? For example, in France we know that thrush is very toxic and shouldn't be in a home with kids or pets.
Or is there an in-game hint about mixing the flowers?
