and so I edit it because it doesn't matter!

Three golden rules:
1. Is your post interesting, helpful or funny? If not, don't post it.
2. Post in a mature manner. Remember, the minimum age here is 16 - if you're unable to act that age, don't post.
3. If you're not a moderator, don't pretend to be one. If a thread needs to be moved or locked, the moderators will deal with it.

When technology gets better and games require that tech, that is perfectly normal...

If you want to play certain newer games you have to upgrade, nothing wrong with that. There are still tons of games out there for you to play without upgrading so... It's your choice really.

As for console hate, it's actually kind of sad...  No offense I guess but you make little sense. It is easier, on a console, to invite friends over and sit down and play a game, plug more gamepads in and bam, you're playing. People keep TVs usually in the living room and computers in smaller rooms. Getting 4 people to huddle around my computer isn't as easy as everyone getting a spot on the couch [and my computer is in the biggest room of the house], plus I have no idea how I'd even go about getting 4 people to play at once on my PC. If I want to go to a friend's house and play games with him but he doesn't have a computer I'm not going to pack my computer up and drag it over when I can throw a console in a backpack and walk over there.

My PC cost 2000 dollars, find me a console that "costs about as much as" that.

Do you own a DVD player? Do you own a DVD rom on your computer? If so why? Since you can just watch DVDs on your computer! Is it stupid to own a DVD player too? I mean you can't check email on it, which is something we really should be using as a standard for purchasing products...

Do you own a cd player? Why since your computer plays CDs? Well computers are hard to drag around so get a laptop, why be stupid? Why get a large cumbersome tower when you can have a sleek laptop that allows you to play games, movies, music, check your email and do your homework!

"Well, that's unprogressive (not good for human race advancement) movement which justifies my negativity a bit?"

No, sorry, that's totally awkward, I think increased world poverty is worse for human race advancement than plug and play consoles. I'm also assuming you use windows, isn't it not good for brain developement to use something so no-brainer as windows when DOS was perfectly fine and harder? Which apparently is what you see as better.

"That's classic, good console gaming. Without 3D graphics and other things that ruin the atmosphere."

Yes, the great atmosphere of... Astyanax was perfect on the NES...

As for what annoys me about games is well... The gamers for one are quite annoying as you can tell by what I wrote above... Especially after working on Plan of Attack, people will just say the most inane stupid shit because they are anonymous and think they know everything.

And most of all I find that in computer games when someone adds even the slightest bit of trite story that everyone has heard or read or seen a thousand times, it is praised.

Beyond Good and Evil had a crap story, what was good about it was the characters. Half Life 1 and 2 also had a pretty basic story, it was the gameplay that was good. Doom 3... Um... Anyway.

This forum is for posting links to completed games, why not release it now since it's done?

Completed Game Announcements / Re: CAVERNS

it was a one room one week game so that's why it wasn't really big.

Farlander, keep him nude if you want him nude, obviously you know that already.

I like how no one freaked out over Helm's OROW game. It's not even a real penis, it's a few pixels.

As for the animation, try bobbing his hands up and down a few pixels when he walks. It would add some life and the overlap would help.

I can't believe you can joke about Pacman Fever like that Nipper...

You don't know what kind of Pacmania that caused...

I wish you'd be a little more sensitive...

That's not really a line tool, that's a vector path tool.

Just use a hard brush and click once, hold shift and then move the mouse where you want the line to end and click again

if you hold shift and keep clicking it will keep drawing from the end of one line to the next.

Can you imagine the energy that kind of fanbase would give to developers making interesting, fun games, rather than meldromatic wanna-be anime cutscene fests?

Can you imagine what your enthusiasm to harm would be like if you turned it towards developers who need helpful crit?

Since this project is, as it seems, dead, what's the point of any of this?

Why not go find some people making a game that you think are doing a good job and offer them helpful crit and stop making huge assumptions on a game that you practically know nothing about.

