too popular for you maybe

these guys are just two brothers dicking around having a blast and making money off it at the same time

awesome for them

i can understand not liking something cause it's too popular but don't you think that's really silly? it's along the same lines as saying you like so and so musician and someone says "well have you heard this song and that song?" and you say, "no just a greatest hits album" and they scoff at you and say "you're not a fan at all."

lots of people like homestar and lots of people love homestar and lots of people love three brain and lots of people love sin fest [for some reason] and too many people love sprite comics.

not to sound evil or anything but bluntly, get over yourself is the only option i can offer. i had to when i thought about things like this, feeling all "but i heard of them first!" when people would mention something on the internet or when Junior Senior was on MTV2.

who cares really? good for the artist and good for people who like it, enjoy their success and enjoy their cartoons.

and enjoy the fact that the last email was from schenectady, my home town

REPRESENT!

eric

strong bad emails were played at a concert here inbetween sets, the brothers were interviewed on G4 also, there are some clips on the G4 site, i recommend

well for not painting i think you're doing a good job.

as for the beams, i think it just comes from practice and restraint. as in i've fiddled with this for longer so i know easily how to get what i want. just keep at it and you'll rock it

a tablet is a good investment if you feel that it is necessary. as you said you can use a pencil easier than a mouse and i'd recommend a Wacom Graphire cause it is of a very high quality and cheap

it seems small but any bigger and you're running into the 300's of dollars and if you go with an Aiptek like i did, you get a huge drawing surface but a pretty shoddy tablet

so wacom's the way to go.

i think the most important thing is if you like it.

the technique i showed you is quite easy no? the only things that i can comment on at the moment is [but these are things that can easily change later on] that there are more than one light source, and the original wood colour on the right, the wall, is a nice brightly lit nice day outside colour

and the new wood seems different. but like i said easily changed through photoshop.

I may revise the tutorial a little cause personally:

this is the best part of the image that i came up with. cause it has more colours in it acting with eachother making the beam all sexy and nice.

which is the reason the right wall looks so good in your image, cause there are so many colours in there playing with eachother in nice ways. how did you paint that wall by the way?

yea there was no time limit and there were no winners

someone would just say "jammitty jam jam?" and we'd start jamming

one hasn't happened for a long time actually, hour games took over for a little while and layabout took sprite jamming to the boards.

i tried to set up a time for everyone to be online but decided it was futile and just decided to jam whenever it was wanted. I had everyone's time zone written down and i started trying to decide on a time when I realized that I'd probably have to stay up until one thousand and four a clock and that's-a no gooooood-a!

hehe no worries, we're here to help eachother

also the whole using the flat colours to block out the parts of the scene should only be used if you're taking an unlayered image and layering it, there wouldn't be much need to do it if you already have layers

but i'm sure that goes without saying

a little thing on layers

1. The image.

2. The layers I used.

3. Visualize the layers as clear pieces of plastic that you're painting on and they rest on top of each other. That way you can easily edit things without disturbing the other parts of the image.

4. Like now I wanted to add a tree so I paint it on a new layer and just slipped it into place.

And my new image is done!

i agree hair is a bitch and i hate it

i have nothing i can offer you in the hair department just that finding references is the best way to go and more people should do that around here including myself

and i did this stupid thing, Dagooh's ideal character for your game

no offense to dagooh, just being an idiot and having fun

verrrrrry pretty

i love the evil skull guy, he is very nice looking

the G on the superhero's chest looks odd to me, like the muscles and body underneath it are all nice and awesome but the G doesn't seem to contour to the body at all

nicey nice and a good decision i think to go for a different style

i think it's the way you paint that causes the blurriness

do you use lots of layers?

if not i suggest it, the right wall is nicely done, the boards are visible and i can see colour variation that makes me smile and enjoy it but the left side looks unfinished. the stair case looks really washy and smudged.

i think it just needs more work in it. i'd black out in flat colours parts of the scene, like the walls and the stairs and the posts on seperate layers, then start working on them with preserve transparency turned on. then you can't go out of the lines and you'll maintain your crisp edges

i tried futzing a little

all i did was the little spot at the top, changing the colours of the bannister for no real reason just to play around, i painted over the blurry edges and tried to sharpen it a little, then i just smudged your original colours and added grain to the wood with a small dodge/burn brush

in this all i did was paint the window edges with the white colour you used to get rid of the blurriness and then with a small burn tool i made some boards

just throwing out some ideas
