Quote from: DontTreadOnMe on Tue 01/02/2005 16:58:24What doesn't come across in the post is that i was asking whether it MUST all take place in a hotel.

The answer is yes. The idea is; since a hotel is neutral ground, more will depend on the characterization and plot to make the game shine. (5DaS does this nicely - strong characters and plot on neutral ground.)

QuoteNo lockpicks either?
Finding ways to open locked doors is probably the first idea popping into many heads when the setting is a hotel. And the first idea is 99% of the time a cliché. If you can avoid it and think up other types of puzzles; then that's great. Look at my zoo game. 80% of it is pure cliché.

QuoteI will enter so as to be true to myself.
That's the spirit! :)

I think his legs are spread too much, unless there's a reason for that. Also, as Big Brother pointed out in a recent thread, too much shading/highight details soon turns into a pain when animating begins. But then, that's up to you. I'm pretty sure his hands are in his pockets (at first glance I thought they were a tad short...)

Apart from that he's very well drawn and displays personality. Good job!

Great work, AGS-GD, must have been quite a week! It's hard though (or I'm just not thinking hard enough, besides I just spent three weeks in a zoo, so I might need a break).

But: Nice graphics, I'd never dare going with 800x600. Smooth interface!

I think it would add to the atmosphere if you put structure wherever you could. The floorboard in particular cries for some. Bricks, the wall, the bed could use some as well.

I'm not a fan of black outlines, but that's down to personal taste. :)

Here's another atmosphere-tip: Since it'll be burning in the fireplace, and fire is a rather unstable light source; you could have the light (and the shadows) animated a little (not to be overdone!). This could easily be pulled off by creating 4 or 5 light/shadow layers, and export as you turn them on and off, then animate the background in AGS. You might have thought of this already of course...

Oh, please do not play it for education! The kangaroo description is a slightly edited version of something a little boy wrote in school...   :=

Thanks for all the positive feedback, it's very inspiring  :)

The head bobbing is a function most walking people utilize, however: not everyone! I had a neighbour once, who walked excatly like this guy here, and it was always a faboulous sight! It shows off a certain kind of pride and attitude, and I believe it's a characterisation who would suit a police officer perfectly (my neighbour was a farmer btw, but he had an incredible amount of sheep) - it would also apply to a lot of security guards, decorated military personell and so on. All these probably have a hurting neck after a good days work walking around in their pride posture, but that's the flipside they are prepared to live with.

I think he's perfect.

select the chewing gum first, and then use it on yourself... I agree "use" in the inventory window should have worked as well :) I'll add it in for an eventual later version.

Joyce - try turning the panel off, then on again (upper right), then retry the code. It should work.

It's not the order you look at the notes, it's the order between them (eg. the first (the one at the door) says "i put [the key] by the kangaroo" meaning kangaroo is first ( 8 ), then the note by the kangaroo will give the 2nd and so on... :)

It should be run in 320x240
#354
Oops, you're right.

But if you only restart the panel "off", then "on", it works again! (no need to start over). This panel was Made in Germany in 1983, and gets jammed when getting the wrong code! Hmmm... I'll make this clear, and sorryÃ,  for all possible headaches!

EDIT: There's a new version up now which avoids this completely (you might still be able to complete the game with the first one though, just restart the panel)  ;) Oh, and thanx, Steve  :)

About that code:
Spoiler
It's calculated when you begin playing, and is not related to in what order you do stuff. You can try as many times as you like, look at the notes over and over. You get the code by looking at the signs, and the order in the notes (beginning at the door). Remeber that the panel has some sort of "main menu" (1: gate/2:safe) and whatever you press here is not related to the actual code. I've looked at the script again and done a dozen more tests and I can't find anything wrong.

If the game crashes, it'd be nice if you put the error message you get here (or PM it) Ã, :)

Joyce:

The note on the door leads to the first animal. Eg. if it is the kangaroo, the first number is 8. You get get the second destination from there (by interacting the bush) if it's eg. the rat, next digit is 2 and so on... It should work, if not please give me the notes you've got. (these are constructed when you start playting)

Yep, i know the plant is by the fish, ive read about the plant and looked at the plant etc, but can't find a number in any of the text. Have also tried all combinations with the numbers ive found on the safe panel, but it wont work.

Alright, but since it's about the animals, you must forget the plant and read about the fish instead. And you don't have to put the numbers in every possible order, just follow the order of the notes.

Yes, finally you can be a kangaroo. At least for a little while.

It's 13.5 Mb... I dunno, prob because of all 32 bits going into it. I'll try to less bit-hungry next time.

It's my first game (I found AGS two months ago), so don't expect too much, just have a little fun!Ã,  ;)
