What model Dell?
#202
I'm not aware of any settings in Windows for that (doesn't mean they don't exist though) so my guess would be it's a setting in the drivers for the touchpad. Open device manager (stick it into the search box on the Windows 7 start bar) and view the properties on any mice or touchpad devices you have and see if there's any additional settings you can change. If that doesn't work find the latest drivers for the touchpad (Dell, Sony etc have specific drivers for each of their computers on their website to download) and install them. I know for a lot of Dell laptops there's an optional driver download for the touchpad which installs a program to let you do things like turn off the pointing stick.

Man, LSP really rocks! Are you planning on making a complete version?
Maybe. I've got another outstanding project to finish first, then I might try and get a more complete demo up and maybe start a GIP thread. I also always intended LSP to be open source, but due to the rush in trying to get it finished in the final few days most of the code is very messy so I don't know how useful it'd be.

If its the same problem that you get with any 256 colour game running on Vista or 7 I've heard a couple of ways of fixing it, such as opening the resolution changing window and leaving it open before starting the game.

The method that works for me is a bit more drastic. Open command prompt and task manager, then on the processes tab in task manager end explorer.exe. Use command prompt to launch the game. When you've finished playing use either command prompt or task manger (file, new task) to launch explorer.exe again.

Alternatively create a batch file in the folder with the game in it containing something like the below to automate it:
Code: ags

taskkill /F /IM explorer.exe
game.exe
start explorer.exe

obviously replacing game.exe with the game's executable name.

Thanks guys! Shame there weren't more entries, but never mind. It was a great theme, someone ought to do it again some time.

Anyway, thanks a lot to Dualnames for hosting MAGS and to AtelierGames for stepping in!

OneDollar Productions present...
Little Simulated People

Download!

Little Simulated People is a demake of The Sims and possibly a homage to Little Computer People, though I never actually played that.

Marketing spiel:
***
Features:
Build mode
Create your Little People's dream house, or construct diabolical mazes where finding your way to the fridge is a serious adventure! Fill your creation with furnishings and appliances to keep the Little People happy.

Genuine artificial intelligence
Little People are smart. They obey orders, but will also satisfy their needs when left to their own devices. A custom pathfinder means they can track down the TV wherever you've hidden it away! Of course if you're a control freak you can also turn the AI off.

Individual real-time statistics
Each Little Person is unique, not only do they have their own name and appearance, they also have their own set of vital statistics to monitor. Little People will prioritise increasing stats that get really low.

Controls:
A lot of stuff is explained in-game, but please read the LSP.txt file included in the .zip for more information.

This is a tech demo rather than a completed game because obviously there's quite a bit more that I'd want to put in but I couldn't do it all in a month. A lot of the major parts are there though, so there should be enough content to have some fun with while getting an idea of what the full thing would be like.

I've been working on this right until the last second (adding in a couple of animations during my lunch break at work today) so while I *think* it's stable I've not tested as fully as I'd have liked to. Let me know any game-crashing type bugs.

Nah, I don't want it. I work to my deadlines dangit :D

Seriously though I need to get it released because I want some free evenings again. I'll put it up later today (maybe in an hour or two).

Though if anyone does want an extension to make an hour/day/two day game and enter, that's fine by me.

I'm still tinkering with an idea... doubt it'll be finished, but I should have a pretty good demo by the end of the month.

I like your drawing style, and several of those made me laugh. Consider yourself RSSed!

*Inspired, OneDollar went off to sketch his own comics thus neglecting his games and going to bed too late again*

Another one was a turn based assault kind of game that reminds me of Fallout.
Only thing that comes to mind is Jagged Alliance, though I'm only going on screenshots because I've never played it. Don't know if it was on Amiga though.

Thanks for the responses. I might see if I can borrow a power supply for testing, or maybe try and get a feel for how hot the card and supply are getting when I start pushing them. Overheating is quite possible as the computer's in an attic that gets very hot over the summer (though I've got the windows open whenever my PC is on).

I'm pretty sure it could burn the power supply itself.

Yeah, that's what I'm most concerned about. I suppose if the power supply burns out I'll replace it with one that has enough power. As long as it doesn't short the motherboard and total the computer at the same time :-\

I got a good-spec second hand graphics card from someone who was moving house and didn't want their old computer. It works really well, but when I push it with games like Bioshock and Fallout 3 on high settings I occasionally get a pattern of small single-coloured squares appearing in front of some textures. They disappear again after a split second. I've tried to screenshot them, but either I'm missing them or they're not showing up on screen captures. In Fallout (where I see them more regularly) I think they mainly appear on objects that are nearer to the screen - for example when talking to characters or looking at the PIP boy. They don't seem to cause any problems with the game, no slow downs or crashes and I've played for hours without any problems. They're just an annoying visual glitch.

Anyway, to try and find the problem I had a look at the power requirements of the card, then the output of my power supply. My supply has a max output of 375 Watts, and the card lists its requirements as 450 Watt or greater (with 75 Watt 6-pin PCI-E power connector recommended).

So my questions:

1) Is the lack of power likely to be causing the glitches I mentioned?

2) More importantly, am I or could I be doing any damage to my computer by running the card in combination with this power supply?

The card is an ATI Radeon HD 4850 (by PowerColor if that makes a difference).

try using OpenDNS as your dns server

Well, thanks, but that needs to sign up. Nervermind, I'll wait tomorrow. Forced holidays! :-) My neighbours can't access the site either.

You don't need to sign up, you just use their two IPs (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) as your DNS. You only need a sign up for advanced things like domain blocking.

Thanks for the critique everyone. I'm working on another game for a week or two, but I'll be back with an edit once that's done. Meantime if anyone's got anything else to add I'd love to hear it.

Critics' Lounge / School character C&C

Hey guys, I spent the morning pixeling this character. He's a school kid and supposed to be towards the more science-y electronics-y end of the spectrum. Not an out and out nerd, but quite geeky.

Regular size...

...and x3...

There are areas I'm not happy with, but I'd love someone else's opinions. Thanks!
