this is SO easily done in scripting that i was super surprised

here we go:

put this in the main global script:
 int footsteptype;

and this in repeatedly execute:

// begin footsteps

footsteptype = GetRegionAt(character[EGO].x,character[EGO].y);
SetFrameSound(1,character[EGO].loop,3,footsteptype);
SetFrameSound(1,character[EGO].loop,6,footsteptype+1);

// end footsteps

that's it...

what happens is i have it so that it checks which region EGO is under and stores that number in footsteptype, then everytime frame 3 is displayed [which is the frame with the left foot touching the ground] it plays whatever sound is the same number as the current region

so if he's walking on region 3 it will play sound3

then when frame 6 comes up which is the OTHER foot hitting the ground, i have it play the sound with the current region's number PLUS 1. So now if we're walking on region 3, the sixth frame will play sound4

the only limit to this is that you have to make sure to use the odd numbered regions. only use 1 and 3 and 5 and 7 and so on, if you use 2 you'll get two different sounds being played

and make sure your sounds line up with the regions. you could even get rid of the whole checking each footstep and just play one sound file of two feet hitting but with a silence in between. but this way if you have the character speed up or slow down the footsteps still line up.

also, if you've already used sound files 1 - 15 or whatever, just add more numbers on the end. if sound 21 is your footstep sound then get the current region and add 20 to it

easy as pie

make sense?

the reason i didn't add bob to the side view was cause it was 5 in the morning and i was tired as all hell

the abundance of colours isn't a bad thing really, just editing the sprites was hard and it looked like he has white lines around his eyes where photoshop adds white while scaling down, what if you scale him down with... okay there are 3 ways to scale, bilinear, nearest neighbor and... the middle one.. i forget what it is

that usually gets rid o the white for me

hey, i like what i can see of the background but it's so jpggy that it's really hard for me to look at with any clarity

can you post a GIF or PNG?

i tried editing your sprites and this is what i came up with:

i added a bob to the downward walkview and i... appear to have missed a line of pixels... but i bent his knees a little more and took out the standing first frame.

on the right walkcycle i took out the first and last frames, fixed his arm on the new last frame cause the highlight appeard out of no where and i moved his feet around so they looked a little different.

also, there are a LOT of colours in there, not that it matters really just wondering why cause looks quite messy. 254 colours in the down walking cycle. wowzers

Red Line

any comments?

about 5.5 hours estimated, i took a break for tv and dinner and lost track. thanks to pesty for enduring version after version of "i moved 3 pixels, does it look better?!?!" questions

don't know how to use them?

what are you talking about? they're graphics that you import into ags and make characters out of, then import the backgrounds and make a game.

read the AGS manual

if you don't know how to use graphics from IG how will other people's graphics help you?
#3632
that isn't how the RON community works.

games must be known by the people in the RON community so they can plan their games accordingly.

why can't you try making your own?

cursors are the most simple thing ever followed by GUI icons.

why not tell us all the name of the engine and the url? how can we just make a table for you if we don't know the limitations we have?

the transitions are done i believe by just adding 1 every game cycle, as far as i remember there are no Wait(1)'s

you could speed some of them up with a few tricks or by increasing the speed at which they draw across the screen [for the spiked transition and the green stripe transition at least]

i'm wondering, how does the RawDrawBox work? does it draw a filled box? cause if not then a box out could be done "easily"

the problem with custom transitions is that the rawdrawing draws behind guis and characters and objects, merging all objects before hand allows you to draw over them but that's silly

you could set up some functions that turn off the objects and rawdraw the image in it's place the same with characters and objects, and then run the transition.

i still want to know how i imported perfect black

interesting GG.

One thing that keeps popping into my head is a quote from Capt. Mostly, something like "I always thought of Richard Longhurst as gay." or something

I think this brings up an important point also. Maybe that one black curator in the GK game was also gay. From the few boards of Hitman I played I figured that he was gay. Does this matter at all to the gameplay? Not at all. [and since apparently the character from GK was pointless to the plot anyway, he's even less important] Does the sexuality of the main character matter at all? Unless it's needed for the plot or the puzzles then no not at all.

Police Quest 1, you pull that busty lady over and she tries to get out of a ticket by flashing her tits and getting all up in your business. If I were a gay male playing Officer Sonny Bonds and i came across this lady trying to boob her way out of a ticket i'd not accept it. If I were a heterosexual male playing, the same. If I were a lesbian playing, the same.

Now if I were either one of those sexual preferences AND a BAD cop then we have a problem. This woman in the game sees you as a man and assumes you are straight and tries to use some cleavage to not get a ticket. It's up to the player, who MUST assume the identity of the ego, to decide what to do. Now since it's a seirra game the identity is left pretty open, but you are restricted by 2 things, police code and that he is male.

I'm sorry if that was confusing, i'm better at public speaking

I noticed that earwig was black and it didn't effect me anymore than it should have. Personally I really hate it when I notice the gender or race of a character. I mean when my mind says "Wow! The main character is black! How interesting." Which of course is more than likely cause there are so few "minority" characters.

As a designer I personally can't wait to make a game and have my female characters wearing clothes, or a long sleeve shirt, or GASP pants!! Not that I'm going to go out of my way to do it, I just don't want tits and ass falling out all over the place. The same reason people shouldn't go out of their way to include or disclude [is that a word?] anything out of guilt or shame.

fleh i feel a fool cause i don't think i'm being very clear in what i mean. i think i was just overwhelmed with your 30 page post. and i had a final point but it's outta here... goddammit

man i love scid

i wish i met him...

teachers: David Mazzucchelli and Tom Hart and Gary Panter are my claims to fame.

people would prolly only know Gary Panter cause he designed all the sets and toys and stuff for Pee Wee's TV show.

David M drew a lot of daredevil comics back in the day and he did Batman: Year One

I met Kaz who does Underworld and wrote for Sponge Bob and Sam Henderson who also wrote for Sponge Bob and has a hilarious comic called Magic Whistle.

I met Ben Catmull who is an amazing artist and he used to work for Pixar on Toy Story 2 and Bug's Life and Finding Nemo. He's gorgeous

I met Kthor from http://www.shortandhappy.com/ at a 24 comic party... i met Leela Corman and I shook hands with Jason and told him i loved him [ http://www.mjaumjau.net ]

Met Steven Notley from bob the angry flower... um... these are all comic bookers and no one really cares

but i do baby!

i do...

wellp, here's a little thing i made about a year ago for the Demo Quest 2 project that Darkstalkey destroyed

it was to demonstrate the awesomeness that is rawdrawing

you start in room 3, just teleport to room 1 and 2 for other things.

follor the directions and i think the first room's transitions go all the way up to 0

and someone tell me how the hell i imported an image as perfect black...

also, if anyone wants the source i'll try and find it but it won't be easy
