It appears I have gotten into a walking dead in this game....which is a real shame, considering how great it is otherwise:

Spoiler

After making the milkshake for the woman, I made it again (thinking that they boy might want it). Now I want to make the coathanger-pole thing for the attic, but if I put the blender jug back on the blender, he doesn't do it, and says "I don't want to do that all over again". Besides, the idea that I can't just rubberband the whole coat-hanger to the pole is very annoying- I know what I have to do, but I can't do it...why on earth would I have put the hanger in the blender if I didn't read it in the walkthrough? It doesn't make sense

Sorry about the bug. I've updated the file. You could try to download it again, copy-paste the save into the new folder and try to load it. I don't know if it'll work, though. About the fix:
Spoiler
The fix is that you're supposed to be able to pour the milkshake out in the sink and then place the empty cup back on.

Spoiler
- When you use the detergent on the jar in the lounge after you've unlocked it, it sais you need to pry it open...

I'll fix this.
Spoiler
- When you put the jar back after you've used it and shake it again, it shakes forever...
[close]
That's intended.
Spoiler
- Quit in the menu is written in uppercase?
[close]
That too.
Spoiler
- When he first knocks on the door, you can see his talkcycle mouth moving through the back of his head. Smiley
[close]
That's actually his neck hair that is drawn on and off by the scaling.
Spoiler
- When you open and close the oven, if you click on the oven body instead of the door, it'll make the open/close noise but the door won't move.
[close]
Should be fixed now.
Spoiler
- You can use the opener on the peach can, but not the other way around.

That's just weird :)
Spoiler
- The red haired lady says "He killed is own father!"
[close]
Ouch. Fixed.
Spoiler
- Alex can walk right back into the basement when his mom tells him to, even though the player needs to use the key every time to get in and out, and Alex wouldn't have a key.
[close]
Fixed.
Spoiler
- After talking to Alex, he still doesn't seem to recognize his corpse, or want to talk about the corpse with the old lady.
[close]
He's just dumb.
Spoiler
- I don't know if it's just my screen, but the beginning couple letters of each dialog choice are getting cut off by the left side of the screen.
[close]
That's extremely weird. I don't know why that would happen.
Spoiler
When you follow the lady into the kitchen and talk to her, she walks back to the lounge. She isn't the fastest with her walking aid but when you follow her back to the lounge, she doesn't even appear in the hallway but is already halfway the lounge ... meepmeep...  Grin
[close]
See, the thing about that is...
Spoiler
You can pour anything you want into the jar and shake it. You never empty it. Then you even add the right ingredients and it's a yummy milkshake... including all previous items? Wouldn't it be more logic to include the sink and empty it and keep track of the right ingredients in the jar?
[close]
I blatantly stole this idea for the updated file. :)
Spoiler
I played the game twice now. The first time I took the file and opened the box on the fireplace in the pink house (where I found the file) and found a key. The box in the original house was empty. The second time I took the file back to the 'original' house first: also a key! So  you always get the key when you open the box, regardless the house you're in.
[close]
That doesn't really become a continuity error inside one game, though.
Spoiler
When you take the ingredienst of the milkshake but don't open the can of peaches and add them straight away you're told to open the can first (very good!). But when you open the can, you have to put all correct ingredients in it again (even if they were in there already) to get the correct result.

Weird. My code says that shouldn't happen. I'll take another look at it.

Thanks for your kind words, I really appreciate it :)  As for the bugs, they are, uh, easter eggs...? :P I'll try to address them and update the file.

Strange Visitor: I put up a walkthrough.

---THIS GAME---

In This Game you play as This Guy, who has landed a cracking job selling mobile phone subscriptions. When he encounters a demented old woman he smells an easy sell. Dot, dot, dot, as they say.

I don't know how I'll feel down the line, but right now I'm pretty proud of the game. I wanted a look and feel that says, "this is just a simple little game, no big deal." Hopefully some of you will give it a shot, and maybe even enjoy it :)

EDIT: Modified the file with a few fixes.

This Game has earned three cups from the AGS review-panel :)
#26
He doesn't have the problem with any other games.

PM me if anyone wants to take a look at the file :)

- Montague
#27
I use 3.0.2 SP1.

I assume he would have told me if the problem occurred in other games as well, but I'll ask just to be sure.
#28
He said the problem first occurred while talking to a character. This is just a bunch of player.Say/.Think/cOthercharacter.Say/.Think-stuff, no voice-acting, sound-effects or anything fancy.

