1. I erased roger...  I'm really not going to worry about it anymore... If I can just get the scaling to work, then it'll be fine.

2.No, the "ignore room area scaling" isn't on.  I'm positive, I double-checked it.

I solved my second problem.  I don't know how... it just decided to start working.  So I'm sorry for posting it.

Yeah, I suppose this could be moved to the Technical forum... but I guess I'll leave that up to the moderator.

Edit:  Holy crap... the scaling finally decided to start working... so I guess I don't need anyone to help me with that problem either....  hmm... looks like all my problems have been solved.

Thank's for all your help, ladies and gentlemen!

Ok, I downloaded AGS v.2.6.  My resolution problem didn't change, the background is the same, and the characters are still not the right size.  I don't know... I guess I'm not going to worry about this anymore.

But I've got some new problems now...
1.  The scaling in the background editor doesn't work anymore (I set the scaling for the character at 200%, but when I test the game, the character is still the same size).

2.  I have a region over towards the edge of the screen.  When the character walks onto the region, I have a message come up saying "I just came from this way.  There's no reason for me to go back that way.".  Then,  I use MoveCharacter to make him walk off the region to a specified co-ordinate.  This all worked fine with ags 2.56... now that I have 2.6, The message comes up, but then I get an error message saying
"Error: MoveCharacterBlocking: invalid character"
The error message tells me to contact CJ, and that the problem is with the game, and not the interpreter...

Just more problems for you to solve for me...  ;D

I'm using the previous version of ags... v 2.56  I'm going to download the latest version and see if that clears up the problem.

I set the resolution for my game at 320x240.  I also converted it to 16-bit color, so I could upload high color backgrounds and be able to use them.  The only problem I'm having is:
- I drew the background in 320x240
- When I upload the background, it comes up as 640x480.

I also imported a character I was using for another game, just to test it out... the character I uploaded appears too small when I test the game.  Same thing with Roger.  I realize I can only upscale the character to 200%, but it's still not big enough.

Anyone know what I can do?  Did I do something wrong?

EDIT:
I think I know what I did wrong... I drew one of those "panoramic" backgrounds (so that it kinda scrolls as you walk)... so the background is drawn for 320x240 resolution, but the background itself is drawn at 640x240 pixels.

So... any suggestions as to what I can do to keep my background, withouth having to redraw everything?

RE-EDIT:
This is the image I'm using for the background.

...as you can see it is 640x240 pixels.  I tried drawing the character sprites double size, and they came out the right size when I tested the game, but blocky.  I guess I can do a little tweaking in the drawing of the character sprites.  But I'd still like to get some feedback on how to get around my original problem.

Excellent.  Better than I would have done on my own.

Thanks for the help, Darth.

I still have mine, it's sitting up behind the barn, all smashed to hell.  I want to rebuild it... I found a salvage yard where I can get all the replacement panels, radiator & a/c for it for 250$.  I also want to tear out the Tech 4 that it has and drop a V-6 in it, seeing as it has about 170,000 miles on it.  The V6 will give it a little bit of kick, to boot.

Hey, that's awesome.  Thanks for the idea. I'm really bad with shading and light sources, I would've never considered that.

I don't suppose you would mind if I used that pic, would you?

Actually, it's an '89, but yeah it was a good choice.  I loved that car... then I hit a deer with it... *tear*...

Here it is:

I kinda like the way it looks.  I mean, it's not fantastic, but it's good.  Like I said, I'm not worried about how detailed it is and it doesn't need to be a masterpiece, so I guess it's satisfactory enough for me.

I drew the it all in MS Paint, I rotated the sign with GIMP... I'm pretty new to gimp, so I was wondering if there is a way that I can darken the entire image in it...?

Well, I'm going to add some thick woods in the background behind the grass.  Over towards the left side of the screen, I'm going to have the tree line stop, so you will see a pasture and the sky line.  I also added some concrete road in the forground (the way it as you see above, kinda makes it look like it's on a beach)  The image itself is pretty much done... I'm not going to worry too much about shading and stuff like that (I was never any good with shading anyways).  I'm going to go with more orange tones for the sky (I always thought the sky looked cool that way) that and I want it to look like the sun has gone down and all that's left is light coming up over the horizon, kinda like what you see during dusk in the summer. (kinda like the pic on the bottom with the boat)

Gimme about an hour to finish putting the new touches on it, and I'll repost.

I didn't draw this, but...

"MMMMFFF!!"

This is a little background I'm working on.

It's supposed to be one of those backwood roads out in the middle of nowhere...  I'm trying to make it look like it's at dusk, just before the sun goes down (I'm making one for at night too)... and I'm going to try to add some trees in the back behind the grass....

I don't know... any suggestions?  How to make the grass look better?  Anything at all?  I guess I'm pretty happy with the way that it looks, it doesn't need to be a masterpiece, but I'd like some ideas on things I COULD do to improve it...

Come on, Colossal... you're excellent with art... you know you want to comment... ;)

EDIT:
I guess I should mention, that I didn't draw the car all by my lonesome... I kinda cheated on that one... I just took a picture of my old Grand Am and traced over it 'cuz I can't draw cars for $hit.

Also, I'm not offended by Duck owning an Athlon 25000 XP -- Althons are good and easy to upgrade.

No offense, DGM... but Athlon processors suck... I have keep installing fans just to keep mine cool... what am I up to now, 3?

Jekyll/Hyde:
Glad to see at least someone has noticed my tiny efforts... ;) Hehe...

Hell yeah... ever since you posted that morgue background in the critic's forum, I've been wanting to see more.  Even the title has me curious about it.

Viva La Bam is pretty funny, in my opinion.  Steve-o's on Wild Boys, and I think that show can get canned.

That hurts me right here, Colossal...
*points to heart*

Yeah, I guess you have a point... but you can't say they don't all look original.

Wasn't FF6's main character a woman? ...or an esper, I should say...  I saw an ad somewhere, and it looks like FF11's main character is also going to be a woman.

I guess there's some kind of movie being made about Final Fantasy 7.  I saw it on X-Play on TechTV.  It's called, "Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children".  It's all computer animated like "FF:The Spirits Within".  Only difference is, TSW sucked and Advent looks freakin awesome (not to mention, from what I saw, it's all in Japanese at this time).  All I saw in it was Cloud and Sephiroth, but who knows... maybe it'll answer some of the your questions regarding FF7.

Even though, yes, the title "Final Fantasy" is an oxy-moron in it's own right (how can there be 10+ sequels for a game called FINAL Fantasy?), the Final Fantasy series, in my opinion, is really quite brilliant, as far as story lines and other little tidbits go (even though there were a few stinkers in there, like FF8).  But would you really want to play 10+ games all about one person?   ...Or would you rather play 10+ games with separate, original stories, characters, locations, etc?  Each game is a guaraunteed new story.

...Oh yeah, just for the sake of being my smartass self, I have to come up with a question...

"Can I get fries with that?"

LGM:  Your signature is screwing with my mouse pointer... it still functions correctly, I just can't see it when your sig is on the screen... not to mention it's giving me an epileptic seizure... ;)
