Evil, just calm down, everything is ok... In fact just to show how good of friends we are I went back in time and brought your great great grandfather back to our time... He's up on the 3rd floor balcony taking a nap, in a rickety rocking chair, near the edge, resting against a broken railing... With roller skates on.

Hang on I'll go rush up there really quick and shout that you want to meet him until he wakes up.

arthur.com there's no such thing as a hacking device that someone can get for christmas and use to hack youtube accounts.

I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about...

care to elaborate?

Dammit Erin! That's awesome!

Also it's totally obvious you're home for the holidays if you're posting again and making ornaments at all hours of the night.

"Entries must be in by (or on) December 12th "

Tempting... FOR A TIME TRAVELLER!

I don't know exactly how you're going about making this game but I'd suggest keep making the game the way you are and use sketches and programmer art and placeholder backgrounds and such. Then when the game is "done" you can actively look for more artists to "just fill in" the missing parts.

Granted there will still be more programming to be done but you potentially have so much of the game done already, throwing out all that work sounds ungood to me and potentially to any further help you might want to get. "But he's already thrown out all this other work... What will happen to mine!?"

Anyway, this isn't about your blog this is about the image.

There is a tutorial or at least a walkthrough of a background Miez made for Fountain of Youth, give a search for that and check it out, he says some nice stuff.

A beta tester isn't someone who plays through the game once and tells you all the problems they had when doing so. This is what most people who want to help test a game think. As Dualnames says, they think it's a chance to play a game before it comes out.

Their job is to try and break the game. Repeatedly. For days.

A proper better tester would click every button on every object in the room, do puzzles in every order you can do them, stop in the middle of a puzzle and click on everything again to see if anything breaks or a message is spoken wrong given the current context and stuff like that.

Usually I rely on friends for design changes. I'll have friends play it and if they get stuck somewhere I'll take a note and revisit that area. Friends playing is mostly to see the game played by various people and on different computers.

I would rely on my actual testers for show stopping bugs and everything under that involved with breaking the game or breaking flow of the game. Since most people aren't trained in QA I'd recommend giving people a guideline to go from or a template for filling out bugs so they don't get intimidated from a blank email they want to send you and so you don't get bugs back like:

"The guy can't pick up the box. He walks but can't."

Instead give them a template like:

Name:                                           Room Number:
Description of Bug:
Steps to Reproduce:
Priority Level of Bug: 1 - 5

this way all bugs will be formatted and people can easily tackle describing what happened.

oh my! 8 bit going the way of the dodo, but it's only 2007! I personally would enjoy further 8 bit support... I'm sorry for not reading the entire thread but are there other 8 bit specific features that haven't made their way across the 3.0 divide?

Neat, maybe this will kick me in the butt to actually record myself painting a background for my new game like I said I would.

Thanks for the link.

I think CJ is perfectly capable of deciding what is a waste of time and isn't for him to do without need for insulting other members, KhrisMUC.

You can also then create an action in photoshop that makes an image 16 colours and then from that create a droplet which is an EXE file that you can drop images on and it runs all the steps you recorded before... At least that's what I'm told, I've never tried it!

That is if you have photoshop

The thing is... I'd play this game. I have a huge man crush on James Randi.

without opening AGS and testing... is the "hide player character" check box checked in the room? Is it the player character is probably what I should be asking...
#375
Also, fun fact, way back in the day before the big "alien abduction" phenomena people believed they were demons visiting them and the description of what sleep paralysed people saw changed from that of demons to that of long grey beings with big eyes, popular social beliefs win again!

Nightfable, I think the more important question is, can you work on an AGS game while astral projecting?
#376
Neil Dnuma, sleep paralysis is the major cause of people believing in alien abductions. It makes me happy that you don't make this link! Though through the description of yourself and other people's experience, it sounds terrible and not something that is well known so the link is at least partly understandishable.

Astral Projection: There really is no such thing. Out of Body Experiences can be replicated in a lab setting and proper tests of astral projection have come up failures. If you really want to test it, have someone visiting your house take a playing card from a deck and place it face up on the tallest book shelf in your house, one you can't see from the ground. Do your best to astral project yourself up onto the ceiling and read the card. When you've done it come back down and see if you were right. If you were, do it a few more times, if you're right every time, exactly right, not like "I guessed 3 of hearts but it was the 4 of diamonds, same colour suit and 1 number off!" then you are on to something amazing and need to contact a third party.

The main points of interest to me on this site are AGS Technical to see how AGS is developing, see how people are dealing with problems that I might have [or teaching me ways to think about problems that can help avoid them] Critic's lounge because I enjoy seeing people's art and sometimes feel that I can help, GiP and Completed Games for obvious reasons. This should be the main focus of the forum in my opinion.

I personally feel that, if anything, the sprite jams and animation challenges should go, anything that doesn't contribute towards making a game. MAGs, OROWs, code challenges, stuff like this goes towards the ultimate purpose of the forum. Yes, sprite jams are fun and all but it's a distraction. If you still want to make sprites but don't think you want to make a game... Really, that's what Pixelation is for. You'll get a ton more advice and exposure for your art on pixelation than anyone here can give you.

A long time ago when I first joined I made 2 flash movies called Digi-Helm and Digi-CJ. I started making a Digi-Rodekill and Helm said something along the lines of "Man, I'd rather see a game than in-jokes for the community..." and he was right. So I made my alien test game and then 6 Day Assassin after CommaToes started the hour game event. I made games and contributed to the community and made friends that way, not from having debates in gen gen about how man is like any other animal and the concept of self is not sacred [granted, it's tough to make friends with that world view!].

Gen gen can stick around and you can hang out and do whatever, but the rest of the forum may be served well by being refocused to the point of AGS the program. To use it and produce a game.

Get more people making games or at least spending more time critiquing/praising finished games than talking about general general stuff. In my slightly hypocritical opinion!

This is a list by Robin Bougie, I've met him! Jess knows him better than I do!

That is all I have to contribute! The internet is small!

And he is now having a film made about him

A small correction, I believe he's making a film about himself. So...

Deleting frames is easier than adding them!

My girlfriend also felt that him standing slowly was nice for his character but I think there are more economical ways to get across an older man standing than by adding 50 frames to an animation.
