AGS Games in Production / Re: Sisyphus Reborn
Thu 27/02/2014 21:20:01
Hi Darth,

yes these shots are taken in-game. I just moved the cursor to the edge of the screen as I'm still using the default one (haven't made my own yet). The inventory slides off the screen, so there will actually be no visible GUI most of the game (except for the cursor).

Lasca: the game might actually start with a Camus quote (and end with a Nietzsche quote) if I decide to go "arty"... I haven't decided yet (laugh)

AGS Games in Production / Sisyphus Reborn
Thu 27/02/2014 12:22:46
Hi everyone,

in an effort to motivate myself to completion I'm posting a progress report on my new game,

Sisyphus Reborn

This is my first attempt at using AGS to create an actual adventure game (with the pointing and the clicking), so of course I fall back on the tired old trope of amnesia. But in this game rather than ask "who am I?" I'm trying to ask more generally "why live?" You wake up in here:

and may find answers here:

Can you find meaning in an absurd and meaningless world? This is a question this game will probably not answer, but hopefully make you think about.

The style is going to be quite minimal, entirely hand drawn black and white pen sketches presented in glorious WIDESCREEN!. This game was actually started for the December 2013 MAGS ("Rebirth") but it became clear I wasn't going to make it in time for that. Now 2 months on, the end is finally in sight. It is still going to be a short game, and I would estimate 30 minutes for an average play through. The game is entirely written now, but I still have most of the sprites and all the GUIs to do. I would estimate I'll be done in a few weeks, but then again that's what I thought at the beginning of December...

Looks great CaptainD! I look forward to seeing this finished and I shall check out the demo right now :-D

I've been seeing a lot of this:

"Prev. Best: 2  -  This Run: 1"

8-)

Hey HanaIndiana, if you manage to explode all your characters and you want some music for it, I'd be happy to pitch in if you'd like, just let me know.
(not sure if "Music: Probably none" meant none required, or none available ;)

Oh no, it's some kind of Horrible Horse Hand Puppet!

Wield this nauseating rubber glove puppet in your Valentine's face and they'll be sure to kiss you just to get away from it!
Er, well maybe not. Good for scaring small children maybe?

Some great looking entries again! I like this theme but I'm actually still only halfway through making my *December* MAGS game... so unless I have an amazing idea that can be done quickly I don't think I'll be in this one.

Great little game! Pretty funny and satisfying to play through from start to finish :)

Nice! I liked the atmosphere in this, some great ideas like the frequency tuning. I kept getting lost outside though
Really impressive for a first game made in less than a month!

Just finished playing all the games. Congratulations everyone!

Hello,

I'd like to offer for consideration my first creation with AGS called "Magic Owl"

It is really more of a short interactive experience than a "Game", in which you trigger animations and sounds while flying an owl around a night sky. The soundtrack to the game is created as you play it. It is intended to be a relaxing and peaceful experience of discovery.

Please consider it for:
Best Non-Adventure Game created with AGS
Best Sound Effects
Best Music

Download here

Thanks!

Good luck all of you who are still in! I'm going to be out of town for a week so I am officially out. Hope to play a few finished ones when I'm back! With the amount of free time I have and the speed I'm working at I think mine will take at least another few weeks anyway.

Looks nice Dualnames! Hope you can get it done on time. I started work on one 2 weeks ago, but I haven't had a lot of time lately and at the speed I'm working (this is my second game ever so I'm still learning AGS as I go) there's no way I'll finish in a few days. Still, thanks to Atelier for the topic, because I've now come up with an idea I wouldn't have otherwise, and I'll hopefully finish it over the next few weeks. To try and get the game done in time, I just started sketching things roughly in pen, but I think I'll stick with this style because I kind of like it now.

Thanks Cogliostro!

I had actually intended for the random movement to work like you described, so you could basically just watch it move without any further input, but I couldn't figure this out. I might add it in later if I can get it to work...

Thanks

Congratulations selmiak & CaptainD!

I like the idea of this one, but I only just noticed this today. So... that leaves 3 weeks to go. Maybe?

Thanks CaptainD! I was thinking this could be a good one for kids, though I haven't trialled that yet...
Congrats on finishing your MAGS too! I enjoyed working on it, and going from 0 games to working on 2 within a few weeks seems like a good start.

Completed Game Announcements / Magic Owl

Hi!

I discovered AGS in late September, discovered MAGS in October and thought it would be a good way to force myself to actually finish a project. Up until 2 months ago I hadn't even considered ever making a game, so I'm proud to show a complete working game called "Magic Owl":

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/1739/

Magic Owl is a game of exploration and musical interaction. There are no goals or points to win; fly around and the space will interact visually and musically, generating a soundtrack as you play. The game is intended to be a relaxing and peaceful experience of discovery.

Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks
