There's just got to be more to this than meets the eye...

Especially with 42 other people queuing behind you.

Holy crapola-monkeys, it's a mass AGS magazine takeover! :)

Well...

If this was a request to stop the word games because they eat precious bandwidth, then I'd agree wholeheartedly.  I was surprised when Chris the-bandwidth-payer himself posted in the word-association thread (a notoriously bandwidth-eating type of thread).  I guess he just couldn't resist the Pamela Anderson-silicon gag. ;)

(I was going to say 'he couldn't resist the Pamela Anderson-silicon crack', but that would be dangerous wording.)

Anyroad...

I'm replying here because this thread is another indication of an issue that came up on the forums a few weeks ago.  That is, when a person/group of people doesn't like a particular type of thread, they ask for it to go away completely.

Now, I'm with you, DG.  I find word-association and continue-the-sentences threads as boring as hell.  But I've always dealt with that by simply ignoring those threads.  The way I see it, I dislike the threads, but there are other people here who don't dislike them (as can be seen by the number of unique users who participated in the word-association thread).  And if they like to post in those threads, then...  it's no skin off my nose.  I can just continue to ignore the thread, as always.

So I'd like to make my own request (again) here to everybody.  If you, as a user, or a group of users, dislike a particular type of thread, would it be possible for you to just ignore it and let others have their fun?  Is it really so irritating to you that this type of thread exists on the board, when you can simply choose not to read it?

Thanks for listening.

P.S.  If Chris were to indicate that those threads were putting the squeeze on his bandwidth, I'd be first in line to blow a large raspberry at any member who tried to start one up.

Haven't we had this discussion?

Yeah, drug abuse gets it's own warning when it's in films, so I think it's a good idea to add it here.

I meant to say this when the icons were first added, but forgot: perhaps there should be a key to what the symbols mean somewhere on the page?

I know how JA is regarded around here, but here it is anyway...

I keep the boxes for my adventure games piled on top of my wardrobe.  I'd like to say I keep them because I value them so much (and that certainly is part of the reason), but actually my main concern is that games with original boxes go for a lot more money on Ebay.

I'm such a stinkin' mercenary.

Well, it's shiny and nice, and sounds powerful.  I haven't the foggiest idea how to begin writing a game, but I guess that's what the acronym RTFM was invented for.

Anyway, I propose Chris appends a piece of medieval weaponry onto AGS for the next release, because we don't want to be left behind in the 'cool name' stakes.

Plus they made the decision in MI1 to use those occasional close-ups of the characters where they were shown as realistic people.

My favourite is Monkey Island 2, but the best game I've played is Gabriel Knight 1.

GK1 had great interaction, great puzzles, great plot, and great integration of the puzzles into the plot.  Grim Fandango is superb, but didn't manage all of these things throughout IMO.

Oh, come on Eric.  You draw a character in a pose that is widely recognised as being camp, and then question why people assumed he was gay?

That's like drawing a guy in a beret with a string of onions round his neck, then wondering why people assume he's french.

Ooh, ooh, ooh...

SAM: We'd better get out of here, pronto.
MAX: Okay, Sam.  Mind if I drive?
SAM: Not if you don't mind me clawing at the dash and shrieking like a cheerleader.
MAX: Sam...  is 'pronto' a real word?

A great joke enveloped in another great joke.

Moue: Freeze, Monseiur!
George: I'm innocent!  I'm an American!
Moue: Can't make up your mind, huh?

Blimey, that visual pinball is good stuff.  I've just downloaded some recreations of real pinball tables (with Pinmame), and they're really well done.

You have to light up a number of 'suggestion' lights, in order to score a NEW FEATURE! *dingdingding*

Every landmark scoring (say...  every 1,000,000 points or so) there's a Mittens gathering.  You have to shoot the loop within a time limit to get an AGSer on the plane to Mittens.  You keep doing this until you don't manage to shoot the loop within the time limit, at which point the Mittens gathering ends.  The more AGSers you got to attend Mittens, the higher your bonus.

That's all I can think of right now.

Get Kazaa-lite and put it in your shared folder, then regularly go on the internet for a few weeks so that people have time to download it all.  Then multiple users will have it in their shared folder, and voila - your game available (most of the time) for anyone who wants to download it.

This assumes you have broadband though, so that people won't go crazy waiting for the data to transfer.

Ask him how he feels about the reaction to his infamous 'p&c is dead' statement last year.
