Just hanging out in gametutorials from now & then I can tell you that LOTS of people are naive. They really do think it's gonna be easy as pie.  They're not even finished learning the basics of the language & want to make games like Neverwinter Nights.  *poof* Here is your magical wand, strike me up a game! ^^

General Discussion / Re:Kings Quest on NES

It was on the NES because that was the nicest console system available at the time.  Why else? Oh and not to mention the market was probably growing so much & they wanted to see if they could get a piece of it.  Makes perfect sense actually.  Unfortunately it didn't work, probably could have on the SNES.

Edit:
Here is the game & the emulator if you want to try it out.  This is the best emulator that I know of, it's fastest & has just about everything supported.  Works great for KQ5.  You will think the sound is messed up, but it's not.  Heh.

King's Quest V NES
This is a rar file, it contains two files: The King's Quest V.nes(the game file) and the zip file containing the emulator(NNNesterJ in English).

I've had tons of 'projects' since I started working on the computer(ages ago...) & none of them have ever been scrapped.  If anything they were put aside for lack of time/motivation.  Most of them are game-oriented things, and to expect one person to finish a game(especially like that of an adventure game-or one that requires alot of code) is foolish.  It's just not realistic most of the time.  If I were heading up a real game project I'd want to have at least twenty different people working on it.  :)

Hm I'd also wager that alot of people could finish their games but it wouldn't be of much quality.  I could finish mine with crap graphics & music but then nobody would want to play it.  All by myself, I'm giving myself till January 2004 to finish it, though I've still not decided if that's a realistic goal.  I think the idea is that games are easy to make, and I don't think that is true.

I worked at Domino's before....what was your position? How the hell could you get demoted? Seriously my hamster could run Dominos.  I don't get it...were you a manager? Did you burn down the building???

Really? Ok good cuz I had imagined it was either 'easy' or 'insane' & that I was stuck working with the latter now.  But if you say it's as easy as making windows then it must be pie cuz windows are pie.  :)

General Discussion / Stupid computer

So I've got this built in graphics adapter in my old computer.  I'm poor so I can't finish the new & mighty machine.  Anyway,  it's always done well for me, I can play Icewind Dale 2 & that's good enough for me.  Then, I started learning Windows programming & such with VC++.  Oh boy!  But I wanted to do graphics(yah cuz making windows gets kinda old), so I needed apparently to learn a graphics API of some sort.  Yes ok so that goes without saying.

Skip ahead skip ahead.

Ok so I checked out OpenGL & DirectX and someone says, "hey OpenGL is easier to learn", that I need to go with that one.  Hahah, my gfx card is so old/crappy that it has no support for OpenGL.  Actually it has OpenGL drivers, but when attempting to do anything with them....BAM BOOM CRASH BANG! The computer dies.  Spiffy eh? ^^

AGS Games in Production / Re:PQ2 Remake

Yah I heard there was a project already too.  But don't feel discouraged, make your game & have fun with it. :) I for one am a HUGE fan of the PQ series & would be very interested in your project.  If you need a character artist at some point, I'd be willing to help out.  Peace!

Wow just get over it.  It really isn't affecting you if someone idles..you just think it is.  How is it affecting you? Is it making your day go from great to awful? Seriously? Of course it isn't.

Oh and kicking them is fun but since almost everyone has auto-rejoin it will only result in needing to ban people & that will gurantee a much quieter chat-room...that's for sure.

And again, there aren't that many people in the chatroom to begin with...sometimes I have seen maybe 12 or 14...but that's the most I've seen.  This isn't a big deal, don't you people have games to be making?

EDIT: If I sound a bit rude it's cuz JCash died & I'm still a bit pissy over it. Sorry. :)

Something that implements and makes use of background layers....

Anyway I don't think it's possible in AGS anymore so it's no problem.

I don't think I've ever played Kyrandia 3...played the first two for sure.  I'll have to check that out.  If you tick somebody off does it affect the game outcome?? That's what I'm looking for in my game. :) Since I'm very moody, sometimes.

I don't see the reason for a limit on idle time...? What's the purpose of imposing a limit?  Personally I've never been in any IRC room that ever had a limit, so I don't like the idea.  If it's not hurting anyone, it should be ok.  Also, from my short experience(and it has been short), without the rants that go on there wouldn't be a whole lot going on....   That's just my experience.  Now, I may not have spent alot of time in #AGS, but rest assured I'm not new to irc & can honestly say that 'rants' are usually the norm.  Just my opinions :) Peace!

Anyone have one? Would be much appreciated!  If not that's ok, just thought I'd ask around.

Who's John Howard??  Never heard of anyone by that name...but ow! plucking eyebrows must be painful.  But I can't talk, to freak out people I know, I can viciously rip nose hairs out while tears run down my face :) But I'm not crying...it's just a reaction I get from the pain.

"unexpected end of file - archive is corrupt."  Bummer, I wanted to hear it!  If you fix, I'll give it a listen. :)

action/adventure is a bit odd for me.  But adventure/action/rpg smoothes it out fine. :) I'm putting a project together for fun that's a full-on fighting game for AGS...course, not just any fighter...the mother of all fighters.  Hope it works cuz then I'll have something to waste my extra time on! :)

Hehe I was trying to be funny about saying low. Guess I bombed. :/   But yah, you have no gurantee & yup I'm super new... and it's ok, no offense taken. :)

But I'll win ya over, just wait & see!  Heh. And yah I think there should be something on the main AGS webpage for it.  That'd be great & then I wouldn't need to make a database.  But even then really, I want to do it for myself cuz it gives me an excuse to dissect everything & learn more.  So it's all good.

When you say platform jumping, do you mean fast-smooth jumping as in a platform style game.  Or do you mean making the character jump from one platform to another? I'm a little confused but interested in the challenge. :)

That's a good idea to use an arrow as an indication for the door.  Although seemingly unrelated, there is a game called Icewind Dale 2 where you may hit the Alt key to illuminate all doors etc.   This could very well be an acceptable function in a game, though it shouldn't illuminate 'secret' doors.  Just a suggestion. :)
