Holy snap! You totally got picked to do the music for Colossal Tech's newest game! Here is your first assignment!

Take this background to our newest adventure game and make a song that goes along with it.

Good luck!

Hello,

I made these the other day for the AGS community

It's a template of a character that you can paint over or get inspiration from for walk cycles

He has no hands really, just tentacles. I suggest addings hands if you use it.

I'm especially happy with the down walk cycle. I'd give out my photoshop files but they're a mess and not in any way organized that another human besides myself could understand them.

Also, as it appears in a post Zor made, some people might not know how to use a sprite sheet. What you do is when you want to import this into AGS you choose this image and then make a selection that takes up the first image inside the green boarders for frame 1. Then do it again but for frame 2. This way you don't have a folder full of "Walkup1.bmp Walkup2.bmp etc..."

I'm not too happy with the walking up animation so if anyone feels they can edit it to make it [or any of them] better then feel free.

Either way, enjoy!

Hello,

My name is Eric, you may remember me from such games as "6 Day Assassin" and "Time Out" [if anyone remembers Time Out then you get a cookie].

Anywho, I'm here with a question.

Sylpher and I made Insta-Game, http://sylpher.com/ig almost 3 years ago and we were excited.

Many conversations with various people later on why hardly anyone used it brought up the following reasons:

1. It was too limiting.

2. It was too open.

Not very helpful.

So now I ask the forums in general. Why after so many years did so few people use Insta Game?

Now I know no one asked for it and I can't expect people to just jump up and use something that they didn't ask for, and this isn't me going all "Boo hoo, why don't you play with my toys?!" I'm just curious.

Dave Gilbert made an excellent game mixing IG and RON together, MillsJRoss made 2 [?] games with it, Erica McLane made 1, there were a few hour games and maybe a few more scattered here and there [or am I wrong and there are tons out there?]

The reason IG was created was because people complain about not being able to make graphics easily and people always link them to RON, so I was hoping that IG would act as a secondary source for games that didn't have to take place in RON.

Is it because there was no starting game like there was RON [not that I personally wanted another RON]. Some people said to me that it was too hard to come up with ideas to fit the backgrounds and characters and I just can't buy that at all.

So, anyone wanna try helping me out? I just want to make it clear that I'm not trying to sound whiny or boohooy, I just want some feedback. It's just frustrating to think I'm doing something good for people and the majority of feedback I seem to get is people saying "Yea this is great for placeholder art or making test games..."

Love,
Eric

EDIT: Oh yes and I forgot to mention, IG has been downloaded a little around 5000 times this year...

What is a Photoshop Phriday?

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images.

Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, or any other programs can be used. Though Boyd will probably throw a fit if you don't...

See this link:
http://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop/

And for other examples, see here:
http://www.worth1000.com/

The two above websites should give a fair idea of what is involved.

Also, please make sure your image doesn't exceed the width of the screen.

-------------------------------------

Hey! My name is eric! Since I'm starting the new photoshop that must mean I schooled all y'all asses last week... That's pretty sweet. I bet you're totally jealous of my skills.

I hope we can still be friends and hang out on the weekends.

In the meantime how about this:

Since adventures games obviously aren't being made that much anymore, all our loved characters have been out of a job for years and in some cases decades... I wonder what they're doing to make money now-a-days...

Well, I hired a Private Eye to follow Manny Calavera around and it turns out he's posing as an anatomy model at a highschool for food money...

Poor guys...

Can you guys find any more?

hello, made these tiny sprites for a job interview and wondering which you prefer

the shoulders is what i'm talkin' 'bout

basically the difference is in the first one his shoulder/arm moves back 2 pixels and then to the middle and then forward 2 pixels, and in the second one it moves back one pixel, next frame it moves back again, next frame it moves forward and so on, so instead of clicking it flows, but i don't know if it's better or not to flow or to click...

Hello,

My name is Eric and I'll be hosting Mittens this year at my camp in Sacandaga.

Here's the deal. My father agreed to let you all stay at my camp for a week, there aren't enough rooms in the house for everyone to sleep inside so there will still be some tentification needed. There's a grocery store nearby, we have running water/a kitchen/a phone/a bathroom/a private beach/and the best part: An Atari.

