I think I remember The Draft Drifter Who Dashed Doctor Dunno being pretty hilarious. I have few games saved in my IMPORTANT folder that travels from computer to computer as they get upgraded and this game is still in the folder since 2005 so... That's something!

I listened to everyone of these a few years ago when I was working late at work. My favorite being his explanation of the true events of Roswell, sadly I had never heard the truth before and it just made me giddy!

Progz, he wrote Why Adventure Games Suck back in 1989 well before he was a has-been or disenchanted.

Also, I can agree with blueskirt that the puzzles in MI and on are better than Maniac Mansion by a long shot. If not better than at least the narrative and gameplay was nicer to the player to try to keep you moving on. I can't agree that MM was logical in much of it's puzzle design.

I also need to learn how to write so I can finish this thing on adventure games and puzzle design that I've been working on in my head for a while. Thanks for the articles!

The next person THE VERY NEXT PERSON who puts down another person's beliefs is going in a time out!

Now, put your play blocks away and after nap time we'll have juice and animal crackers.

Ok(Sadly) By the way just out of curiosity, are any of the mittens attenders christian?

I'm locking this thread because we already have a mittens thread.

13 is quite young to be traveling all over the globe and hanging out with people twice your age. Stick around, play some games, make some games... Before you know it you'll be able to hang out with the likes of CJ and... Well he's really the only one worth hanging out with.

I'd make a OROW

I'm surprised I'm the first one to say that!

But in actuality I have no idea. Quit my job of course. I love my job but it's not THAT important! Throw a party? I've never done that before, would people even come? Bah, too complicated! I guess I'll just cross that bridge when I come to it! I hope the bridge doesn't take a week to cross.

This ship has been sailing aimlessly for years... We've needed a good captain for a long time now.

I guess you'll do.

if I want to watch a movie I'll go to Blockbuster.

Boo, that's such a negative thing to say. Don't you think it's really "If you want to play an adventure game with more puzzles you'll play a different game."?

also I don't think the place that hosts that image allows hotlinking, stu

I'd suggest taking another pass through the story and looking for places to add in some logical things for a detective to do that could be seen as puzzles, if there is a place for them.

If not puzzles than interaction. I do not suggest the Pleurburgh style of interaction where you have to use the keys on your car every time you want to go some place, or take your shoes off before going in the house... But simple things to immerse me into the game would be appreciated.

I feel most beta testers just want to play a game before it's released.

In order to get the most out of your beta tester they have to actively try and break the game. That takes a lot of imagination but AGS is pretty solid as far as collision and things like that go so you can supply your testers with specific places that the game might not be solid, basically anything you coded.

They should basically be clicking on everything constantly until it breaks. Using items on things, trying to pick up things multiple times, talking to characters out of sequence, things like that. Beat the game once and then beat it again doing things differently, beat it by not talking to any characters unless you have to...etc anything that breaks the typical way of playing the game.

It may seem like a lot to ask a tester to play your game 10 times but if they don't want to test and just want an early peek at the game, they shouldn't have volunteered!

If there's anything we can conclude from this discussion it must be this: Every non-alien, non-desert island adventure game should have at least one street corner with a dollar store. It would make things so much easier for us players.

Ok, but to get a dollar, you have to deliver this letter to the baker across town, then take the cake he gives you to the flower store.  The girl there will give you a bouquet, which you can use to make the museum security guard sneeze so that you can steal the painting, which I'll buy for a dollar.  Then you can use the dollar to buy a screwdriver.

See, getting all your inventory items from a dollar store makes sense! That way, when they break after their first use it's because you got it from a dollar store!

HERE'S THE DEAL!

I am very interested in Mittens, it is fun and I love it!

I am very interested in the James Randi Educational Foundation! http://www.randi.org/site/

I do believe the mansion and the JREF are very close to each other. Jess and I want to go pretty badly. If Nacho is coming I'm sure he'd want to go also. Is anyone else interested?

*We are there right now and we are fucking there... on all the beds, the counter tops and the driveways. Most statues have also been used as sex objects.
