Ah, my growing hatred of Internet Explorer is just another new way in which I am a nerd.

Anyway, I replaced most of the tables, and specified the remaining tables' positions in the CSS and now I think I've lost the wobbling. Thanks for the help, guys.

Nevermind, someone already said that tables were being deprecated before I did.  So sorry about that.

Actually I hijacked that thread myself from the first post.

Ahhhh...You sneaky devil, you.

I must say...that from the sounds of it, you are just about the only one who cares about the calendar (oh and Domithan too)...because your thread got hijacked into an "oh noes, what if the world ends in 2012?! isn't that ridiculous?!?!" thread.

Dude honestly, I didn't know we even had a calendar....

No, SpacePirate, I'm doing this for fun, there aren't a lot of horror games here, and I want to make one.

But yeah, that's the right idea...Be subtle... Be subtle.... No one asked why Robin Hood was a fox back then...

But Robin Hood had no humans in the story, the animals were the human-characters.  I think no one asked because it had been done like that many times in story books, it was cute, and it didn't introduce a moral dilemma about whether or not humans and human-like-animals, PLUS animals could exist in a world.  If Robin Hood had caged up their own stupid cousins in a zoo and threw peanuts at them to kill time, it might have raised a few eyebrows.

Also...if we're basically critiquing this story/artwork for a supposed game, doesn't this belong in the Critics Lounge?

Nnnnoooo! Please don't use ripped backgrounds from other games. It'll be hard to take the game seriously.

Don't listen to those people! They are insane sociopaths who couldn't tell their left sock from their right sock.

You lie! There's no such thing as .... as... a RIGHT sock!

I was almost excited for this...but using backgrounds from other games is kind of lame.  With the exception of the unused resource, that's much cooler, but I dunno.  With an extension like "Extended Edition", people are going to think I had something to do with this. =p  Of course I'm joking, but yeah I regret calling a PQ2 remake the "Extended Edition".  Sounds so lame.  Carry on dude!

All I meant to do was give a stark example to elude to the presence of value and how it could affect her piece.  I have no intention of saying, "do it like my example".

It's done overboard on purpose to express a point, sometimes it's easier to get it across that way.  What she decides to do with her art is up to her, I would never try to "complete" someones art for them.

Hello!
I am thinking in buying a 500GB External Hard Drive.
I have two options, Hitachi and Samsung. I know Samsung is a well known brand in TV and other stuff, are their HD good to? Hitachi is a lot cheaper.  ;D
Are there any computer geeks with an opinion on this subject?

I think it depends somewhat on the model, but for the most part I would avoid Samsung....and Hitachi if there are any other options?  Otherwise, just as a shot in the dark because they're both pretty much as good, I'd go with Hitachi.  I've had several Samsung drives, all with one sort of problem or another.  If you can find a Western Digital or Seagate, might be better choices.  That's all based on experience with those drives.   Sadly, even the best company will now and then put out a dud.  Do a research on the model number for both drives you are considering.  Google them and you'll get feedback.

Sometimes it's easier to see the difference than it is to explain it.  So, I decided to do a very quick edit to illustrate some differences in value and how it can affect your painting.

So let's take a look at these four.  Your original is on the right, the modified version on the left.  The black / white version is basically both versions, with color information removed.  It's easy to do and check for yourself if you edit in photoshop for example.  Just throw a solid black layer on top of the image and set the layer blending to Saturation.  It's a good idea to do this as you're painting, to make sure your colors are staying true to your value.  What this means is, it's easy to go over the entire painting with very saturated colors and lose sight of the front-to-back separation of elements.   Your stronger values should be closer to you, while as things go back in space, their values tend to weaken.

What you're after is a sense that the picture reads.  That's probably one of the most important things you can learn, right up there with composition, although composition is number one in my opinion.

I left the faeries a little bit stronger in saturation to help with that space, because otherwise the corner is very empty feeling and your eye tends to stay too focused on just the unicorn.

An easy way to desaturate if you've gone too far, is throw a duplicate layer on top of the one you have, desaturate to a lower value, and set your eraser to low opacity, like 30% or so, and start erasing over the parts you want to be the focal point - the stuff in front with the strongest color.  Erase until those things start to pop out, and then take another step back and check your values.  Well, I hope it helps...cheers!

Edit: One more thing, why not change the orientation of the chicken so that it's facing toward your focal point, kind of like the frog?  Is it running from the unicorn? It seems odd how it is, and reversing it might help pull the viewer in more.

Hero...the best way to learn AGS is to take it one step at a time, and start at the very beginning!  There are tons of threads in the Beginners Technical Questions forum that are geared towards the very start.  Another way to approach it is, once you have a nice foundation of the very basics (like loading a BG, your first interactions) - you can search (at the top, next to Home | Help | ....) for stuff that you're specifically struggling with, or a specific topic you're interested in learning more about.

It's pretty easy, and if you're good at art like you say, that's the HARD part covered.  Dig in and start coding!

I like it...it's VERY top down.  Can't see much, it's like a black spot....maybe go a little more Gauntlet with it, and get a slightly angled top-down view for a bit more details?  Or not! It's cool.

We had pancakes for breakfast when this post showed up.  Sadly, I think the pancakes in your graphic look better than ours did!

The stuff to the left of the rightmost building is what we pan from to establish the scene, otherwise there's this house in the middle of nowhere. The player doesn't actually interact with the left part. I just wanted something to say "This is our location right now."

Ok, knowing your intentions helps a bit.  If it's just a quick pan, maybe it won't matter as much, but if you want to consider some changes, I think the left edge and the road are the things I'd work on.

I love the right side of the background...but everything on the left just makes me confused.  The perspective thing going on there is a cool idea, but it just sort of seems like it was randomly swooshed in there.   I think if you took the left side of that road, and made it go straight toward camera from the vanishing point instead of curving....then it wouldn't look quite as odd.  That's what I'd do anyhow.

I, too, am unable to discern what all that stuff on the very left-most side of the BG is.  I thought at first it was the moon, then I saw the black line connecting it and I'm guessing that it is another light-pole but very close to camera.  This seems like strange composition to me, it's more confusing than helpful.  I'd remove that.  What's the role of the left-side of the BG exactly? Knowing that would help in guiding you in a direction.  As it is, if the house is the most important thing, I'd say lose the left side of the BG.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Background Critique

It's so dark.  Is there going to be any light source like a lamp to see?  I could barely see the sign...maybe I'm getting old.

Other than that I don't have anything to add...it seems like it will turn into a nice background at this point.  But, since so far everything is dark blue and before there were bright red circus tents, I'm not sure what the background will look like with any of those other elements added.  Are you planning to add that other stuff in?  Or are you going to take it in a different direction?

Anyhow, I like the style, big improvement over your original artwork.  And yeah I see the monkey island resemblance somewhat.

I think it looks great, yo.  The black doesn't bother me.

I think it looks a lot better now.  All the lines are really evenly space, it's much better.  My only suggestion now would be to chop off the white pixel at the bottom....it looks funky and nobody will miss it.

Well dude, that's awesome.  Either way, sure look forward to your videos.  Let's Plays are one of my favorite things to do when I get burnt out from drawing for ten hours.

Sorry but no. I'm specifically targeting games for the consoles and avoiding PC games due to their instability. I think my attempts at making let's play videos on the PC are cursed...

Instability? If the game crashes, pause the recording and pick up before it crashed....  And if you avoid the game because it crashes, but that's how everyone has experienced the game, then what's the difference? You're doing Let's Play justice!
