Babar edit is a good way to make the intention of making the hills impassable.

Yes, the snow is a bit weird

The "simplistic supermario" bg is cool, but a bit undecorated. Maybe some bushes... or rocks, no? or isn't finished?

I think you need some foreground objects to establish the size of the character. Or some objects along the front of the hills, to separate the distant from the near. Otherwise your character is frankly huge.

But yes, it is improving! :)

Yeah, I have not gotten into any of that.... I understand what you mean though... my next question is, as he moves away/towards the base of those mountains... what's the best way to establish distance.  Or should I just populate the background with some trees and ignore it.

Improving?

They are supposed to be... I was just wondering what they were doing to make them appear that way... as apposed to just making them darker as they go further back...

Thanks, I am okay with it as my first completed game, I can certainly see how I need to add more interactions, I will do any suggested updates before I(IF I) put it on the actual page.

BTW, anyone who posts on this page, let me know if this should go on the AGS games page or not?

What exactly are y'all doing to make those hills seem so "misty" or making them appear to be further in the distance?

Hey, this is a short little game I made with AGS.  Let me know what you think, if the response is good enough here I'll post it to the main site.  But I want to make sure it's up to par before I put it on the website... don't want things getting too cluttered.

Give me any comments and criticism you have.

I am trying to make good backgrounds for my simplistic little sprites

sprite shown here (Image is a 4-up)

I am trying to display that the lighter foreground is walkable area and the hills are impassable...

Any help would be appreciated... I feel I am much more successful with my sprites than my backgrounds.

Very "Calvin Klein ad."

I tried a head bob and thought it was too much for such a small sprite.

should of mentioned that in the thread earlier..

Yeah.. I sort of like my tiny sprites as well.. and they are really easy to work with.

To be honest I don't think you'll ever complete a game if you plan a dozen of them at the same time...

True... True...

However.

These are not all from In-Production games... the only game I have that is currently being developed is Laundry Day... and it's 99.9% complete... just correcting some spelling and it'll be hosted somewhere ASAP.

This is a 2-up and it could use some work... I'm ready for any suggestions.

Not that I am sure I will ever make an AITD AGS game.... but it could be fun.

What if Alone in the Dark was a Lucas Arts or Sierra game?

If you don't know who Edward Carnby is or what Alone in the Dark is... you are missing out on one of the best adventure games ever made.

Better, but his legs are too high when they're to the back.

If you can draw things like that hi-res sprite, why not use that style for your game? It's gorgeous.

Because I am lazy... and if I am having trouble animating the low res sprites... the high res animations would probably drive me mad.

Hey, Kevin Macleod of incompetech.com has tons of music to download that is under the creative commons license.

I use his music for my games, it's all MP3, I suggest giving it a look.

Here is an updated walk anim... the animation tool I am using is messing up the image a little bit... the torso sway is not very good.

Here is the character more in style with my other sprites

And here is a higher Res version

Perhaps like that:

That's a good direction. I'll use that as reference to be sure.

The blond haired blue eyed German look is very intentional.

I was worried they looked a bit "Children of the Corn"-ish

I think someone has actually beaten me too this idea... but I was thinking of making an adventure game based on Hansel and Gretel.

If someone is already doing this I could work on another project... but here are my Hansel and Gretel sprites so I can get some tips on them.
