We just lost a Grundislav. He is at the airport with a delayed plane [Do airlines have no experience being an airline?!] and Jess and I are now home alone with our kitty.

We don't have many pictures but I think there are more than enough from other people's cameras. Mittens was pretty much amazing and I had a great time. I haven't laughed for a week straight in a long time. No time for a real report because Jess and I are off to the Mittens '04 location to go swimming, it's gorgeous out!

Hooray!
eric and jess

p.s. Pete, you left a piece of yourself in every location you visited. A sock at the cabin, a hoodie in Derren and Grundislav's room [oh la la! PIX PLS], a blue cup in the car and a hair tie in the futon and probably your dinner on the hotel floor in Toronto. And of course, a piece of youself in all of our hearts! AWWWWWWW

Eric, Jess and Francisco are safe and sound at Casa De Colossal.

So many hours on the road... We arrived last night at 2am, had pizza and died. But we're alive now!

And Mittens '07 is off to a great start with 2 cancelled planes in a row! Maybe Godzilla will strike our car on the road tomorrow! STAY TUNED?

There are beds available for 20 adults…but that doesn't mean 20 single beds.  Some people are going to have to shack up.  We'll work it out as fairly as possible once we see the exact situation but no one will need to sleep on the floor.

Dibs on sleeping with Jess!

So, what's the bed situation like again? I know the place has sleeping room for 20 people but does that mean 10 double beds or just "there is enough floor space for people." Sorry if it was covered somewhere in this 13 page thread.

If no bed I need to get out there and buy an air mattress!

Also, can we give you the money over paypal now or are we bringing the money and paying for the place right then or or or?

I was going to recommend an external harddrive, dump your stuff, reformat, install xp, dump stuff back on and use external as a backup. I didn't because it didn't seem like you wanted to spend any money but it's what I'd do.

That's a rather nice effects, I may have to break my "no modules" guideline for my current game to take advantage of this

one question: The rain seems to bunch in the center of the screen. I'm guessing the rain isn't being calculated for outside the bounds of the image?

It's really obvious what a game is, I can't believe this even needs to be discussed. Can't you put your energy into discussing more important things?

No one is forcing you to read or respond to this thread. If you don't like it, ignore it.

you have a long lost sister, Zooty... And she's getting frisky with my girlfriend!

I believe that's enough everyone.

I didn't say it was unreasonable. I totally accept what you say and understand it. I was saying that what would be unreasonable is if you then took that experience and said "There should be a law."

As far as smoking is concerned, there are laws, the socially [if arbitrary] number of 21 [in the US at least] years of age was chosen as a start date for a human to be able to make decisions, good or bad, for their body in regards to smoking. If someone decides to smoke and does not feel they have to or does not care to take into consideration the people around them that may be affected by that decision, that's their fault.

You might not be talking about the ban on smoking when you posted but I was equating your post to the topic. There in the confusion lies?

And that's fine Adam, as long as you don't expect other people to share [or support forcing them to share] those feelings.

If it benefits no one, why do people smoke? I don't buy the arguement that they smoke because they are stupid or that they were ALL pressured into doing it and none of them enjoy it and it's only because they are addicted.

Why don't we just strongly advise against smoking since we won't ban other risky behaviour. You can get cancer from alcohol and other health problems, do we want to ban that too? How about banning marathon work schedules or requiring people to sleep 7.5 hours a day by law because lack of sleep can lead to health and societal problems. Do I hate smoke filled rooms and smoker's cough and the smell and all that of smoking? Yes, but that means nothing in regards to what other human beings do with their bodies.

I think the "Nobody wants to live forever" argument is silly, just as much as someone who says that they know the risks. The main risk is not that you're going to die - everyone is going to die but it's the discomfort, pain and trouble that's going to happen before that.

You could use that statement to try and convince someone to not skydive, base jump, bungee jump, fly a stunt plane, join the army, climb Mt Everest, become a teacher in a depressed neighborhood, become a police officer in a depressed neighborhood, volunteer for the fire department, etc.

Smart people can know the risks for something and still take the chance. I would never smoke for various reasons but those are my reasons and are in no way anyone elses and I should never expect them to be. There are thousands of ways people can harm themselves on a daily basis, we can't ban them all. Should we start regulating how much Burger King or BBQ Ribs someone can eat in a week? That's some fatty food right there and that can lead to all sorts of health problems!

If this is the first screen the player sees that tells them something is wrong and that they are on a ship you need to add much more detail.

What kind of technology is on the ship? Can we see outside? What are the walls made of? Looks like concrete. No rivets or seams? No pipes?

This rooms looks like a bunker underground and not a ship.

This is an extremely detailed image. It's a room from a submarine and look at all that crap! I'm not suggesting you add that much stuff to your room but there is so much in there to take inspiration from.

Here's an awkward 3d image someone made and I found on google images. This hallway has some personality.

Another one. Personality. I do not suggest a floor with a grate. So not practical. If you dropped ANYTHING you'd be screwed.

Again, I'm not suggesting lots of bits and bobs and greebles and wires and pipes for no reason. Take a look at some standard hallways:

These are hallways from hotels. The first one has some nice stuff going on in it. I do not suggest using wallpaper.

These are hallways from the Pentagon.

http://www.worldrider.com/blog/photos/jeremiahs_bed_hospital.jpg

Hospitals. Pillars coming out of walls, fire extinguishers, emergency lights, runners along the bottoms of walls, etc etc...

Also: I recommend extruding the lights down so they have some shape to them and don't just look like white rectangles on the ceiling. Also the blood doesn't make much sense where it is right now. It's everywhere and no where at the same time. I imagine it shot out of a human's body but where were they standing to make that happen? Did their body fall and they were dragged away? Did the blood drip?

Also also also, is it a first person game? If so [and maybe if not] try to play with the lighting more so you don't have to draw the whole background. Turn one and a half lights on so they lead you out of the room and to the right and you can only place pools of light on the ground and slightly illuminate the surrounding walls.

Quick suggestions.

Eric

I can just imagine some asshole running a 640x480 game in 960x720 filtered, thinking they will get better graphics and in reality getting 320x200 with gigantic fonts and incredibly poor performance.

I have to run my current game which is 320x240 256 colours at 960x720 with 3x nearest neighbor filtering on becaues my monitor doesn't do clean pixels at full screen 320x240. If you disable these options to me I will not enjoy your game as much as I could.

They are both freewebs accounts, AmontheFallen, they both use the same template that I imagine Freewebs offers for free.
