Hmmm... I hadn't taken that into account.  I don't really remember the specifics of a lot of religions.

I'm going to stop right here, though...  I don't really want to get religion involved here... :-\ ... It's too touchy of a subject for me.

Well at this current time... I AM unemployed.  I'm trying to take all free time I can to finish up high school (even though I should have finished about 3 years ago... MOVING ON!...)  In high school I had wanted to go to the Joe Satriani guitar school, but then I also hurt my hand, and now my guitar abilities aren't so great anymore (how ironic). >:(

I figger I'll be done with H.S. in about a year, and when I've finished that, I'm going to go to a technical college for a five year degree in computer programming.  I think while I'm at it, I'll take some photoshop classes or some CAD/3D design classes.

That's the whole reason I sought out AGS in the first place, I love games and I've always wanted to make my own.  I had seen something on TV for some colleges that actually specialize in video game design, I've been reading up on those.

Aside from all that, I had heard somewhere that there will be about a 200% increase in the demand for programmers in the next decade or so.  So, that's another good reason to become a programmer. ;)

All I have to say is that I don't have any problem with the human body.  It's a natural thing.

Most males are going to see a few breasts in their lifetime (probably a lot more once their married).  But if you sheild their eyes away from these things, they're going to turn out to be such boring losers.  In which case they're probably never going to get married and have children because no girl is ever going to want to date a 30 year old man who's never seen a nekkid woman because "mommy says it's dirty.

That's what I don't understand about it, parents and censors make it sound like it's something horribly bad.  When it's not.  A lot of people in this country do need to pull the stick out of their asses and stop making the human body out to be something to be ashamed of.

Is there a function that will enable me, after I open my inventory window and select an item, to use the selected item on a GUI?

I've looked through the manual, and the Tech Archive, I can't seem to find anything that might help me.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, it may be about 3 months worth of time off, but still, they're just kids... (I mean gradeschool kids, not junior high, or high school level).

All work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy.

Hey, this thing is pretty cool... Why do the japanese get all the cool shit?  They get all the cool video games that we never see or hear of too  (anyone ever heard of Live A Live?), and that makes me kind upset...

That, and Japanese women are hot...

*Sully nods his head and smiles...

That and you can play p0rn games on your playstation (that's pretty sad when you sit and play with a dating simulator just to see a nekkid woman... er, cartoon woman).

I pity the school kids though... no summer break?!?!?!  WTF!  I would have shot myself a long time ago if americans had to go to school everyday all year round.

Cool.  I'm glad to see this many people interested!

I figger I'll post in twice a month (maybe three if it's important enough) so that I'm not wasting a ton of bandwidth.  Just to let you know how things are rolling along with the project.

As of right now, things are running smooth a silk.  I was playing around with my script yesterday, and I (ooops!) messed up the health indicator and couldn't remember how I got it to work in the first place... but I got it working again (with a different method).

Now to answer some questions:
Gord 10-Ahmet:  Thank you.  I am going to make the game a little humorous.  It's not going to be all stone-faced and serious, there will be a tiny bit of Evil-Dead type humor in it.

Lauren:  The health indicator is mainly affected by how much damage you take from zombies.  I tried to think of a more original approach to the health issue, but I was drawing blanks, so I just went with the health meter.

Petteri:  Why, thank you, Pete!

Rincewind: Yea, you're right... it is very similar to NOTLD.  I didn't really realize exactly HOW similar it was until you had pointed that out...  maybe I'll have to make a few adjustments in the story... ;)

Os àšltimo Quão Queijo ^_^:  Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, foo?  Jk, but really, what do you mean?

Sergiocornaga: Thank you.  Speaking of the interface, I'm thinking about adding some other types of interface.  Like some pop-up mouse-over health indicators for the bottom corner of the screen, and an ammo indicator of some type... I had one indicator that I finished for the main character, so that you don't need to keep opening the inventory window to check your health, but then I realized I needed to make another one for the female character ('cuz as it says above, you will need to keep her alive to finish the game).  That kinda cluttered up the screen, so, even though I haven't finished scripting them yet, I know what I'm aiming for.

BigBrother:  I know what you mean.  I have been thinking about that lately... I really am not going to put a ton of effort into the graphics, but I would like them to look halfway decent.  So I took all of yesterday, and I blew up the sprites for close up shots, and I de-pixellated them.

Here's a new screenshot:

He looks a little pissed off... I tried to fix that, but I figger, eh, leave it... it adds character.

Snake: Snake~!  I'm happy to see that I have your support on this.  I always new you liked zombies too.

I promise, I will finish this. ;)  Scout's honor!  (he heh he!)  If I don't finish it... you can... uh... shoot me in the foot! ;D

Zuul/Dragonrose:  I know... that was a remark towards the fact that there are no zombies in any of the screenshots... right? ;) jk

I haven't included any zombies in the screenshots, because:
1.  I'm still making all of their sprites.
2.  I'm having trouble programming AI for them.

But it's cool to see that I have your support, too! ;D

I'd say go for it.  I like the idea.

