that's something i was going to ask about, if it would be possible to import from animated gifs and have them be individual sprites that are imported

wouldn't have to always make a sprite sheet

but again, not that big of an issue

Never if you can help it, since the majority of games are like 20 rooms long you're basically releasing half of your game... just finish it and release it

check this out, the back legs seem to be close to looking right but the front legs flail around wildly

that website should help out

for me I like the first one because the continued motion of the arm stands out more, the second one because it looks more smooth... argh! i dunno!

for such a small sprite number 1 almost makes sense because the dramatic colour change from shoulders forward to shoulders back is more eye catching...

darth: i have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, i looked the sprite up and down for your extremely awkward description, mayhaps you could elaborate? hehe

igor: I tried but I really don't think the head can do anything, I can't really rotate it since he's only 3 pixels long in the head area, it looks like he's moving his head 90 degrees to either side, so unless you have some crazy magic trick that i don't know about, i think his head is stuck as it is

penguin, the job i'm applying for is a company that makes cellphone and PDA games so you were close.

the first thing that bugs me is the bed, it's like one big colour white, also, some of the shadows are inconsistent. They're really dark on the side of the bookcase and almost nonexistent on the side of the bureau.

the long shadow down the wal on the bureau also shouldn't be there, there's no light source in that room to cast that shadow, it's on either side of the window and the shutters would block the majority of light going to the bureau so it was basically be lit with light reflecting off the room.

the base of the vase [ha!] is completly straight, along with the top.  the light doesn't seem to be hitting anything, it just seems to be sitting there ontop of everything, it doesn't illuminate the desk or the floor with any intensity just the air, and that doesn't make much sense.

as for other things you can have laying around, papers, cameos on the wall [cameo being a small profile portrait of someone in silhouette], a mirror, a cross.

and what is that thing behind the bookcase on the far wall? it looks like a shrunken down image of something and it doesn't look like it fits in this room at all. also I'd consider making the streaks on the far wall run down instead of at the same angle as the streaks on the left most wall.

also may i suggest in the finished game that the light kinda twinkles and moves? it'll add much more to the background I'm sure of it.

eric

edit:

dunno if this will help but i threw it together quick:

woops, i'm a dumb bunny, i forgot to add the bounce, he looks much better now i must say

as for the interview, i have to pass some tests first this being one of them, i just make them and mail them off and then they hire me, so i can't really put it in a setting since that's not what they asked for

hello, made these tiny sprites for a job interview and wondering which you prefer

the shoulders is what i'm talkin' 'bout

basically the difference is in the first one his shoulder/arm moves back 2 pixels and then to the middle and then forward 2 pixels, and in the second one it moves back one pixel, next frame it moves back again, next frame it moves forward and so on, so instead of clicking it flows, but i don't know if it's better or not to flow or to click...

Platformerius: The Ninja Incident by 2ma2 who is a long way from Greece.

but i think Geoffkahn knows about this already [?]

again it comes down to reading a static tut and seeing a model take shape before your eyes... it's amazing first off to watch someone work and secondly i'm sure we've all been reading a tutorial and the person goes:

"Ok, step 1, create a sphere... step 2 make it look like an awesome face with long flowing hair, and now you're done! Hooray!"

at least now you get to see that awesome face take shape

also, there are texture painting videos that are pretty cool to watch

but yea, Fileplanet IDs are free so now you have no reason! [unless you don't have a good connection then downloading 57 megabytes in one go [FP doesn't support file resuming yes?] might be a very good reason not to download them!

i should try blender some day

what did you resize it in? if you used Photoshop when you resize change the resampling to Nearest Neighbor at the bottom of the resize box

to counter Zor's comment about not being afraid of symmetry I just want to say asymmetrical people are sometimes more interesting to look at than completely mirrored people. having him standing with his weight on one foot adds a little more life to him and just standing stick straight staring at us.

to hand out another link:

http://www.planetquake.com/polycount/resources/general/video_tutorials/video-tut-list.shtml

a nice collection of video tutorials that i recommend...

you didn't respond to my post so i don't know if you didn't see it or you don't care or you don't have a fileplanet ID but it's free and i think it's worth it, seeing a video of someone else making a model gives you a lot of ideas and a lot of forehead slapping "DUH!!" moments.

http://www.bobotheseal.com/tuts_vertex_bake01.htm  this is kinda what James Kay is talking about, setting up lights and then baking them into a texture map that you then edit... I don't know if Blender can do this but what James Kay suggested would work well enough also, especially if you can set up different coloured lights

doesn't work for me, it's looking for the jpg in your ags folder on your D drive and since i don't have a folder there it just doesn't load the image

and you can do that in AGS, it's been done with a character walking and i'm sure it's easier to do with just a mouse
#2674
also, there was something else i was going to write and forgot, all the back story you have written here, i strongly suggest not just writting it all in text boxes. even if you think it looks terrible i'd LOVE to see it all drawn out. Even if it's just a slide show with text boxes as support, it would be so much better than just written out

good luck

AGS is now the most awesome peice of software ever... Mr Jones obviously continues to program it

the windows version was a major step forward and now we have alpha blended sprites

it truly is a good day to be an AGSer

thank you for your kind words on my games, as for Digihelm, I have it around here, I'll look for it. And thanks go to Ghormak for the awesome scripting on the Engalwood Stone for my game Spellbound.

I am also pissed it ended after 5 rooms... but what can ya do? [well I could finish it but shut up...]

there are a lot of good games about and if your interest in AGS Games is still holding then i advise you to check it hardcore, like Apprentice and Chrille's demo for his game Revenents [you thought Pleurburgh was good? Revenents could be amazing]

also, Phil Reed [who wrote some articles for you at PMind yes?] has some cartoons up on his site http://phil-reed.com

peace out dog,
eric

I must nominate the hijacked NewsBot thread... it was a thread started by Barcik about a news website that had no bias, people disagreed and then NewsBots were posted...

it was awesome

[at the risk of tooting my own horn this is the one i nominate]
#2677
is this Davis as in Pmind?

if so welcome back, I don't know if you ever saw my Digi-Helm but you're in it for a bit...

anyways, Run Hot is dead, Cornjob may not come out and say it but I think Corny has bigger fish to fry and is too busy working on other things to work on Run Hot, obviously I can't speak for him but he'd probably agree with me...

He lurks and he'll probably respond [I always like it when Cornjob posts out of the blue, it's like when your wife dies and you walk into a room and you catch a wiff of perfume she used to wear and you're like "Clarice?!" but it's just a smell memory... Except Cornjob left me at the alter and he didn't die and he never wore perfume let alone bathed...]

as far as RON and time travel is concerned, I'm making a RON game involving time travel and the chicken and his brother so it might not be a good idea to do that.

I'd like to suggest watching this:

http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetquake/polycount/tutorials/video/paramilitary_punk_video.zip

it's 57 megs but it's amazing and the basic reason I want you to watch it is to get away from extruding out the body. This guy [and many other people] use cylinders instead of boxes and though he uses a different modelling program then you, his decisions can still be taken into consideration and applied to Blender.

I like the face modeling and as pessi says the texture could really push the face over the top. I know it's supposed to be FF inspired so maybe a lighter colour of skin could help

anyways, keep at it and i look forward to more