The majority of people will more than likely make fun of me and say "This isn't a camp! This is a summer home!" But when I was a kid it was a camp with no television, no phone, and certainly no Atari.

Friday, July 23rd will be the day Mittens 2004: Electric Boogaloo starts. I won't be posting the address on the internet so if you're going either PM me or Email me. Last time I asked for people to PM me 2 did. So at the moment there are 8 people I know are going and only 2 of them have the address.

For a rough idea of where my camp is check for Broadalbin in New York state. It's upstate and near a Sacandaga Reservoir which my camp is on. My camp is about 15 minutes from Broadalbin.

18 and up because that is what my father says. Because the world is a dangerous place and my camp is full of demons and monsters he also asks you to sign a waiver saying you won't sue him if you're attacked by a wandering gelatinous cube while going for a swim at my camp.

Besides, if you can be defeated by a gelatinous cube you don't deserve to live anyway...

I don't care what you have to say about signing a waiver because what you say doesn't matter. If you want to come, sign it and give it to me, if you want to come but don't want to sign it then you can't come. It's simple and not a crazy thing to ask.

Any questions?

Any other questions?

General Discussion / The greatest movie ever.
Wed 24/12/2003 07:30:29
Hello, you may remember me from my other thread speaking of the greatest book ever...

Well I bring to you now the greatest movie ever...

http://www.skycaptainandtheworldoftomorrow.com/home.html

I just can't get over how amazing it is and I hope it's totally awesome to the Xtreme.

BUT WAIT! You say, this is untrue! Everyone knows the greatest movie ever is:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/lost_skeleton/

I know I know, it doesn't seem right that I can say these are both the best movies ever... But it's true.

I'm at a loss for words...

The annoying this is that I should get the balls to post my art on a forum ment to crit paintings like this instead of the AGS forums...

but while I wait for my balls here we go

no title, just a guy in a field. Jess asked me to draw her something and this is what came out

hello

working in 640x480 in ags i've found it VERY IMPOSSIBLE to place GUI buttons with any sort of precision or objects in rooms

i have to place the object and reimport the image over and over again until i can get it to line up because the scaling really messes with accurate placement

so basically what i'm asking is some better way of placing objects

at least allowing me to see my images at their actual size so i can place them perfectly. you have no idea how many hours i spent aligning my gui buttons so the mouse over image matches up with the pixels around it...

and all of this is encompassed by a big ol' please

eric

hey cj quick suggestion

do you think it would be possible:

when i create a gui and set it to unclickable i can't detect if the mouse is over a Gui Object with GetGUIObjectAt(mouse.x,mouse.y);

any way to make that possible?

eric

bum de bum...

maybe yakspit can give us the inside scoop

Guess who!

i must have drawn this when i was like 8 or something...

man.. crazy shit
#37
I suggest unto you

MoveViewport(x, y, speed, blocking)

doing what i have to do for my game is terrible annoying code wise, it gets done but takes AGES to get all the bugs out

moveviewport especially with a blocking command would be wonderful

heeeeyo

here i am again with another non game related bit of art that i was hoping i could get crit on

i drew this for jess and she left before i could colour it

i'm fine with the line drawing, i don't care about anatomical mistakes but if you want to point them out i'm always up for hearing you out.

http://www.sylpher.com/kafka/junk/lollypopc.jpg  there's the coloured image, what'd i'd really like is advice on colour, obviously i was going for a certain look with this but it's 5am and i don't know how well it came out.

if anyone wants to give it a try go ahead with the line drawing here:

http://www.sylpher.com/kafka/junk/lollypop.jpg

just don't make me cry by being better than me

eric

for many years i have been complaining about the state of movies today

back in the day every other movie was about aliens coming to earth and teleporting a bunch of dinosaurs to the wild west and then the cowboys have to best not only the dinosaurs [while befriending a few] but the aliens too!

now it's no surprise that these movies are the best thing in the world ever don't even question it...

but when is the last time another movie like this has come out?

...

exactly

well, thank goodness for this
