Thats very odd people regulary don't like the pain in the traing camp(e.g. running in girlsuts, diging yourself in the ground....naked,etc,etc)

Of course nobody likes pain, but the only pain you feel in basic training is from excercising so much.  You don't complain about it, because soldiers don't whine.  ...also, you can't really speak for everyone else; how do you know nobody would be willing to go through with military training just because of a little discomfort?  There are far too many soldiers, especially in my country's military, for that statement to be true.

Also, what in the sam hell is all this talk about running in girl suits and being naked? ???  I thought the military had a policy regarding that sort of thing, called "Don't ask, don't tell".

Private Wtcq, you are chewed up like a soup sandwich!

Definitely try a different skin tone for each character.  The girl can get away with being somewhat pale, like she is now, only you should use a slightly darker color for the outline of her face.

As for the two men, I'd give Fu Manchu there a tan, and the EMH-looking guy a bit darker complexion as well.  Like I said with the girl, try giving those guys a slightly darker outline as well, that way they won't appear to glow in the dark.

Nice portraits, though. :)  Very simple.

EDIT: You could try the skin tone from this sprite, and see how you like it...
I'm afraid I've forgotten exactly what the RGB values for those colors are, though.

On topic: I prefer to not play MMORPGs as I find them a waste of money, especially if you have to buy the game and pay monthly fees. If I play any MMORPGs at all, they're usually those free crappy ones (like RuneScape).

Endless Online is another one.  The game itself really isn't all that bad for being free, but it's just the other players (the stupid ones) that suck the fun right out of it.

What the hell was Cho Yun Fat talking about?

Kinda vague, can you be more specific?

My bad. :P

Beautiful, especially the one on the bottom. Your dad must have a thing for Ibanez.

EDIT:
Found this.  It appears to be in Chinese, and I can't understand what they're saying, but it's still kind of fun and educational to watch.

I've known about Stew Mac for a little while (and you're right, their parts are expensive! :P).  I know they sell all kinds of necks, and they also sell a pre-made through-neck.  I had considered going that route, but something turned me off about the whole thing in doing that.  I can't quite explain it.

For this last while, I've had this... JONES... to build stuff out of wood.  I've built a shelf, and a workbench, and I just had the bright idea one day to move on to something way more complicated and time consuming.  (I must have gotten the idea from here)

Plus, I figure; why spend $5,000.00 on a flying v, when I could probably build one for way cheaper?

As far as good wood goes, I'm not too worried about it.  My workplace gives away scrap wood, because they can't use a board that's bowed, or has a rough cut patch on the side.

Most of the maple I've brought home is perfectly good wood.  The majority of the boards I've acquired don't even have anything wrong with them... (I just said they did.  :-X )

Same here.  I never thought Axl was a very good singer to begin with.

It's such a pity what has happened to that band, they had some really classic songs.  Althougt I still get to hear those songs on classic rock radio all the time.

Now the band is nothing but a joke with an indefinitely delayed punchline.

(I don't see why they couldn't get a session guitarist?).

Yeah, no crap.  I mean how many guitarists have they been through already?... 8, as I count (including Slash, Izzy, and Buckethead).

General Discussion / Luthiers?

I know there are a lot of musicians/people who play a musical instrument here, but I was wondering if any of you have experience in building instruments, namely guitars.

I brought home a bunch of really nice white maple from my workplace, and I was thinking of trying my hand at building a guitar or two with some of it. I even managed to sneak out some wenge veneer for the fretboards (shhh... don't tell my boss...)

Anyway, the only wood that I don't have, that I can't get from work, is some bubinga. The guitar design I have in mind is a neck-through construction, so I plan on using some bubinga to reinforce the neck.

I've looked around the web at quite a bit to find a company that sells it, but most of the sites I've found only sell:
1. rough cut, or
2. mass quantities.

I'm trying not to be picky, but I'd prefer it if the wood is planed at the very least (because I don't own a planer). I'd also like the dimensions to be roughly around 3' 6"H x 3 1/4"W x 1"T (~1067mmL x 83mmW x 26mmT).

I was referred to one site, Lagae, but I don't speak that language.

So, anyway, are there any luthiers here who wouldn't mind sharing the secrets of where they get their wood?

Come on, this is the 21st century.  If Mr. Jones decides it's time to hang up his compiler, then we'll just clone him and force his clone into servitude.  If the clone refuses to work on a new version of AGS, then we'll clone him again, and make the new clone watch us blow away the old clone.

Seriously, now: I think, to ensure AGS never suffers any one of those fates, everyone should make sure and show him some gratitude every now and then for everything he does to make this program so great.

If there is a UK equivalent of the US's Federal Trade Commission, check out their website.  Normally when a telemarketer or bill collector calls me repeatedly, I threaten to get the FTC involved, and they usually stop.

EDIT:

I'm not sure if these are the correct agencies, but here is The Office Of Fair Trading, and The Competition Commission.  I got them from the FTC's website, under International > Foreign Authorities.

General Discussion / Re: What's in a name?

You know what I'd like to hear?  Some Chinese Country-Western! :D  Now that'd be something.

Anyway, Cameron, something I just thought of today.  You've been debating this issue of changing your band's name from "Mystery Machine" because it's supposedy immature.

There is a local band here in Shawano, WI by the name of Mr. Slate.  For those of you who don't know; Mr. Slate is the name of Fred Flintstone's boss.  I personally think it's one of the most retarded band names I've ever heard, and initially I thought they were going to be a bunch of ass clowns.  But despite that, Mr. Slate is probably one of the area's most popular local bands.  All the metal heads around here like Slate.

So, mention it to your bandmate(s), if you haven't already come to a decision.

Two sayings that come to mind here are:
1.  "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."
2.  "If the shoe fits..."

"Mystery Machine" isn't really immature, although it does make me think of Scooby Doo, for obvious reasons.

But, like everyone else is saying, names like "Pantera", "Metallica", and "Shadows Fall" aren't what got those bands signed (even though I happen to think that Shadows Fall is an awesome band name! :D ).  Even bands with crappy names get signed; "Crossfade", "Hinder", "Submersed", "The Donnas", etc.

Coming up with band names is really hard.  Because once you think of something that sounds even reasonably cool or catchy and original, that you and the rest of the band agree on, you'll sooner or later come to find out that it's probably already taken (or was taken).

EDIT:  Case in point - I was going to use "Ab Irato" as a band name, but as you can plainly see, it's taken.

No matter how original you think a band name is... dammit.

I suppose that you'd be able to set it just about anywhere, but the logical place to put it would be at the top of the global script, under "function game_start()".  That way, it gets set to the speed you want right at the beginning of the game.

Awesome.  Thank you.

Beginners' Technical Questions / SetTalkSpeed?
Mon 02/04/2007 17:55:41
I could have swore that I saw, in an earlier version of AGS, that there was some kind of scripting command that allowed you to set the speed of the character's talking animation (I think that's what it was for, anyway...).

I've been looking through the manual, but I can't seem to find it again.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