I don't suppose anybody knows where I could download the original, though?  I haven't played that game in years...

OMG! :o  Poetic angst!

JK! ;)

Very good in my opinion.   I liked "Adrenaline", that one made me laugh.

Cool, my first fan!

Well, the story line is really quite simple.  Jim has to find some gasoline somewhere on the premises.  Along the way, he'll run into little obstacles that he needs to over come.  There aren't any puzzles, but you'll need to perform simple puzzle-like tasks, like find a lost key using only little hints, or board up the windows so that you can move freely about the house.  Hiding out in the house is the female character, so you've also got to keep her alive throughout the game.

Olleh!

I've been working hard this last while on a game that I haven't talked about much at all.  I figger it's time to tell y'all about what I'm doing.

My first official AGS game is called "The Dead Walk!"

The story:  "One day, the deceased decide to get up and eat the living.  You play as James.  James has left his home to go to the city in hopes that his family will still be alive there.  So James hops in his car, and heads towards the city.  His car runs out of gas on a lonely country backroad.  Now James has to find some gasoline, to refuel his car.  While searching for petrol in a nearby farmhouse, he must fend off the undead until he finds some gas or is rescued."

I know it's not much of a story, but it's good for a start.  I'm not planning this to be a big zombie epic, I figure it'll end up being about a medium length game.  It's just kind of an homage, to show off my love for zombies and gaming.

Here's some screenshots for you:

As you can see, the graphics are very amateur... I'll do a little tweaking here and there until I'm satisfied with them.  Also, the overall game design is pretty unoriginal... it is somewhat of a Resident Evil clone.  I guess I'm not too concerned about that, though.  What really matters to me, is that it will be fun to play when it's finished.

I originally wasn't going to tell anyone anything about this until it was finished, kinda surprise y'all with it.  But, I figure, why not?  I suppose I could use some support. ;)

I've had at least one person ask if they could help with this, (sorry Fizz) I'm anticipating that there might be others... aside from critique in the critic's lounge, and a little scripting help, I'm want to do this all on my own.  Just because.

I'm guessing that this game should only take me a few months to complete, as long as I don't hit any snags along the way.  Once I get all the scripting out of the way, the remaining artwork, sound, etc. won't be a problem. (as far as scripting, I'm kinda learning as I go)  The game is still in the early stages, though.  So, I guess anything I write here is subject to possible change.

Umm... let's see if I forgot anything... oh, even though the game is very unoriginal, I'm still drawing all my graphics from scratch.  Up in the screenshot you see my custom inventory menu...?  That health indicator is animated and actually works! (heh, sorry, I'm just kinda proud of that one...)

I currently have about five rooms done, and one or two that I'm experimenting with.  According to my plans, there should be about 20 rooms.  There is also at least one other character in the game, a female by the name of Kristin.  I haven't finished her artwork though.

I suppose I might try to squeeze in some time to fix up my site all nice and pretty for this.

Hmm... Am I forgetting anything...?  Do any of y'all have any questions that you'd like me to answer?  Any thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Other than that, I think I'm done here, for now.  Cheer me on, won't ya? :)

Naw... go ahead and use "A Christmas Story"....

I triple-dog-dare ya!

I have dial-up.  I tried to get DSL, and I'm three miles out of range (three miles, thats the end of my road... WTF? ???).  I think it's the same situation for me with broadband.

I'm contemplating getting a T1.
#796
Hmmm... I might be interested in this.  I like Silent Hill.

Yes, yes.  Very nice artwork.  I like the stars on your title screen.
#797
Congratulations to all of you.

I'm sorry I didn't vote, or attend the ceremony... There's always next year!
#798
Yeah, the bigger image has got some tweak lines.

Like Darth and Hillbilly said, there appears to be some frames missing.  That's the only problem.

Other than that, very nice, very fluid.  Good swing in the right arm.

Among the planned features are:

> Support for Direct-X 9 HAL #D-acceleration
> FSAA & Ansiotropic filtering
> Completion of the Make My Gaem Option
> MAC OS Compliance

You've got me there. The real reason I've been away a lot lately is that I've been in negotiations with Microsoft, and they have now agreed to buy AGS for $10,000. They're now employing me to add all these 3D features to 2.7, but have also banned me from creating a Mac port and said that the Linux and DOS ports must be removed.

I feel it's worth it though.

Whoa.  That's news to me.  So what's going to happen to all of us and the forums, the site, etc?  I mean, since you're selling AGS to Microsoft, does that mean that you no longer have any rights to it?

Basically, I just wanna know what lies ahead.  What's happening with AGS and Microsoft isn't a bad thing, is it?  (...that's a stupid question)

EDIT:  I don't know, $10,000 for AGS doesn't sound like much, in my humble opinion...  AGS is the last, what, 9 years of your life?  Eh, I guess I shouldn't be talking, I mean, you created AGS, it's yours to do with as you please.

So is it just going to be computer program, or am I going to be making games on my X-box one day?

Crap... I thought this was a thread about masturbating, and I was about to throw my two cents in...