There are no movie-clips in the game. It uses MIDI-music and Wav-sound. There are no plugins or modules. Debug-mode is on.

#29
He says the problem still occurs even though he plays with no other windows open at all. A different tester says there have been no such problems, and it has never happened to me either.

-Montague
#30
I don't know what that might be. It's a pretty straightforward game, it doesn't really do anything unusual.

I'm currently beta-testing my game, and one of the testers reported the following:

"the game would just minimise randomly, I was clicking around once and it minimised, I was talking to the woman in the opening house and the game minimised. It also happened again whilst looking at (inventory item)', when I was looking and walking around the old woman's house and pretty much anywhere. It didn't happen when I did the same actions so I guess it is just a freak bug. But it happened a lot, about once every fifteen seconds (regardless of what you were doing) after it originally started, "

"I couldn't do anything meaningful for the next few rooms as this bug happened more and more. "

He's an experienced beta-tester for AGS-games, so I doubt there's something wrong with his system.

Any ideas? :)

Hey people :)

In This Game you play as This Guy, who has landed a cracking job selling mobile phone subscriptions. When he encounters a demented old woman he smells an easy sell. Dot, dot, dot, as they say.

This Game is my second AGS game.

FEATURES:
* A brand new protagonist, This Guy, based entirely on some jerk I once knew.
* Glorious 320x 200 resolution graphics
* Pretentious title

SCREENS:

PROGRESS:
Story: 100%
Graphics: 100%
Scripting: ~95%
Sound/music: ~80%

So it's basically finished, it plays fine from start to finish, but a few non-progress-related interactions still remain. And some sound. And beta-testing.

Ok, thanks! :)

Just to make sure my game's current behaviour is correct: The crosshair or sprite shows up on all items if: a) I edit one item, mark for either crosshair or sprite and then test the game; or b) if I load the game and test it without loading any items into the editor. It resets to no marker whenever I load an item into the editor for the first time for each session. Is that about right?
#34
Bump.

Anyone? :)
#35
No, that ain't it, but thanks though  :)
#36
I have what might be a seriously dumb question: Every time I close the editor and reload the game, the "draw crosshair"-boxes for all my inventory items are reset to "No marker" and the color-values I type in disappear. I find it weird because it saved my crosshair-settings just fine up until two days ago. Help? :)

-Montague

EDIT: Oh, and the same thing happens if I check the "use sprite slot"-option.

EDIT2: Update, day 2:

I checked "used sprite slot" for one item and tested the game. I selected the item, no marker appeared.
Then I selected "draw crosshair", values 1 and 15. Tested the game, selected the item, the crosshair appeared.
Then tried once more to change it to "use sprite slot". Tested the game, selected the item, the sprite-marker appeared. But what more, the sprite slot marker appeared on all the other items as well - even though they were checked to "no marker."
Tested the game once more, this time no marker appeared.
The game still resets all items to "no marker" whenever I shut the editor down, regardless of what they were before.

Is it a bug, or am I just missing something incredibly obvious? The same thing happens for any game I load into the editor. I updated to SP1 when the problem first started to appear, btw, before that I used 3.0.1.

Very grateful for any help.

The first portrait: The angle is pretty hard to get right if you don't mirror the image a lot.

This is an edit of the image in your first post that I tried to mirror and adjust "the wrong way" before flipping it back to its original direction. I've also pronounced the mouth and the chin and added one shade to the mix.

Thanks for the compliments, guys! I'll be on the lookout for someone to do music for the sequel. I haven't really considered a translation, but it sounds like a lot of work. I'll have to think about it. Thanks a lot for the offer, though. :)

Plis help me! I want to play this great game... but after I talked with the guy in the pub who told me to come bach next day, CP has to go to sleep but she says she is not tired and ... I dont know what can do in order to continue playing... that IS MY BUG, I see other can continue the game further than me.

Thanks a lot!!!
Hey Eli,
Spoiler
The things you have to do to trigger the sleep-sequence is: Talk to Armstrong about Cayanne and Arden, deliver phone to donner, and after having done this talk to Arden. He will then suggest Cayanne get some sleep, and when you exit to the city map all locations but Home will be unavailable.

Rui,

That's good to know. :)

Radiant,

You mean behind instead of in front, right? In the newest version the description is displayed directly underneath the inventory window so at least you can see what it is.

Yeah, I didn't bother to make portraits for characters who didn't have conversation options.  :P

Seaduck,

That's certainly a legitimate complaint. I should probably have put some more thought into the description. Sorry.
