The first dude on the show was right, why can't she be right?!

Mr. Colossal:

Spoiler
What you describe isn't a walking dead because you cannot save beyond the entrance to the whack-a-rat game, and you can actually go back all the way to the elevator entrance (and to any room in the maze aside from the room with the rats).  I did this purposefully so you would not get stuck, so I don't really see this as unfair.  As for a map, here's a tip:  Switch the difficulty to easy and open the drawer where you found the pipe patches ^_^.  Also, when you have fixed all the pipe patches the inventory item disappears, so you will have no leftovers!  I made him walk slow because he's wading through very viscous poo and doesn't want to fall over into it (he actually makes the comment when he gets in), and I actually sped up his movement between beta and release because Grundislav made the same comment, though he wasn't bothered after I increased the speed.  Fun Fact:  He's actually only moving 1 unit slower than his normal walk animation (originally it was 2).

Sure it's not a walking dead but it is a hopeless situation. The only way for me to know that I had to fix all the pipes before exploring the maze is to die. That's unfair in my opinion. I am being punished for exploring the maze in the wrong order and since it's a maze there is no obvious order to go in.

I understand that he's only walking 1 unit slower than his normal walk speed but I think his normal walk speed is too slow anyway. Like I said, I spent more time just slowly walking through hallways than I did solving puzzles, that wasn't fun for me so I quit.

I would like to finish this game but I died very unfairly and wanted to make a suggestion.

Spoiler
I suggest you revisit the maze part of the game. I got to the rats and beat them on my first try but still lost because I only repaired one pipe. The maze is a maze and I didn't see an obvious map anywhere to show me where to go so I was walking aimlessly and just happened upon the rats, as soon as that cutscene kicks in it's walking dead if you haven't fixed all the pipes.

I found that the lizard walked slow in the first place but the fact that he walks slower in the maze also put me off, personally. When I reloaded the game I would go down a tunnel, find it a dead end and just reload to my previous point because I didn't want to walk all the way back.

Also, did anyone tell me how many pipes to fix? I don't know how many to look for before I can walk into the whack-a-rat room. I guess I should just walk through every room down here?

Also also, I just had to give up, I can't keep walking around down in the maze. He moves so slow and I don't want to explore anymore wondering if I'll hit a dead end and have to walk back. I had to stop reloading because I was losing my place. I spent more time in the maze walking than I did on the game play. Speed up his walk is my suggestion.

Mansion also.

We should remake The Haunting in that place.

If you look closely he definitely has quite substantial stumps underneth his t-shirt and was using them to lift his body up.  OK they're not full blown arms but they were enough to get the leverage he needed... and notice he spends half the 'getting up' sequence with his back to the crowd (and camera).

FAKE! PHOTOSHOPPED!

I guess I don't see why people take this so seriously but people do so I will try.

"and the only way sprite jam could go back to "normal" would be for someone into pixel art to make hi res sprites better than the hi res people."

Maybe a problem is winners don't have much imagination when it comes to setting up sprite jams? There is nothing stopping someone who just won a "Make a sprite for the game-n-watch!" jam from starting another that challenges people to make a sprite for a high res 1024x game.

I don't know, I guess I don't care enough about the competitions to get worked up about it. I don't like most of the rules in the MAGS competition but all I can do is either enter and hope to win to make my own rules or wait for the rules to change.

loominous:

You can participate in your own sprite jams if you want. Also you can make sprites with clay that fit sprite jam rules, or you can just make a sprite following the majority of the rules and disregarding the others. No one is going to ban you for having fun and making something awesome. Maybe I'm the only mod that feels that way... Maybe next Mittens I'll be shown the 300 page rule book that CJ wrote up detailing the strict ways to run the comp forum.

The sprite jam for me, when I started it on IRC, was not about winning, we just had a "winner" so that we could vary up who chooses what to draw next. If the sprite jam is about winning for people then I bow out of the conversation because I am not in that mindset.

Also, I'm not against changing the sprite jam if the majority of people want it. Just as long as people have fun and make cool art and hopefully learn something.

Forgive me, I have not read all the posts on this topic but the way I've always seen it is the sprite jam is there for people to have fun and learn by doing.

I also see it that if someone wins a sprite jam they get to set the rules... If they want people to develop a concept first and then show the final sprite, that is their prize for winning the last comp. If they want to make it that you have to make a sprite for an isometric Diablo clone, good for them! If people don't like these rules, they don't enter.

A winner ran a comp that involved concept art, someone argued with him about the rules. If someone doesn't like the rules, they can just not enter and boycott that week. If someone else doesn't like that only low res rules are being made, win the competition and change the rules. Does that mean possibly doing low res art to win the comp the first time through? Sure, but that's the way it's set up.

I think this is very simple?

You're suspicious?! I'm so suspicious that I don't trust that Snopes is one of your top bookmarks!

I think what I'm looking forward to the most with Obama being the EXACT SAME PERSON as George Bush, as most of us here agree... Is continued destruction of the US! I mean Bush is leaving office with a 22% approval rating! I'm sure Obama can do better than that and get into the single digits, YES WE CAN!