Also, you claim that the KQ team was draining resources from other developers but... This is just a wildly awkward opinion that makes no sense... It's like saying when Ghormak helped Helm on Gladiator Quest he was draining the Ghormak from the community who could be doing something else... He chose to work with Helm just like these people chose to work on KQIX... And as far as eroding the fanbase... Turns out I can be the fan of many games at once! I don't just have to post on one forum or support one team. It's a little quirk I have.

Also, you claim

"But the hypocrisy I noted earlier, of indie gamers bitching about how all game publishers care about is glitz and then turning around and slobbering over games like this, gets me agitated."

I look forward to your crusade against good looking AGS games. Would you like to start with Apprentice? You'll notice many people posting how much they love the art and how pretty the graphics are when they hadn't even played the game yet.

"It bothers me that well-written, well-designed games that don't have sexy graphics and don't bootstrap themselves to famous IP get entirely overlooked, or at least relatively ignored"

Can you name a few?

Also, from that last comment... This is a shot in the dark but you wouldn't happen to be a member of The Hidden team would you?

Either way, if you want to crit the team in this way why not email them? You'll get a better response than putting your comments on some random site.

Just to defend my sprite:

If you read Loomis' books he says that the best way to draw the figure is to draw one side and then mirror it, because perfect symmetry is the only way to represent nature. Since nature is made up of straight lines and symmetrical objects and any randomness has been evolved out of nature, I must say that my sprite is clearly perfect.

While Helm's sprite may have more colours I must say that the fact that it isn't perfectly symmetrical just comes off as completely amateur and well.. Sorry helm but you shouldn't use Poser and Bryce for your pixel art.

However, about the game, you've been working on this for a while haven't you Farl? I remember you showed me this background a while ago, along with a sweet animation. Good luck and I would suggest at least redrawing the standing still facing out frame because he is rather wooden, but... That's what you get for free! If someone would pay me for my tutorials they'd be much better!

check for it at the library or something, I looked for the DVD for myself and it's out of print as far as I know so I could only find it for 60 dollars...

I love the movie but... Not that much.

hehe cute, maybe I'll post something about my game soon then...

While the only movies I have seen Mickey Rourke in that I really remember are Buffalo 66 and Barfly I just wanted to pop in and say that Barfly is I'm sure his best performance ever...

He plays Henry Chinaski, Charles Bukowski's alter ego in a movie written by Charles Bukowski so the character is actually a character and amazing..

Just sayin' if you're a fan of Mickey now, check it out, I personally love the movie so hard.

Eric

ps holy crap I just realized I also saw him in Bullet, what a shitty movie...

Woot, glad to see this finally done!

I saw the locked thread on the GiP forum and I was like "Oh no! Don't tell me his harddrive crashed or something!"

But lo and behold, as you know, it didn't!

Good luck!

is it rare or is it easy to find off of ebay?

Nothing wrong with blender, it's just a joke.

Also, your signature pic is too big, please change it to fit the rules.

Thanks!
#1639
No, it doesn't exist, it's a joke! Argh!

As I wrote, it was a joke on DG's typo and then he made a joke about Blender, it doesn't exist!

Dg was trying to type verily and accidentally hit Z first adding the Zverily [how you accidentally hit a capital Z i don't know...]

We were probably talking about 3d packages at the time and I just said "Zverily adds zdepth" and DG made a random joke about Blender.

So your first assumption was correct, that it doesn't matter. Moving on!

Eric

However Zbrush has Zawesome built into it... god i love that program

I am definetly still working on my game, if I'll make the Feb. anniversary I dunno.

I told myself this is the final year I'll work on the game so it has to be out by the end of the year, not that that is a release date of any kind but it's been going on too long now... maybe I'll release something for the RELEASE SOMETHING! thingie...

I don't think RON will die since there's no reason to take it off the internet it will always be there waiting for someone to work on.
