Damnit, stop trolling.
I looked up your last 20 posts, they are either pointless, a trolling comment, or just plain newbish. You have been here for a while, post responsibly.

Yea, you can't really talk LostTraveler:

You didn't even come close to participating in that thread.

As for this thread, Ed, try elaborating otherwise there's really nothing to talk about... just a lot of people saying "Yea<, I've been grumpy before..."

plus how can you get bored of Squidi.net :O thats my favorite ever.

I liked it and then A Modest Destiny stopped and I didn't have much interest in the Starship Destiny or whatever it was called.

That and I grew tired of the artist with his crusade against people stealing his artwork.

I loved Pupkin and then the artist started writing things and turns out he's a jerk also... Now I love Achtung Franz and turns out that artist is a jerk too!

I wish all these comic book artists would stop being jerks!

Critics' Lounge / Re: Promotional "Film"
Fri 03/09/2004 22:50:59
Since this be in the critics lounge I shall critique!

First the usage of black and white as a symbol of the black and white way in which these two characters [who we will dub id and superego] view the world and their art form is stunning, especially coupled with the backwards masking used in the song that pla... yea I don't know what I'm talking about...

But, my suggestion is make it shorter.

I think it's way to long and could start at the 35th second, with the image of the table with the cups top down. they reach in grab the cups, cut to them both at the table drinking the coffee, they put them down and then both take a drag on their cigarettes, they exhale and close up on the artis, "je suis un artiste" cut to filmmaker "I'm a film maker" [doesn't look like he says it in french but it ain't english, correct?]

wide shot of them looking at each other, light sabers, crash.

The joke of the artist's light saber is funny but slows down the joke of the light saber I think. So maybe they pull out their lightsabers [heh... heh... heh...] strike a pose and then give a wider sweeping motion before their sabers crash together and the film cuts. Just to have the lightsabers on screen for a little tiny bit longer before cutting away.

Know what I mean?

Another thing I had problems with was the length of time it took the film maker to sit down, he walks in spills the coffee and spends a long time wiping himself down [He spends six seconds wiping his clothes.] while the cigarette just sits there I feel the moment takes too long.

When the film maker first walks in the room you can't see him very well at all, black shirt and pants on black door. He stumbles into the light and then he has an outline and he's all good, but before that he's lost.

Is the film maker a smoker? He doesn't really look it. Just wondering.

Otherwise I think it's cute. The lightsabers were a big surprise and a nice pay off.

eric

p.s. oh yea, one TINY little thingie, the artist's light saber loops around and pops out the other side of the image when he is whacking it to get the red to turn on.

Yes, I'm a big fan of Kid Radd, I started reading it after I grew bored with Squidi's comic I even forget it's name...

The comic starts very simple and eh but then gets quite hilarious

Big fan ++1!

I love how far this sprite has come and I think it can go a little farther.

I made an edit on the feet

The feet ping ponged back and forth reusing frames so she kinda looked like she was hopping from one foot to the other, I also kept her feet visible in every frame though they get very tiny

I don't think the history of the community is all that interesting if you didn't partake in it.

How interesting is this?

"At one point in 2001 Davis and Helm had a fight about Davis' site Pmind.com. Helm said it was childish and didn't appreciate the use of sex as a selling point while Davis thought Helm was being overly critical and hypocritical. The fight went on for several hours and then kinda stopped, maybe they switched to privately emailing each other or they just gave up. But yea, that happened."

or maybe people remember things that are worth writing about. Little Willy was fun but again, had to be there, especially because there is very little record of Little Willy. A history of games and when they were released could be interesting. A game time line.

don't forget that one

Um James, I think you're reading me wrong.

I'm not "excited" about anything. Read everything I write deadpan unless it has an exclamation point then read it like I'm kinda raising my voice a little.

I'm not like freaking out and kicking my feet or crying or yelling at anyone.

""The graphics aren't amazing works of art", and they aren't."

"But then, with Pleurburgh you get very functional graphics. They are not pretty though"

I couldn't disagree more. I think a lot of the backgrounds in PB are simply amazing.

I don't like the word functional but I suppose it's fine when not used in a dissing kinda way. Saying that they are functional to the game is fine with me in the same way that Apprentice's art is functional to it's game. They create a mood and explain what the room/objects/characters are supposed to look like.

"I think he deserves better then the mildly dismissive "he did the best he could, given how much he had on his plate" kind of remarks. I honestly don't see the graphics in that game as any kind of failure or underachievement. That's why it rubs me the wrong way a little when people say you should try to "look past" the graphics"

This is pretty much my whole rant on PB's graphics summed up, thank you very much. Of all the places where people shouldn't be critical of "retro" art you'd think the AGS forums would be the place. How many absolutely beautiful hand painted high resolution games do we have that Pleurburgh seems to be singled out as the one where we should look past the graphics? How many games do we have that aren't in any kind of "retro" look? Not many at all.

I'm just annoyed because it seems that the old technique [popularized by the Bush administration] of saying something over and over again makes it true.

Shbaz you weren't the straw, I was talking to some people about this at Mittens and decided to actually post it after being reminded by your comment. So you didn't break the camel's back, you just kicked it in the teeth after it's back had already been broken. Jerk...

"The relationship between graphics and playability is more intimate than most people think. You can't always pick them apart and say "yeah the gameplay was good, but the grahpics SUCKED!" Graphics can be a show horse, but it's more often a working horse."

Again, huge agreement there from me to Andail. And nice quotable quote there at the end.

I think that's everything,
eric