When I would listen to Obama and listen to his ideas all I could think is "This man sounds JUST like George Bush!" Which is why I voted for Obama because I loved George Bush so much! [I actually drew a winky face next to Obama/Biden on my ballot because everyone knew I was ACTUALLY voting for Bush]

People would say to vote for McCain if you wanted more George Bush but no sir! We see through all of that! It was Obama that was just like Bush all along! I am so glad we got him in office because it would have been disastrous to get someone different!

Of course the only true politician that ever lived was Ron Paul [GOOGLE RON PAUL! WOO!] and he was the only true politician that was not actually a politician but someone that could actually change this country even though he is a politician like Obama... WAKE UP SHEEPLE!

In a parallel universe I am quite excited to see what will become of the next president and look forward to either some slightly happier times or, if he is worse than the previous president, a swift ejection from office!

The game was saved but I guess we didn't want to turn the computer off only to turn it on again in 20 minutes when he was done with his shower. Lazy...

On the other hand, I got to read every pamphlet in the inventory like 12 times!

I remember playing Monkey Island with my brother and dinner was ready so we went downstairs to eat and left the game just sitting there. When we came back there was an error, something about a Parity Check failing or whatever... We had to restart the computer and do this whole section over again.

Some days later we were still playing Monkey Island and my brother wanted to take a shower but didn't want to turn off the game so he had me sit there and move the mouse around and look at inventory items... I was FORBIDDEN to play the game, just look at things and DON'T walk around!

This thread should be moved to popular threads...

Nacho, just cut it out. Forgive these AGSers for having fun and move on.

I was going to PM you on your birthday but then I thought "I haven't seen him much, he might not have email notification on for PMs"...

General Discussion / You and your past lives.

Hey dudes!

So I was watching a mythbusters marathon over the holidays and I was remembering an interview I heard with Adam Savage where he said they shoot like 20 hours of footage for each show. That's almost a day of shooting, probably two 10 hour days [just guessing]. 10 hours is a good chunk of the day and then the editors distill it down to an hour show. So I thought, "I wonder if the mythbusters can recall days better if they watch an episode?"

The idea being that because 2 days were filmed and then edited that they could be triggered to remember more about their lives than someone who didn't have a recorded history of it [albeit edited].

So then I thought that I took 400 pictures at Mittens France, do I remember more about Mittens France than I do Mittens Canada and even less about Mittens America and even less about the entirety of college?

So then I think, all these digital cameras hanging around, it's easier to take pictures than it has ever been for everyone. And then I thought all this internet hanging around... There are tons of journals and blogs and myspaces and twitters just documenting people's days. Can they go back and remember their life better? Do people have more hindsight?!

And then I remembered this forum, if you go back to the last page of Gen Gen it goes back to 2004, that was a long time ago! The majority of us still around have probably changed quite a bit from then!

There is all this past us hanging around on the internet, a breadcrumb trail of the path we took to get from one version of us to the current version. I mean in the past 4 years I have changed quite a bit. I moved in with my girlfriend, I did some freelance, I now have a salary job making games, I've made one AGS game [....shut up...], I've changed my hair style three times, changed apartments twice, I've changed drawing styles twice and I've changed my underwear... Gosh, at LEAST 4 times...

But there I am, still hanging out on the internet. This forum to be exact. I used to have an online diary but I deleted it after remembering it and then reading it years later. There was more of me spread out on the SCRAMM forums but that is all gone now, AGS ezBoard is also gone for the most part, a good chunk of Gen Gen threads on this forum are gone also... I have a livejournal now but that's for posting art.

So this forum holds the majority of breadcrumbs on the path that I happened to take to arrive at 'me' now. It's very interesting [to me at least].

Has anyone else gone back and summarized their years here? It's a little scary sometimes and a little weird. Seeing posts you've completely forgotten about and reading them as if someone else wrote them [which basically they did!] and it's a little embarrassing, I would sometimes say to myself while time traveling into the archives "Why do I care so much about this?" or "No Eric, that is not what she said, you read it incorrectly and are also wrong!" or "Holy shit I don't remember having this much fun with [random AGSer who is now gone]!"

Or does anyone use Twitter, or make video logs [Vlogs, as they call them] or use these other social networking sites to document days? I feel that this new way of recording your life is specific to this age. We have the technology to do it and I wonder what consequences it will bring, if any.

So in conclusion: Hi, my name is Eric Feurstein. I am probably not who you remember me to be.

Oh by the way, Mills, those new shades you got as a present for the holidays are pretty and all but can you leave them open when you get out of a shower... Kinda putting a damper on my infatuation...
#177
An infatuation is something that is fleeting, transient. Real love is usually defined by humans to mean something that doesn't go away.

As I understand it

Air wouldn't hold heat as well as something solid like rock. So the rock gives the heat off at night and then absorbs it in the day while the heat is just dissipating in the air and not being absorbed, I don't know.

I love all the I don't knows!

Ok, I would like to know why does the ground cool first in the evening before the air does and respectively, why does the ground warm first in the morning, then the air.

without doing any research into the matter I would guess that the ground retains the heat of the day and lets it off into the air at night which keeps the air warm but the ground gets cooler as it releases it's heat?

Maybe? I dunno?

I demand you fix this immediately.

I'm sure it comes as no surprise to find that I made this very shortly after making the first image.
