Secondly, would cel shading be much more difficult to pull of than your standard 3D shading?

I'm going to say yes it would. The majority of engines out there don't just have a button to press that turns on cell shading.

Another engine you might want to check out is the Torque engine which can be pretty if you put the time into it, but it has a big group of people working on it that are always up to help you if you're stuck. It costs money but it's quite cheap, especially if you don't plan on releasing freeware.

You're wrong in the fact that the "I'm right, you're wrong" viewpoint is a universally human concept. ba dum?
#1123
You're wrong. No it isn't.

I remember when they sprung Ether on us... I was like "WHAT?! I'll never remember all of this!"

What other ideas do you want the evolutionary scientists to be open too? And is there no evolutionary scientist that is open to these ideas?

I didn't say creationists have to modify their beliefs, that's not really their thing with a very good reason. If the Bible don't say it, it didn't happen! [sorta]

So then do you agree that your previous discussion about thermodynamics and life not being created from non-life is something that could change at any moment? Forgive me if you've already stated that.

And speaking about scientists is really vague. Everyone has their own view of what scientists are, yes they are just humans but it's not like every scientist meets and says "Ok, here's what we believe!" There is a constant push and pull and a constant poking and prodding of what works and what doesn't work and why does it and why doesn't it.

Besides, how much of the scientific community is devoted to proving god or gods don't exist? Not much at all I wager. They're poking at science and observing and documenting and learning, not disproving god every chance they get. Even if for some reason there was a divine being that created everything, unless there was a direct line to that being for everyone to ask questions, people would still want to know how it all works. But anyway...

The best thing about scientific thinking is that the moment proof of a divine being is established, the scientific community will adapt that into what they know now and discard what goes against it... The same can not be said for the other side of this debate.

The reason I mention this is because when people bring up moments when a scientist or a once common held belief among the scientific community was proven wrong, they think it leads to some sort of conclusion that the entire thing is a big crock.

Adventure game puzzles are some of the hardest to design, no duh. Shooter games are easy and puzzle games are tricky but once you figure out that you should work backwards. Adventure game puzzles are either excellent or shit.

My preference I think is a merging of both your models. Force me through a story and change my location a lot please! But give me a few rooms to play in in each location. Maybe [conceptually] a game should look like this:

At the beginning of the game there aren't too many places to explore as I learn the story and learn how the game works, then as I'm moved through the story, more locations open up until I have a lot of options open to me as in people, inventory and locations, at this point I should be well on my journey and fully engrossed in the story, then the ending begins and focus is given to the player so you start stripping away at locations [not necessarily game play options] and presenting them with a funnel or a clear path in the story to the ending.

Or please please mix it up and give me a game like this:

I don't know if these diagrams mean anything to anyone else but me, but writing this has at least helped me solidify thoughts I've had.

I just went to see the Dresden Dolls in concert and the 2 opening acts were pretty cool.

Reverend Glasseye was the first http://www.reverendglasseye.com/ and they were neat.

But then Golem came on http://www.golemrocks.com/ and they pretty much musically made love to me and left a twenty on the dresser.

Peelander-Z and Gelatine

http://www.peelander-z.com/

http://www.gelatine5.com/

saw them both in concert on the same night and while Peelander-Z may not be impressive when you're just listening to an MP3 they are quite awesome live. They had about 10 people from the audience up on stage during the first song and they all were given pots and pans to bang and then they had more than that on stage during the last song and gave their instruments and parts of their costumes out to other people so they could go human bowling in the audience...

Gelatine was just awesome.

A few years ago I was at MoCCA [a big indie comics convention] and I met Ryan North from Qwantz.com, I gave him some of my comics and he emailed me later thanking me and telling me that he's played 6 Day Assassin well before meeting me. It was pretty awesome!

Since I agree with Helm, could you please enlighten me to what B.S. he wrote. Or would you rather dismiss his entire post with a "pithy" one sentence post?
#1134

Oh but look at him Helm! Here maybe this will help, look how scrotal they appear! I bet that makes them better for you!

Also holy shit Helm, I'm not saying we disagree a lot of the time I'm just saying that:

"Sex is a very painful, even violent process for a lot of animals and they still feel the primordial biochemical urge to mate"

I couldn't be pleased with this sentence more.

Heyndail,

Nice painting!

I think the things that I'd change is the sky background. There is a lot of big texture in there that it makes it seem like it's really close to the scene. Like it's a blue painted wall that a light is hitting.

Also there aren't that many details to suggest scale. This and the blue background make me think that I'm looking at a miniature city sitting on a table top.

Grass poking up from around buildings, texture in the dirt, wood planks leaning on buildings, a wagon wheel. Something for me to look at and judge the size of these buildings better. I know what a building is and how big one is and I can judge it next to the well but people need to live in this area and it looks like there are quite a few people that would be here [especially if the well is there] show me the daily wear and tear and junk that accumulates.

It doesn't really have to be much, just here and there.

Also, use atmosphere colour to create depth in the trees. Again, everything seems so close together and that there is nothing beyond those trees. Mountains are the quick easy fix for creating depth in a scene like this but if you just let the trees in the distance lose some detail and fade out into the background it would help.

This is all my opinion and I probably wrote too much because I'm bored at work but oh well!

just don't come in like you are king of the world. it ALWAYS backfires.

Unless you are indeed the king of the world, then... Welcome my King!

IMDB says it started in 2000 but anyway...

Since I live in the US I get to see all the wonderful shows first before they get exported, and what a treat THAT is!

The only thing I enjoy in american tv is Adult Swim [well enjoyed, I haven't watched it in a while], Avatar, Daily Show and various discovery channel shows...

TV just doesn't do it for me anymore.
