I enjoy reading from time to time.

Two of my all-time favorites, "Moby Dick" by Herman Melville, and "The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson, are two titles I've read quite a few times, in many different editions.  I'm sure just about everyone here has read either of both of them at least once.

Right now, I'm reading a paperback novel called "Dead City" by Joe McKinney.  It's about an on-duty police officer who finds himself caught in the middle of a zombie outbreak.  It's nothing spectacular, but I find it entertaining enough.

The kiiling of animals for food is an entirely different debate altogether.

Yeah, that was kind of my fault, I think.  Sorry.

Matt: Well don't get me wrong, I'm not strictly carnivore, I eat vegetables as well.  And yeah, you're right, I don't need, or actually like KFC.  I'd actually rather eat something I raised and harvested/slaughtered myself, than something corporate and processed.

I didn't understand what your point was before, but I can understand it much better now. :)

Nacho: lol

Radiowaves:  Well, let's think about this - you slaughter a cow for food.  Once you've stripped away all of the muscle for steaks and hamburger, then you're left with the guts and the bones.  The heart is a large, tough muscle and is commonly used for food, as well as the liver.  The intestinal lining is used for sausage casings.

I suppose the tongue or the brain is served as food in fancy restaurants, or the brain is used to make headcheese, but I don't know of anyone who actually eats that.  The lungs could be used for haggis, but again, I don't know of anyone who actually eats that.

I don't know if the kidneys are used at all, as well as the testicles/ovaries/reproductive system, or the stomach.  I sure as hell would not eat the bladder or the colon.

Many of the leftover organs that aren't, or can't be sold as food for us can be ground up and made into dog food, but then again, I'm sure there are certain things that even dogs can't/won't eat.

After all that, you're left with the skin and any hair, fat, the blood, the bones, and lot of ligaments and tendons.  That makes up more than half of the animal, I'd say.  I don't know about you, but I'm not eating any of that stuff.

We don't necessarily need leather, do we?  To me, it seems like more of a luxury than a necessity.  But unfortunately we can't live without food or medicine.

I think there's a kind of irony in the petition itself.  If these people are such brutal, dangerous "savage indians", I could see them laughing and wiping their ass with a copy of it, especially since they're supported by the government.

Matt:  Doing all of that to a chicken, that will be eventually be slaughtered to make food, is cruel and unnecessary.  But still, it's a fact of life, we need food to live.  Even if it's disgusting swill like KFC.

Peek-a-boo!

Got some snow this weekend, almost a foot.

The guitar that I'm building (not actually assembled yet, just set together to see how it looks):

I didn't bother to watch the video, I just can't watch that kind of stuff.  Not just because I love animals, but severed heads make me want to vomit.

But I did sign the petition.

I just like zombies in general.  The Resident Evil series betrayed me with RE4... fun game, but no zombies.  Just a bunch of rabid Mexicans with giant bugs growing out of their neck-stumps.

Dude!  Gross!

Edit:  Yes, time without the kids is nice.  I get this weekend all to myself, without the wife or the boy.  Double yay!  Sometimes though, you end up spending that time not knowing what to do with yourself. :P

There should be a sixth option for each of these:

F:  (Apathetic) Life is too short to let something so trivial bother you in any way.

That would be my answer for all of them.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Designing a band logo.
Sun 11/11/2007 08:04:43
Took me a while to repost, I was trying to come up with other ideas for the logo.

I finally got a satisfactory result as to what I was trying to do in the first place.  I took a hint from LimpingFish:

With solid letters:

New idea.  The actual "black hole" effect:

Simlar to before, only with a white ring around the black hole:

I tryed to come up with another logo not using the band's actual name.  Unfortunately, all I could come up with are these tribal-like designs (I know they're large, but they can always be resized):

Cobra79: Eesh!  That word is even longer! ...and harder to spell! :P  I'll take your word for it though, as I can see that you are fluent in both German and English.  However, I did a little research, and found that "fallhorizont" actually means "drop horizon" (correct?), which I'm assuming could be the same thing as an "event horizon".

Oliwerko: I tried adding a few different shades of blue, as well as some white.  I wonder if I'm beating the whole "black and blue"-thing to death.  Maybe I should approach the whole thing with a different idea, and different colors.  And yes, I did take my nickname from Morrowind, but there's also more to the story.

I'll keep working on new logos, trying a different font, and a different design all together.  I guess... what sorts of things do people first think of when they think about black holes?

It's "FALLHORIZONT".  I'm told it's German for "Event Horizon".

Babar:  I suppose it's not absolutely necessary to use the band's name as a logo.  Yes, it does seem very wide.  I suppose, I'll try and come up with a few more alternatives, and then repost.

I drew up this logo for a local band in MSPaint:

I thought it looked kinda crappy and pixelated, so I've been trying to re-create it in GIMP.  This time I opted for a spiffy glowing text:

Only thing is, I'm having a little trouble fabricating the reverse-glow-line-through thing that the original design has.  Any ideas, suggestions?

While you're at it, thoughts on either design?
#77
Hmmm... I used a simple 10 px gaussian blur, and GIMP locked up.  I dunno what that was all about.

I have to work overtime, but my wife is taking the little one trick-or-treating with the downstairs neighbors.  We had his picture taken today at the pharmacy:

Maybe there should be a AGS Novel thing to keep people motivated.

That's a pretty darn good idea, but I think that may fall by the wayside as well.  One of those, "Eh, screw it" things. Heh.

This whole thing kinda sounds fun.  I think I might give it a try...  I haven't clicked the link yet, but I think I could do it.
