Go and be cool and make a scrolling picture signiature. Now thats a fad.

ouch, well i'll have you know that i would gladly stop gilbert from running if only he and pacman would come to an agreement! The agreement being that pacman won't eat gilbert...

my hands are tied...

and i remember a certain someone who put a sound file in their sig on ezboard, and then had a 142kb avatar of them getting hit in the head with boxes or of a hand coming out of their pants.

load up a page and tell me what the "this page took * seconds to load" is, for me it's .42 seconds

oh yea, here's a question, who would pay 3 dollars for Pleurburgh?

And who would pay 50 cents for 6 Day Assassin?

i use imageready, just drag it in from the internet and wooop!

as for the pixels, this image was scaled up to odd degrees, the pixels look 3 times as big but if i scale it down by 3 it gets all wacky. if i scale it by 1/3 the pixels are doubled, if i scale it by half it gets all wacky

i enjoy but the anatomy seems off. His right arm especially [on our left] should look more like other arm. Unless his arm is broken it shouldn't look like that, unless you're purposefully breaking the joint.

try and put your arm in that position and it [hopefully] shouldn't feel natural. maybe i'm wrong but that's some wicked hyper extension.

and we should see more of his left knee [our right] and i think that his right leg should move out a tad more to support himself [in all his pixelly weight]

make any sense?

i really like the facial expressions, there are a few stray pixels here and there but you've mentioned them already

yea the ship doesn't work at all... UNLESS! you make it work by just being consitent and making everyship look the same

if you have a 3d program i'd suggest making a VERY quick 3d model of the ship and then positioning the camera so it looks iso and then just trace the outline or keep it for reference.

this could help

91. I will not ignore the messenger that stumbles in exhausted and obviously agitated until my personal grooming or current entertainment is finished. It might actually be important.

99. Any data file of crucial importance will be padded to 1.45Mb in size.

hehe

oh to be an evil overlord

i changed the feet up a little. made it so his leg changes shape as hie leg moves as you have it now it kinda looks like his upper leg never moves, and i changed the shoes so that three frames of him with his foot on the ground have the same shoe and i overlapped his knee on one...

does that make any sense?

supposedly that's how sid meir got his start, he made a game for the ...something something... commodore or whatever, copied it to disks, printed the manual out on his dot matrix [ahhhh the sites and sounds of dot matrix] and walked to a game store and said "wanna buy my game?"

i don't see why not to go to game's shops. even if they are snooty go to another one in a different area, speak to the manager. convice them, give them hea---

This was brought up a while ago and I just wanted to mention it again

continuous scaling for other directions like left right up down

just a suggestion on how it could be added to the gui. just click the arrow in the direction you want it to shrink and voila.

personally i would use this quite a bit and it could effect the future design of some games [as in layout of backgrounds] in very interesting ways.

eric

edit: to trapezoid:  well... cause.......... i like drawing buttons...

both the photo to character tut and the photo to AGI background tut are on my site, as necro has posted

the AGI tut was done by Bjorn who is working on the V project and it looks amazing.

i edited hope you don't mind.

The I thickened the boot on the left of the image and I changed the pants. This is what i ment at least.

as for the cursors, i have no crits for them, they look real nice. They may be quite big depending on the res of your game, 640x400 [if in fact you're doing a game with these sprites and not just practicing] and i think it's interesting how the door strobes at a different speed than the others.

and if you have photoshop then you should have imageready. what version of photoshop are you running? image ready is an AMAZING program and i do all my animation in it.

i always wondered this too.

played Guilty and it had colour tinting and The Dig too and i thought to meself "curious"

eric

and gil, that's not much of a reason not to add something, if you're going to modify the palette frequently then either you figure a way to use it or you don't use it. if we went around judging what should be added based on what you're gonna use in your 4 years long game, we'd still have to draw walls. hehe

"it won't sell well" "adventure games are dead" bah be quiet

the IF community is kicking everyone's collective amateur asses and when's the last time any of those ever got sold in a store?

i have 2.5 scripts written for a series of adventure games I want to make and sell. I'm going to walk into electronic stores and say "wanna sell my game?" then i'm going to draw a little comic and stick it in the bag and walk into comic book shops and say "wanna sell my game?" then i'm going to go online and say "wanna buy my game?"

if at some point I want to try and sell more copies in stores [which may not be necessary at all, the internet is the greatest resource we have to sell and get noticed, use it to it's full potential and it will treat you well.[which is something i've been meaning to ask Ionias, if he's gone on a maniacle spree[teh pun] of selling himself on the internet, asking for reviews or try to get on various sites, even ones that really don't ONLY cover adventure games, there are people out there who love games, not just genres]] if at some point i want to make it into more stores maybe i'll just pick an FYE out of the phone book and start calling, shipping them there if they agree. or find a publisher online and save up and do it.

if there's anything i learned from college it's that i can't expect to be a millionaire in anything i do. all i can do is create what i want to create and make sure people see it by being agressive and persistent.

making my little comic books and selling them in new york city hasn't gotten me one job, having a site on the internet has gotten me the jobs. Getting into stores will be nice but selling on the internet is the way to go.

that was pretty long and rambling so i'll show a potential sprite for me new game:

edit: ah hell, here's another i just made

love,
eric

haha

the keyword is went... I graduated this year.

what do you major in? i always thought i should put some posters up saying "Hey, i like adventure games, I also make them... LET'S DO IT!"

but alas, i didn't.

i enjoy the sprite but gimme a gif of it! no jpegs, bah.

the pants could be fixed up and i rather like the legs.

this is the second SVAer from adventure game creation... the first was a kid named mike from the Old SCRAMM boards. how curious

i'd personally rather you said something like "A collection of tutorials" or something instead of "an extensive background tutorial" for the Kafka website

if you could be so kind
#3677
i think when you decide that your characters will not move diagonally you really have to design the backgrounds to not make them move diagonally.

otherwise you end up with a character making little zig zags up and down diagonals, which is probably what's happening to you.

* waits for the bombardment of people to say "Yea I knew about this years ago, you're just learning about it? I guess that's cool but I already knew about it, this is old, next we'll have all your base links!"

there are snippets from an interview with the Chapman brothers and the lady that does Marzipan on the G4tv website and apparently edited SB emails were played in between venues at a big ol' concert near me.

i think for the purposes that you need it for it's juuuuust perfect.

the only thing i'd ask for is maybe two more frames when it gets to the horizon

i think that may look good.

i figured the thing that fell out of the sky was a bullet, as in shoot it and get more ammo

but you can't shoot it, or run out of ammo.

and i let Darkstalkey die repeatedly just cause i'm mean...
