greetings ptoing, long time fan of your work, however I'd hate to see your first post  leave a parenthesis open like that which would encapsulate every one of your posts hereafter into a sort of footnote realm.

may I suggest Reality on the Norm since there are a LOT of games that would fall under that category?

You could also make them much smaller...

In Automation the icon bar I made is very tiny, the buttons are just blue button images with the cursor images placed on top of them so each one is like 20 x 20 pixels. You could put the 4 buttons on either side of the larger inventory window.

However for me I like using the mousewheel to cycle through cursors but last time I tried it [which was many moons ago] AGS didn't differentiate between scrolling up on the mouse wheel and scrolling down... Or maybe it did and I'm silly stupid

A link for people to find them.

While there are flaws in both games, I'm mostly just happy that people are using the source engine for more than multiplayer first person shooters.

Granted they were made for school projects but hopefully it inspires people!

I don't want to be the noob who starts a h & t thread, i just had to figure it out for myself!

If you read the first post in this thread I created a hints and tips thread specifically for people to ask questions in so there wouldn't be lots of threads started for 1 game, people asked for help in it and you can post in that thread any time you want. I'd love it if more people started individual hints and tips threads but it seems like that's just a pipedream of mine!

Thank you for playing!

Tell her it's Doctor Cockenstein!

"Nothing worse than an angry German Chef with a big fuck-off knife"

Also, being Australian I'm sure you can tell him a little something about what a knife is...

I would suggest emailing CJ directly, his forum name is Pumaman.

Just squeeze her hands a lot, that'll do it!

I'm sure little things have worked out, finding someone to proof read or provide some voices... But not enough to warrant a sticky or an entire page devoted to it...

If you look at other game design forums they have help wanted threads and, just like ours, it's full of requests and game ideas and it never seems that any of those games get done.

While the sticky could just be done away with it did help in the matter scotch said, getting people to not clutter up the entire forum with help requests, just one thread.

"Every advertiser must update their adds regularly, or they will disappear." would be a neat idea and help end clutter [the page sends you an email or a forum PM and tells you to update or perish] but if the system doesn't work because people don't really want to help anyway...

Why you're welcome. Thanks to all the people that voted for it.

I never really played Duke-Nukem so the robot is just a tube-bot from by brain.

As for what I can do in more time, well there's always Time Out, which really should have only taken a year but is going on 4 now... And Spellbound is my MAGS game that I made in a month though sadly it has no ending...

Thank you for playing!

First thing that pops out to me is, where is the light source?

hopefully you won't mind a paint over, I guessed not since you posted the line art

more could probably have been done to seperate the woman from the background but it's almost 1 am...

personally that is what I'd do. I'm interested in knowing who you're trying to emulate and if they work in flat colours like your first image.Ã,  There's nothing wrong with not adding shadows like I did but you really have to pick shades of grey that really stand out from each other. Dark colours of course push into the background and light into the foreground and on your image the brightest most eye drawing parts are her shoulder bits and watch.

My image uses 4 shades. I threw down a base layer which is the dark grey that is in the majority of the wood and hair, then I worked out of that with a lighter shade, to get that lighter shade I just drew with the skin shade onto the grey base with a 60 percent opacity, selected that colour and used it to paint with full strength. I had to mess with brightness/contrast a little towards the end but other than that it wasn't so bad. I would probably throw a nice shadow from her across the wooden background to make the background a little more intersting light wise.

I've started using screentones lately just for fun, if you want I can show you some stuff I do with them, I don't go as deep as Helm* so it might be more accessible to you, I dunno.

Eric

according to this the US has a pretty bad infant mortality rate, also according to Pat Robertson the anti-christ is living in the US and is a jew. So if the anti-christ was born the other day, there is a chance it will die in a few weeks to a month.

THE ANTI-CHRIST IS HERE AND HE NEEDS CHANGING!

That sounds logic an all, but adventure games from that golden age didn't take themselves very seriously. Many games still don't.
Strange that two cartoonist, no less, think so logically and common to dismiss a puzzle based on it's randomness. A gorilla in a pink dinosaur suit blocking the way is random, but funny. What about all those puzzles that are taking precedence over the obstacle, but are funny, smart or easy? They do have a place in adventure games.

Well, I can't speak for eric but me being a cartoonist means nothing in this situation. I used to like all the silly puzzles in adventure games "Sure, I'll just knock this speaker over and of course the bass with unstick the vomit on the ceiling, which I'm sure is there for a very good reason..." "Use Max on the circuit breakers? Seems like a reasonable thing to do!" "Any puzzle ever in a discworld game? Brilliant!" but I also used to like Ren and Stimpy until I realized that it's just a bunch of random stuff thrown together.

Much like DoTT's art style, one can take a concept of a room and twist it out of proportion and mess with the angles and make it look WACKY WA-HEY! but it's still a room and it has rules that it bends but does not break. Apply this to puzzles. Bend the rules of your world, don't break them.

The majority of ZANY WACKY puzzles in adventure games are just "This is funny, put it in" it seems. DoTT has some intersting puzzles like changing the past so the statue has it's other arm up so Nurse Edna can't grab onto it but I don't remember how you decide to do that if you even do.. Getting the vomit off the ceiling just happens when you're playing around using everything. I never made the logical leap "This will shake the house and knock the vomit off the ceiling..." I was looking for something ANYTHING to scrape it off with.

I guess the first question your beta testers should ask is "Did I figure that solution out or did I accidentally solve it?" but more eloquent like what Ali wrote

the puzzle has taken precedence over the obstacle.

Gather 'round children! Behold the downfall of adventure game puzzles.

If you are writing a puzzle for an adventure game, ask yourself the question, "Is the puzzle taking precedence over the obstacle?" and if the answer is yes, rework it.
