General Discussion / Re: Smoking ban UK
Wed 04/07/2007 04:05:04
I used to be all "ARGH! Smokers! What's the deal?!" and then I saw stand up from Bill Maher [sadly I had a life lesson learned from a damned comedian...] and he said "Not everyone wants to live forever." and I realized that he was right. He went on to say that grown ups want to have fun and they known the consequences of their actions. Every once and I while I feel myself slipping back into old Eric and I think to myself "Not everyone wants to live forever."

As far as this ban is concerned, maybe if people keep banning legal recreational drugs in public it will help spark an actual debate on the legality of one drug over another?

Quick question... If video games cause violent behavior... Should there not be a correlation between violent criminals and QA testers?
#524
But going for a walk doesn't relieve stress for me, I don't want to punch a punching bag and going for a swim in mid winter isn't an option, can't I just load up a game and play it? Obviously everyone is different and acts differently, right? One form of stress relief for one dude might not "work" for another so it's up to the individual to find the best form of stress relief. Some people find playing video games is the best for them.

Load up World of Sand or Hate Clown or Unreal Tournament with easy bots and insta-gib turned on and I can't assure you you'll feel much less stressed because maybe you won't and maybe all you need is a quiet room and a hampster in your lap. Just don't make it seem like we don't know how to make decisions for ourselves when it comes to how we relieve stress.

But none of it is real Andail...

Would you rather instead someone read a book to relieve stress? If so remind them not to read a violent book because that is somehow a less valid form of stress relief because of the fake violence. Also, don't watch any violent movies... No shadow boxing because that is based on violence... Don't take your aggression out on constructing something in the basement because that could be viewed as you using tools to beat things up and it's an obvious leap that you'll start using hammers on people's heads and constructing spice racks out of pedestrians.

I kid but your post comes off as very condescending and not well thought out. What stress relievers get the green light?

That being the case, I don't think Rockstar can hide behind the fact it's "only a game", especially in today's social climate.

Then movie makers, poets, authors, artists, singers, songwriters, rappers, sculpters, etc can't "hide" behind "it's only a 'medium of choice'!"

When do you draw the line?

it depends what you want to use this castle for. If it's for a cutscene then go ahead with the Xtreme! perspective, if characters need to walk around in there but not all the way up to the castle, still, go ahead. If you're afraid of the character making the castle look bad because when the character gets up next to it [like spaceboy's first example] then you might have to rethink it [spaceboy's second example]

However, in my opinion:

This was one of the entrants into the Annecy Animation Festival by the French animation school, Gobelins, l'école de l'image.

They're all pretty amazing and Pyrates is great but I'm quite a fan of Burning Safari... Here are links to all of the animations they entered:

What did you make the model in?

Can we see a wireframe shot of it?

Congrats on your first game. I agree with Vince, for a first game this is exactly what everyone should do.

My only suggestion would be to speed up some animations but I enjoyed the kick option and I used it liberally. [maybe this guy is an ancestor of the Automation scientist?]

I should play it again and let the germans get a little farther down the road before opening fire on them would probably make it easier and it appears that they grab cover farther down the road.

Nicely done!

Well you'll have to use all those methods now, what with the state of your car at the moment!

You wouldn't want Ben Jordan on the job anyway... He just stumbles around for an hour until 3 people get killed and then claims the final person left alive is the culprit...

Hmm, Spaceboy seems very eager to pin this on someone else... I'd like to know where you were on the night in question AND DON'T SAY SPACE, BOY!

General Discussion / Re: my music week

I saw The Decemberists on Halloween and they played for something like over 2 hours, it was awesome. They did about 30 minutes of REM cover songs at the end, I'm not really a fan of REM but I enjoy The Decemberists muchly. They came out dressed as Ninjas [for halloween] and rolled around on stage and fought with swords then had a costume competition in the middle of the show.

Then I saw Of Montreal in Massachusetts and they were pretty great so we saw them again in Brooklyn a few weeks after that where they played a karaoke show. They did their set and then fell to the back and played music for people from the audience to come up and sing. Michael Showalter hosted and Paul Rudd and David Wain came out and sang 2 songs. It was pretty awesome...

And before all this I saw The Tigerlillies at Mass MoCCa and that show REALLY blew me away. I want to see them in Europe so hard because they have this whole circus stage show act thingie... Damn me and my American blood!

I imported my 256 colour game and it went in smoothly with no problems.

I must say that I prefer how scrolling rooms were handled in the older editor as opposed to this one. Feels so claustrophobic, especially on my huge monitor.

Edit: I found a problem. It seems to happen randomly but I can't view the settings for my player character [character 1 in the list] unless I open another character too and click from it to the ego. Then most times after when I open a room to edit I can no longer edit the ego's settings. Instead of the ego settings it shows me the settings for the last room I opened.
