General Discussion / Re: Wii

Also, paraphrasing a friend who works in the gaming industry and has for years:

Merchant Of Death:

You have no idea how popular the gameboy is. People are still buying Gameboy Colour games and the GBA is amazingly profitable. The DS makes up something like 40% of Ninetendo's revenue.

Also, according to him Nintendo has been profiting off of the Gamecube, correct me if I'm wrong but Sony and Microsoft generally lose money on every console they sell for a few years.

Nevermind the whole "blah blah nintendo is for kids" arguement that makes no sense and falls flat on it's face every time.

As far as the Wii, I believe the majority of people will continue calling it the Revolution until they own it. It is also the only console I'm interested in. Then again I just recently bought a PS2 so I could play Ico and Shadow of the Colossus so it's not like I'm a console guy anyway.

But how can one make a mistake if one has no choice in the matter?

Can you explain what it is? I can make some guesses what it is but I'd rather hear it from you.

What can this offer the user over say, notepad?

Then why did people cry when the pope died? The vast majority of people cry when someone dies. I guess there are more athiests in this world than originally thought.

It's not racist. Mexicans aren't people. Like Jews.

If I'm making a game and the character will walk through a scene and be in that scene for 2 minutes, I am not going to put 10 hours of work into it. This, in my opinion, is common sense.

But this is not the place for this discussion, anyway.

I think you need to darken the outline to the desk, it kinda of gets lost in the browns of the scene.

Quick question. How long are you in this room for?

If the answer is "a few minutes." then just move on to another background. The only reason I ask is because it looks like Dr. Jones' classroom or something and I'm just imagining that the majority of the game doesn't take place in this background.

But even if this background is used a lot, it's good to keep in mind background use when it comes to effort put into an image and redoing one.

R Kelly is a mad genious.

This might be a little old but I didn't know about it at all because I have no TV. But watch it, this link is to the first 5, you can see the rest on youtube...

There are 12 at the moment from a total of 35.

It's just... Something everyone should experience.

Any spoof you may have seen on South Park or whatever making fun of this, don't even bother, there is no way one can spoof something this amazing and come close to being as good.

Yes but what the reviews I have read have stated is:

The graphics are gorgeous, the story is great, the animations are iffy and the game play is uninspired and watered down.

If a review focuses on gameplay [like you said IGN did too much of] and explains to me that the gameplay is nothing new and boring, that is what I want to know. I don't want them to focus on the great story or the characters. I want to know if I'll have fun playing the game, not be interested in the cutscenes. This is a game, not a book or movie.

These are the same laws of thermodynamics that could be totally proved wrong one day, right?

It's called self-deprecation when one insults themselves!

As far as signage is concerned, you could just make each sign small enough or at such an extreme angle to the player that they can't read what it says and it just shows up as symbols that resemble writing. When you look at them have the player say "I can't read the language!" Or something.

Then you could just write out phonetically what german sounds like and not use actual german for conversations. Maybe?

I'd be happy to help anyone out with this setup.

Because then you can continue putting off actual work on your game but still say you're working on it!
