I don't know if it's excatly the same, but I have been awake but unable to move the body sometimes, during the moments before/when I fall asleep. When it's happened, I've sometimes seen or - more often - heard persons/objects in my room or outside the window which aren't there. It hasn't been a joy. I cannot recommend this, I use lots of energy to get moving and wake up, and am exhausted afterwards. It's quite normal, or so I've heard, and a friend of mine linked it to astral projection.

Those are nice paintings. Maybe a little busy for my taste. But then again, I like the works of Bruegel, and he can make busy paintings too.

It seems I can never find the time anymore, but I still have some hope to create another game some day. I guess I never learn. There are lots of unfinished stuff laying around.

I'm inspired by movies, books, art and music mostly.

Susy was an extra in the bus.

Why don't we just start voting, and give that ~24 hours?

Idea: Rui.
Background: JB.
Characters: JB.
Interface: JB. Great job, JBurger!

Wow, nice one, Ouxx.

Sorry about this superfluous post, just wanted to say.

It's no big loss. Besides, as you grow older, you're gonna grow so much more hair in other places to make up for it.

Okay, first I see you've updated the BG while I made this... :)

Anyway, I thought the parts with high contrast could use some manual anti-aliasing, such as the bottom of the door. I just picked the opposing colors, and decorated with a value in between. Used carefully, I think this can make it more pleasing to look at.

Now, you just remade the door yourself, but this applies to other parts too.

Apart from that, and what others have mentioned, I am glad to see you're drawing again, and this piece really has a great atmosphere to it. Will be great with the lit fire!

Yeah, sorry, I realise I am stretching the rules. I'm going to disqualify myself to avoid confusion. I had fun making it!

Thanks a lot for the compliments, they are very much appreciated :)

It's a power station.

Not an entry.

Any other way to get this game? The link only brought me to a Porntrack-history-killing spyware installer. And I don't want the internets to mess with my porn.

Nice job, but I feel the butterfly is to stiff and the wings to slow.  Check out this for a slow motion study, and this for some speed/movement observations. The wings should be more affected by their movement. Also this is a rather long intro, and might get boring if watched several times. The first 3 seconds are superfluous, and the camera tracking (and taking note of) the lamp before panning to the clapper board is messy. Maybe showing the lamp isn't really necessary.

Sorry if crits are not appreciated, just my observations. Either way this looks pretty.

Cat for Functionality, JBurger in the other categories. Nice work!

Also the descriptions would have to be keyed to blind people because, "Yous see a small white house in the middle of a field" ain't gonna help you if your blind.

I don't understand this, am probably missing something. How is this information not helping a blind person?

I agree with Andail, this is a good foundation for a cartoony bg.

For the fun of it, I triend unifying the colors some. I'm not a big saturation fan, some surely disagree, but... Also i added some very basic shadows. I know you're planning to do that later on, but I wanted to see how it worked. I pushed the blue in the darker areas, and mainly red in the brighter, to get some ambience going. This is actually a bit inspired by the Technicolor process... (you know, classic Disney etc)  The room outside would naturally be under different light, so I pushed that in a different direction.

Hope it can be of some help.

Congrats, seaduck, you win by a good margin!

A big thank you to both participants.

Alright, ending this now. I guess the topic wasn't too interesting. Or people are either lazy or busy with other things. Maybe it's not the background season.

At least we have two backgrounds to vote for!

The voting will last till monday;

The categories:

Idea - The underlying idea to the background. Doesn't
necessarily have to coincide perfectly with the theme of the
week, just strike you as interesting/amusing/inspiring; a place
you'd really enjoy visiting within a game.

Atmosphere - How well the image manages to evoke a certain feeling or mood.

Design - How well the elements in the image are designed,
such as landscapes, buildings, decorations, clouds, doorknobs,
etc.

Composition - How well the elements in the image work
together/are positioned in relation to each other.

Functionality - How well it would work when adding sprites, i
ncluding appropriate walking distances, a good angle for
character sprites, clever walkway solutions, easily understood
exits, etc.

Technique - How well the ideas are executed in form of
rendering.

Yeah, I'd add an optional voice-over for every room too, describing it as the player enters. Like the old text-adventures really.

Nice sprites all around - made it hard to pick a winner.

JBurger's Vincent is worth a mention, very effective pixelling.

In the end though, I picked Brad's Hannibal, with a great pose, good shading and it really recalls the (rather terrifying) scene. So you win! Good job everyone, onto the next one!

No worries, I'll give this one more week.

Hopefully, we'll have your and Ildus entires in by then :)

And maybe (hopefully) a couple more...?

Good luck!
