That and transformers isn't like some awesome story or highly revered bit of american entertainment. It's a terrible cartoon that spawned terrible comics and now lately even more terrible card collecting styled cartoons. If the movie is terrible than he's stayed quite true to the brand.
I'm trying my best not to flame you for such a biased and ill-informed remark. Just because you don't like transformers doesn't mean that it's a bad series. Next time, say why you don't like the series.

What is there to flame? Just about every cartoon from the 80's and early 90's is crap made to sell toys. Thundercats is a hideous cartoon, Silverhawks is even worse and Transformers is no better.

Are the toys awesome? Yes, Transformers toys are some of the best toys from my childhood. In my opinion that is where people's love of Transformers comes from. They remember the toys because there's not much to remember about them, same with the cartoon. What awesome storylines and intense action did the cartoon series have? Does anyone remember? Sure we can remember the movie but what about the series.

I think the only one I can remember is some decepticon made holograms of energon and a hologram of a base to trick the autobots into attacking, then when they attacked the hologram went away and decepticons were everywhere and then they all shot at each other and ran away. I'm guessing the autobots eventually tricked the decepticons to wrap up the story.

It doesn't matter anyway, every episode of the Transformers cartoon was made to sell toys. The Transformers series is not some holy artistic vision, it's an ad campaign. How can Michael Bay ruin an ad campaign? By making a good movie.

I don't know if you're planning on putting these into a game and what your polycount would be on this engine but if it is indeed for a game you're wasting a lot of polys.

If it's for a game, as in real time 3d:

The vents on the front are useless. A texture would do what those polys are doing just as fine. Especially coupled with a normal map. The same with the vents [?] on the back.

The chamfered edges are also wasteful for a game.

The small panels on the side are too small to really do anything for your model. They don't really affect the sillouhette of the model and all they really do is kind of catch a little bit of light that a texture can hint at just the same.

Also, I'd suggest not just cutting in squares to your geometry the way you are:

try and keep to quads as best you can. They light better and if you ever get into animation they allow for deformation.

The circles on the front of the ship also could just be floating in the geometry. They don't have to be a part of the front panel. It would just add unnecessary polys. The same with the metal around the windows. You could texture all that in because the slight lip you're getting from the metal isn't worth the amount of polys being used.

If it's not for a game:

Look into specular maps and normal or bump maps. The glass looks like painted metal. A specular map would allow you to make that glass shiny and add a dull sheen to the metal of the ship. Specular and environment/reflection maps can really bring the model from "eh" to "wow!" in my opinion. The glass on the cockpit does not reflect any of it's surroundings, that really stands out.

I'll try and post some examples of what I mean when I get home from work.

Things take are UNDER water usually tend to look "wet" when they get OUT of the water.

Or do they?... :-\

Very nice pic, btw :)

I don't think realism is something one should be shooting for when it comes to this art style.

may I suggest:

make her more wet maybe?

Maybe.

Phil Reed is before Napoleon Dynamite..

And I just want to say that my girlfriend did the illustrations for this book, hooray!

Police Quest would be a fan remake and No Action Jackson would be a comedy.

But you probably ment as if someone made PQ in AGS, I'd say Pleurburgh [the closest I can think to PQ] would be a mystery...

Well, you say you don't need crit but I think you do. I in no way mean offense, just when you say you want to sell these and that you don't need crit, I feel you really need to have someone tell you what is what. I'm just trying to help.

There's a lot that needs to be done to these to make them sellable, in my opinion.

first things first:

If we look at this wooden cup the first thing we see is the specular shine on the top of the inside lip. It's bright and broken up by the grain of the wood. Your images have grain in the texture but not in the shine. They read more as brass than wood.

Another older cup, one this you can see wear and tear of years of use. The lip of the cup has a different texture than the base. You can see dirt and debris collected in the base of the cup also.

This cup has a brass [or painted] rim that helps break up the monotony of the wood texture. Also you can see many scratches and dents. Look at how much character that bowl has. You can see the texture in the specular shine and it has a much more matte finish [not as shiny] which really helps.

This bown also has a lot of interesting things going on in it. Look at the knots in the wood, that's interesting. The small burnt black piece on the lip of the bowl on the left. Chips and scratches, it looks like someone has used this bowl.

This is just a sample of old wood, it's been treated with some sort of stain that has rubbed off over the years of people touching it and just general degredation. Also, look at the mottled texture and the huge crack down the chest. Wood will do this.

And here's a completely new bowl, just made fresh. Look at the wooden texture again, the rings from the wood, the beveled edges. Stay away from completely sharp right angles when you make 3d models. Add a chamfered lip to the edges of things to make them smooth. Like so:

This will give you a nice edge that will pick up a nice highlight. Chamfered edge is on the right.

The honey pot is your best one because it looks like there is more going on there besides just lathing a line to make a cup. Also, even though it looks like brass, it has the best texture on it.

Did you paint your own textures or is it something out of poser or Wings that is default wood? If so than I suggest you learn how to UV unwrap if you can't already and then learn how to texture. There are tons of texturing tutorials on the net and they are pretty good.

I would suggest that you pick an object that you have around the house. Find an old beat up cup and try and model and texture that as best you can. Learn about specular maps and normal or bump maps. As Mordalles said, these are all very primitive shapes that could be made in maybe a half hour. Don't try and sell your first creations. Even if you've been working for years with Wings and these are not your first creations, they look it.

If you take nothing away from this post at least learn how to UV and texture your own models and at the very least learn about bump maps or normal maps.

There are a few 3d people around these parts who can help so just keep this thread alive and maybe start a new cup and I'll try and help as you go.

Before I comment I want to make something clear, you're going to sell these, right? As in you made a model pack and now want to sell it for other people to use.

I hate to bring this up but half the football team was lucky with your wife.

ZING!

Also, I broke up with a girl many moons ago, the only girl I've broken up with and she was my first girlfriend. It was terrible and horrible and all that and she was very mad and hated me for a while but now it appears that none of that matters anymore.

How did this happen? She stopped talking to me, hanging out with me, emailing me, IMing me, calling me. And I did the same. It took probably... 2 years. She IMs me now from time to time but doesn't call me on the phone or ever express an interest to hang out. And that's how it has to be because that is how it is. She has a new life and my part in it is small.

"I was pretty mad after that and felt she owed me an apology for the way she'd treated me all day.Ã,  Now, I don't care if I never get an apology…I'd just like to hear from her that she still values me.Ã,  She wouldn't even have to articulate it…just a phone call to rant about a bad day would be enough.Ã,  Alas, two weeks have gone by and this is the longest we've ever gone without communicating."

No offense but this whole thing sounds pretty selfish. Yes she blew up at you but she probably has a lot going through her mind and she's trying to come to terms with the break up and then all of the sudden here you are feeling jealous over something you caused. I'd freak out too. So now you want her to call and talk to you after 2 weeks? You're going to be waiting a lot more than that so really, just deal with it. You created the situation and she's trying to deal with it when she had no say in the matter in the first place, the least you can do now is leave her alone so she can figure out what happened and what to do next.

Why not just combine help requests into the GiP forum if you're going to have that many rules?

Also, has the question "does this even work?" been answered yet? You can have the most perfect system for getting people to ask for help but if no one is offering help [I'm seeing what, 4 success stories out of 13 pages for the help thread?] than it still won't work.

You post explicit images on the forums, you get deleted. I have no reason to believe you are a real person, just a character someone invented.

Whatever, have fun just don't break the forum rules, thank you.
