Personally, I'd rather rip my own skin off than joining the army, but I guess it's your decision. Also, good luck getting stationed in germany!

My thoughts exactly. Though ripping off my skin won't help me avoid the army because it's still compulsory in Finland, so I'll have to go anyway, next july actually.

Ripping off your skin is compulsory in Finland? Is Pinhead the president?

Spaceboy... you should come to Mittens...

Also, I just recently found the Albany Scientology "church" a few months ago. Waiting for friends outside a Japanese restaurant and there it was, right next door... I know it's just a building but I just wished I could pick it up and crush it in my hands. Maybe if I was a Clear I could have that power!

But I'm more interested in being a Bright!

If you have something that you think has not been brought up before and could lead to discussion by bringing an old thread back in AGS Gen... Dig it up. Don't dig a thread up to just to go "Yea, I agree!" or "I use wordpad to plan my games!" hehe

or take a glass of water and head to MY bed...

It's queen size, oh la la

Radiowaves:

There are tons of threads about how people plan games, do a search and you'll find them.

Dronon:

There's a thing called "programmer art" and it's a wonderful thing. This is art that a programmer does as placeholder so that they can continue programming the game and not have to wait for art to finish making a sprite for a badguy. You'll get little stick figures running around that artists then fill in later.

If you start the art but not stress over it and if the game is worth it to an artist [the story is great and the puzzles are amazing] they'd probably help. A finished game with a known list of art that needs to get done is better than a game idea some dude on the internet thought up and wants to do "some day".

Spaceboy, if you want to see all the people against combat, make a game with it in. Then people will tell you to remove it or make it optional. I fully expect people to rate my game poorly on the ags database because they'll get to the first action sequence and give up. I AM MAKING THIS PROGNOSTICATION NOW!

None of the combat in my new game will be optional because that is the story I want to tell and the gameplay experience I want you to have. No one wants a button to skip puzzles in case you get stuck on one and don't want to cheat by looking at a walkthrough online so why should I allow you to skip my action sequence?

1s and "remove the stpid arcade seqense!"s here I come!

I like the image of Stan chasing Guybrush. JUST BUY SOMETHING... ANYTHING!

Dualnames, as far as I can tell no rules have been broken so all is ok.

Td, this is not how we ask for help or make suggestions for AGS.

also rule 3, lgm.

Did you make that background at bigger than in game resolution and shrink it down?  If so there is some cleanup needed.

The lines are quite blurry. The guard rail blends right into the background and flattens the whole thing. The same with the foreground area blending in with the trees. The buildings behind the trees blend in with the water.

I recommend cleaning up the aliasing and getting rid of some of it. A harder edge will help sell the perspective.

I don't see how humor makes combat redundant. It's not like there are dialogs where combat is randomly injected into the conversation like humor is. Combat is used to not just lengthen a game [like all obsctacles in games] it's used to change your perception of a situation and make you react in a new way.

I have also grown bored with the standard adventure game and the game I'm working on now has combat in it, a few forms of it. The combat in Star Trek 25th Anniversary was pretty good if hampered by the technology... Flying around, fighting a ship and then going on a mission that involves that battle in some way. Not just "FIGHT THE SHIP! OK! Now stroll around looking for things to pick up." You'd fight a ship and then search that ship after disabling it. Or fight off some aliens because they were attacking a stranded federation ship and then you help the people kidnapped.

Something I can't quite explain well is that when a combat sequence feels like I'm playing it in the adventure game engine it more than likely will play bad or at least feel bad. A combat sequence where I'm moving a cross hair around a screen and shooting guys with a simple click as they pop out from behind cover would feel very cheap to me. "All I'm doing is clicking on objects as fast as I can, the only skill is that I can click fast!" Couple that sequence with the ability to go behind and come back from cover by pressing the spacebar [a la Time Crisis in the arcades] and the game gets a little more interesting.

Cyrus,

Seriously, stop digging up old threads.

I don't know how to say this so you understand it. These projects are dead and the author is long gone. Do you honestly think the author of a thread who posted 2 years ago [and if they did have an account here it has been deleted that is why they show up as a guest] is still around and will just stumble on this thread again?

I'm sorry, there are a lot of MI games people wanted to make and they are not worth it. I don't understand your almost fanatical desire to know everything about these game ideas that are at most some 13 year old kid going "I wan 2 mak Monky Island gayme!".

That is very off topic, Steel Drummer. PM someone for that kind of information please.

But when every single scientific test of paranormal activity has failed, you can begin to draw a pretty solid conclusion that telekinesis does not exist farther than science fiction. There's being skeptical and there's ignoring evidence.

Alliance says keep an open mind and I add but not open so much that your brain falls out.

Well it's not going to happen here so stop asking, Drew.

we use all of our brain.

"Maybe it works according to belief?" This is more true than you know. If you believe in something you will accept all sorts of dumb things. If you strongly believe in psychics you will never question why supposed psychics are constantly getting things wrong and making false predictions. If you believe in demons you'll accept that children can see them even though a child having nightmares is as common as a dirt.

Record yourself doing your psi-ball training or whatever. Please. If you ever create one I want to see it on film. It would be amazing.

Man, three posts in and Space Boy is already one of my favorite people...

Last time I said this about a new member the person turned into a whiney jerk so WATCH OUT SpaceBoy!

Also, Arthur. Take pictures, video, anything of this phenomena happening with your friend. I don't know how old you are but there is a thing called the scientific method and just about every paranormal claim has been tested and has failed so I suggest not taking things at face value and do a little critical thinking.
