I suppose I didn't understand what you ment, apologies

also, the backgrounds for CMI were colour reduced with a program called Debabelizer, I tried to get a demo of it but they never sent me the URL for downloading

What I would suggest is not just colour reduce your entire background, select certain parts of it that have the like colours and reduce them as much as possible and then combine all the parts, that stops things like green pixels in a perfect blue sky, i find.

here's a tutorial by Björn Kahlenberg who worked on the V agi game:

http://sylpher.com/kafka/tutorials.shtml

I'm sure they used the same technique only with hand drawn images.

Download PicEdit for agistudio and see how it's done, brushes are specifically made to be dithered and such, you'll get a better understanding that way.

I don't think this is a bug specifically about this new version as I haven't checked but character.animating does not see when a character is animating it's idle view.

Is this a bug or something that was just never added?

Eric

edit: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=15174.0  and I see now that Geoffkahn brought this up but then forgot about his own post.

This tutorial of mine talks a bit about what tools to use for making a background, just don't take what it says as gospel as it's pretty old now

I can't offer a suggestion as to why people in RPG forums don't make games and just ... parts.. But I find that curious.

You'd think an RPG would be another easy game to make [I mostly mean stupid ones of course where it's just random battle after random battle] and plug in any old story at all...

You'd think we'd be swamped with them...

You can always start and topic of discussion you want in GenGen, I like talking about any game genre really if it can help me learn something new about game making.

now, since I just found out about it myself, do you know about "assign to view"?

Select a bunch of frames of animation in the sprite manager and then right click and choose assign to view.

Does this help?
#1927
or have a way for AGS to use sprite sheets like these:

All images are put into a filmstrip and each frame I planned out to be 20 pixels high by 30 pixels wide and the engine at run time cuts the images up and places them into an animation.

But then it would be awkward to snag certain frames from certain views but who knows...

Actually, nevermind, that would be dumb and annoying...

If I may make a suggestion

I just upgraded from an older version and it gave me a bunch of errors and such, I read them and all but now that I'm going back through to fix things up I've forgotten all the errors, is there any chance that AGS could write a text file with the warnings in it?

You I make a walk cycle that looks really good I usually spend a few minutes just walking around a background, looking at it.

And then when I make an animation that involves lots of scripted timing and it all comes together, I watch that for even longer, over and over again...

So I suppose it isn't feedback or the knowledge that someone will play my game, it's the thrill of seeing something I've made come to life

The worst part is when you finish the game, upload it, add a link to the completed games section and then sit there refreshing agsforums until someone responds...

Way to be a huge jerk Damien... How do you know how long this background took him to do? Man, that was one of the assiest things I've read in a long time...

Here is one of tanker's older backgrounds:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=19330.msg235627#msg235627

I think this one is a big improvement and looks much better and has some style to it. Sure wacky angles isn't the best style but the thick outline looks cute.

My suggestion to you tanker is move onto another background, don't spend too long on this one trying to prefect it, you'll get better as you work on different, more varied backgrounds and then you can see what you like in the newer backgrounds you do compared to the older ones. Good work so far.

Fmarais, what are you talking about?

Who cares what your IQ is? What Kinoko means is it's very hard to read your posts sometimes, you just ramble and your grammar goes down hill so it's extremely hard to read what you're writing.

If you're not a native english speaker that's fine but when you're given something like this to read:

"Mabe we sud talk to the great AGS MASTER " It's a little confusing.

"1 of them sud have an answer iam really tired know gota go crash and reboot." the same.

Just write out all your words and don't use internet short hand and everything will be fine.

Tanker, just do what you want, people will play the game and lots of people will like it. Enjoy your time making a game and it will show in the final product.

Isn't that what it's all about people? Can we be supportive for maybe one day? That's all I'm asking, just one day get off his case... You don't like the idea that he's making a Monkey Island fan game? So what, don't play it, every body wins. It's not like a fan game will ruin your playing experience from 10 years ago.

In a few ways Tanker, don't listen to people here, take their criticsm in but don't run your life by it. Some people will join any thread you start specifically just to make fun of you because some people are real jerks. So work on something for a while and then when you're REALLY stuck, come here and ask. But again, just have fun.

I'm also really surprised at your posting andail, he has 2 threads that he stays in and posts in, that's hardly pestering.

What fan games do people turn their backs on? What games at all do people turn their backs on?

Anyway, what program are you using Tanker?

and mills will school you at chess and then school you at poker...

only after making up a bunch of fakey rules for poker like whatever "The River" is and "Dealer has to take off an article of clothing if he deals a jack of spades."

Meanwhile, this is everything I do.
