hello

working in 640x480 in ags i've found it VERY IMPOSSIBLE to place GUI buttons with any sort of precision or objects in rooms

i have to place the object and reimport the image over and over again until i can get it to line up because the scaling really messes with accurate placement

so basically what i'm asking is some better way of placing objects

at least allowing me to see my images at their actual size so i can place them perfectly. you have no idea how many hours i spent aligning my gui buttons so the mouse over image matches up with the pixels around it...

and all of this is encompassed by a big ol' please

american pie didn't suck...

that would mean it has gone past the state of sucking

not, it continues to suck

and so does the breakfast club
#3263
duh! that totally makes sense

i wasn't thinking and of course getting closer to the mirror would be totally awkward... i think i had my mind on like water reflections and not mirrors

and yes transparency only works in high colour games
#3264
that looks really good darth

i just hope this sways his opinion on a web version

just cause it's online doesn't mean it still can't be issue based
#3265
yup, i've done it tons of times, it's quite neat

only thing is it's random, so they'll just walk around bumping into walls and heading off in the strange directions

so it's best for birds or cats or robots or maids

not trying to trick someone into thinking the character has an agenda
#3266
in the room's repeatedly execute:

if (character[NAMEOFCHAR].walking!=1){
MoveCharacter(NAMEOFCHAR, Random(320),Random(200));
}

that should do it yes no?
#3267
try making a new walkable area behind the mirror and adding a walkbehind area over everything in that area but the mirror so the mirror acts as a hole, ya know?

then make a new character that is exactly like the one you want to reflect so you'll have EGO and then like EGOMIRROR

place EGOMIRROR on the walkable area behind the mirror then move him to the players coordinates except subtract 50 from the x value so he is always 50 pixels above the main character

50 is just a random number i picked out of my butt, experimenting will help

so you could either add to the on_click event or the rooms repeatedly execute something like

MoveCharacter(EGOMIRROR, character[EGO].x-50,character[EGO].y,0);

if i'm not totally retarded this should work

the reason i'd add it to the on click even is cause then you don't have to run a check to see if EGO is moving or not

so i'd have:

function on_mouse_click(int button) {

 if (button==LEFT) {
   ProcessClick(mouse.x, mouse.y, GetCursorMode() );
 }
 else {   // right-click, so cycle cursor
   SetNextCursorMode();
 }

 if ((button==LEFT) && (player[EGO].room==theroomwiththemirro)){
   MoveCharacter(EGOMIRROR, character[EGO].x-50,character[EGO].y,0);
 }
}

i hope i know what i'm talking about...

what what what?! gay?

i walk like that, tons of people walk like that, i'm so confused by you guys!

i think it's a perfect walk cycle

the only thing that i would ask is does he have a definate personality that could be portrayed through the walk?

it's just a normal walking cycle now and if he's some hardcore punker who could give two shits maybe his walk would be different

General Discussion / Re:Does The Matrix Suck?

i just saw matrix 3 last night and it was much better than the second

Spoiler

the fight scenes went back to normal ol punchin' an' a kickin' or they just got much better at rendering a Keanu with CG. granted the ending battle was weird especially the Raging Bull punch at the end and the force of water pusing the rain into a sphere effect was used so often i stopped noticing it.

i still want to know why they can make large Alien style exoskeletons and huge underground cities and exist for years and not once did anyone invent a cotton gin or at least try and make new clothes. just cause you're in a post apocolypse doesn't mean you can't darn your socks every now and then! Either they have messed up priorities or they never played War Craft and didn't know how to work a tech tree.

and in the first movie their eating wheat paste looking nasty foods out of hastily cobbled together bowls with spoons that are made up of more than 1 part [a spoon part] and yet they have prefectly good scalpels that easily stab through people. it's a damned spoon! since there aren't any spoons in the Matrix doesn't that mean they'd create all the spoons they could in the real world?

did everyone else pick up on the idea of love? it was really subtle and you may not have noticed it...

but anyway these are random jokes, i enjoyed the movie much more than the second and there were a few predictable bits and a few stupid bits but oh well, it's an action movie.

then again i didn't like Kill Bill so who the fuck am i, right?

working on the sniper view for 6 Day Assassin was hard mostly cause i didn't know what i was doing and i had to make a comprimise by adding the WADS control of the camera when what i should have done was

SetViewport(mouse.x*2,mouse.y*2);

and everything would have worked out juuuuust fine...

working on my mags game has given me quite a scripting headache and that's why i had to call ghormak in
#3271
mitar stop it, this is the correct forum and you're just being rude

i've never heard of the game and after doing some searching i can't find anything, sorry
#3272
king's quest wasn't the first colour game, where do people get these facts from?

and wasn't 7th guest the first CD exculsive game?

and you could die in indy. i don't remember being thrown into a cell in the first indy game, i remember hitler winning and the game ending when i got beat up

otherwise i agree with remixor completely

and if you don't understand what loaf said:

it allows you to have characters with a blurred line for a border instead of always having to have a hard edge

and sprites can go from totally solid to semi transparent to totally transparent

hehe yea that's my tutorial glad to see you were able to create this from it

rotoscoping pictures of yourself would be quite interesting and from times i've seen this done an almost accidental style comes through the images.

it would also make animating easier cause you could pose in the extreme poses and just fill in the other frames

good luck with the rest woop woop

nice work, i think the one thing you could work on is the skin colour and hair colour

they're way to light in my opinion

i did a little edit but i don't want you to see it till you've worked on this yourself cause for a first try it's really good!

did you trace a photo for it or is it all you?
