Hello,

I'm going to go ahead and assume that some of you into old-school adventure games are also into old-school RPGs :)

So about 2 years ago I recorded an album of music inspired by the original Wasteland game and put it on the internet just for fun. With Wasteland 2 on the way, the old one has been finally re-released on Steam and GOG, and shortly after this inXile contacted me to ask if they could include my soundtrack in the game, which, as it were, they have done:

http://www.gog.com/game/wasteland_the_classic_original

And more relevant to this forum, inXile have a non-exclusive license to use the music, so if you happen to want to use it in a free AGS game by all means go ahead (though if you do need music I'd rather write you something original anyway). You can listen to/download all the tracks from here (though the game version has a few extra tracks and a bit more "polish"):

Looks nice! I'll check this out.
Unfortunately I ran out of time and didn't even get to start work on anything this time :-[

Don't worry, you're not missing out on much: the game was to be called "The Stupendous Adventures Of Yorick", and it would open on a screen in which you were a skull in a pit that couldn't interact with the world in any way, because you're a skull. Then after a minute, the credits roll.

Nice theme! I think I had a bit of a fragment of an idea last night... whether I can suffer the slings and arrows of starting and finishing it in 2 weeks I'm not sure yet, but I'll have a go, and try and make something complete, even if it only has a play time of 2 minutes :)

To MAGS or not to MAGS, hm...

"Small stone come back!"

Looking forward to this one :)

Really cool idea! So simple to play and enjoy, but I'm sure it was a heck of a lot of work to put it all together (just editing and loading all that dialogue into the engine for starters!)

I had no idea when I finished that there would be so many possible combinations, it's almost overwhelming :-D

Oh and that music... far out. "Haunting" is right!

As a native Australian I found the ridiculous stereotyping and overuse of old fashioned slang completely hilarious (laugh)
There was a lot of good and quite witty dialogue in this game beyond the ridiculous slang.

Great voice work and I loved the modernisation of the Crocodile Dundee version of Australia by bringing in Centrelink (beer allowance) and border policy ;)

BONZA!

Good to hear! An extended/more interactive version would be great (though I am a fan of extremely simple games :)), this idea really seems to have resonated with people.

Hey Monsieur, this looks like fun :-D -- I'm interested in doing some music for you if you haven't got anyone yet. Sent you a PM

This looks great, I love a good rainy atmosphere in a game. Looking forward to playing it!

Congrats JasonB! And thanks everyone for the comments, this is the first new thing I've written in a while so I appreciate the positive feedback ;-D

In case you haven't seen it already, there's a nice write up of The 4th Wall here:

The downloads of the game also seem to have shot up by over 1,000 in the past few days. Nice work!  :-D

I really liked the atmosphere you created in Symbiosis, JuaniT - look forward to playing your next game ;-D

Congratulations Hana! :)

I was really impressed by the quality of these games, especially as I'm still working on my unfinished December MAGS game 3 months later ;)

OK done! When I look at these pictures I think more of Sergio Leone films than John Ford films, but rather than just rip off Ennio Morricone I tried to do a more electronic themed piece, with the idea being something like "Vangelis plays Morricone" :)

So here's a piece I imaginatively call CyberPunkWestern

An update for anyone else trying to do something similar -- using the Draconian edition in the above link doesn't seem to have much impact on the volume of character sounds, but it does pan them left and right based on where the character is on screen which is pretty cool. I think as far as a character only making noise when onscreen I'll probably do something like have the character only actually animate when the player stands on a region.

Thanks Khris, I'll give that a try.

Hi,

apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, I've been searching through the forums and can't find anything about this.

I was wondering if it is possible to set the location of a character or object such that any sounds linked in their animation scale with volume the way that an ambient sound would using SetRoomLocation. I have a character offscreen making noise who I don't want to be heard until they are visible to the player character, either by fading in as you approach, or by only making the sounds when they are actually onscreen.

If there is a feature I am missing here or if anyone has an idea how to achieve this that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I will hopefully get something done in the next couple of days... nice theme!

Played and voted! Well done to everyone, that was a tough choice :)

In addition to the actual gameplay, I liked how each game had such a unique idea driving it.
