Quote from: Monsieur OUXX on Mon 09/10/2017 08:54:54I'm not available but I must say it's a pity because that's very veryy very pretty pixel art

Thank you very much! I am happy you think so, and thanks for taking the time to write it!

I've gotten a good group of applications already. Unfortunately I got a bit busy with a project at work, but I hope to look at the mails and references and then answer everyone who wrote me at the end of the week latest. :)

Looking for artists and animator for the game
Primordial Prophecy

A bit of intro:
I recently converted my game from high resolution Unity project to AGS, for the simplicity (to actually have a chance of finishing the game) and because I just like working in AGS more (at the cost of some eyecandy).

The intention is to make a game and put on platforms like Steam. I haven't given the economy side much thought. Maybe it will be paid, maybe it will be free. It won't make anyone rich, but it's just one of those things I always wanted to do.

This post is me trying to figure out if there's a potential for a good team to work with, or if I should continue working alone (at least until I have more to show).

The team

I cover programming, writing and project management, and I'm currently paying for art. I'm now exploring the idea of seeing if anyone would be interested in forming a high quality team for the game.

A bit about me:
I'm a product manager ("project leader") in my daily job, but my background is programming with 20+ years of experience. Mostly from web and desktop applications. I love pixel art adventure games, and now it's time to finally finish that dream of making a Point & Click adventure game of my own! I am patient and know this is a commitment of probably several years.
By personality I'm pleasant to talk to and I don't get mad. Even though I can't really do art myself, I'm good at writing detailed briefs and I consider myself able to see what looks good and not. (At the bottom of the post you can see some of the art for the game, which was made based on specifications I made), I also directed the voice acting and edited together the video of the intro (linked later on) based on existing clips and music.

A bit about the "team"
I'm currently officially a one man team. That said I'm paying to have roughly 40 hours of pixel art made each month, along with other stuff for the game. I aim at continuing to do so, so there's constant progress on the game.

Project summary

A bit about the game:
The game will be a space odyssey. It should feel "grand" and will take place across several planets with their own unique feel.

The inspiration for the game is a mix between Quest for Glory, The Dig and Space Quest. It is science fiction, but will have RPG elements as you know it from Quest for Glory.

The game has an intro, from when it was a higher resolution project - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Knywcc2lfVc - My idea is that this will be converted to pixel art later to keep the style consistent.

A bit about the story:
Basically the story of the game starts out with a group leaving earth to colonize Mars. You crash land, and find an old Alien Temple. You accidentally awake the martians, who've been in suspended animation ever since Mars started to die out. The aliens turn out to be evil and want to take over the galaxy. It's time to stop them!

The martians are inspired by Egyptian and Mayan gods.

WTFBBQ I want to join!
A bit about what I'm looking for:
I'm looking for someone who wants to make a professional looking game. Also, of course it's pretty much a requirement that after reading this post and looking at the intro and art, that this is something you think is a great idea.

In my head what role's need to be filled right now is an artist (backgrounds, character, etc.) and an animator (could be the same person). Maybe a good concept artist? If anyone not fitting those roles wants to join, feel free to talk to me as well :)

Below is a preview of some of the assets existing currently. I want to be honest. It's very early days so not much else exist currently. But I expect the pace to pick up quickly, now the game is scoped down to being a 320x200 point and click, instead of high resolution.
At the speed my artist is working on currently, one character, several objects or 1 animation gets finished daily, so there's constant feel of progress to the game development.

Every character part exist seperately, so for example for a character there's a "torso", "head", "upper leg", "lower leg", "foot", "upper right arm", "lower right arm", "hand" etc. existing as seperate sprites. I ordered it like that so it would be simple to animate in an application like Spriter. I thought I'd be able to do this myself, but I think the learning curve to get something good is too steep, if I'm also to do a lot of other stuff (plus having a dayjob, so I can pay for the art). This is not a requirement. If it's easier to make normal sprite sheets, then I think that will probably be just as fine.

So. Anyone interested. Feel free to reply here, or write me on martin@martinmouritzen.dk and we'll see if we have a fit and can work together :)

I think it looks nice, but the problem with making the game in the SQ universe is that it has to look like Roger, right now it doesn't look like Roger, but more like a teenage version of Roger or something.

It looks interesting, I like the backgrounds, and the story.

- Maybe you should change the cursors into robot-cursors? ;)

Good luck! :)

The way he wiggles his arm, he looks a bit... ahem.. gay.

I don't know if he's supposed to look like that? :)

I got Superman Returns and Indiana Jones (the boxed set) on DVD. I also got some money.

I haven't recieved any gifts from my girlfriend yet since she spent christmas at her family and we decided to wait until we were both at home for unpacking our presents from each other. :)

I'm a good programmer/scripter, and I got the stamina to see a game through.

I'd like to work together with a skilled artist, story-writer and musician towards a full-length game. I'd prefer only 1 person for each role (to make sure the game is consistent).

I prefer cartoonish graphics instead of realistic graphics :)

I have my own company which means that some weeks I'm very busy and other weeks I can use almost all my spare time on the game.

If you're interested you're more than welcome to send me a PM.

Every image has a number, look it up in the sprite manager, and use that number as parameter for the function :)

As I wrote in the beginners forum, I want it too :)

Preferably both user.ico and setup.ico :)

I Chose Darth A - It's the most userfriendly.

Not to offend anyone but Klaus suggestion is NOT suited for a site of this type, also it's of a design which is "so 90'ies" - everyone and their dog had that kind of design around 2001 and it's just overused and should be left to die in a cellar with locks on the outside.

IF Klaus suggestion were to be used, it would need templates for subpages too, I can't even imagine wanting to read a longer piece of text in a 150 pixel height window, that's just too annoying.

I really like the screenshots of Loominous though, more professional, it gives the feeling that with this engine  I can make professional games. - And that's also a good message to send. So my choice would be to take Darth A's usability friendly design and merge it with Loominous professional approach.

Regards,
Martin.

Hi Timosity,

Well, I actually think they've got a good chance of succeeding and selling very much, they "just" need a deal with a publisher, and the free remakes could show the potential publishers that there is indeed an audience for these kinds of games.

I guess my point is that I think that the game will have more users if it ends up in lots of stores than when it can be downloaded of the net (even for free).
If you target the right group of people that is.

I haven't checked if it supports 48x48 (even though it doesn't say so), but that would be a request for a feature I'd like to vote for if it doesn't :)

Thank you very much Os àšltimo Quão Queijo ^_^

How do you pronounce that? T.T;Y

Hi people,

Is there some method of defining your own icon for the .exe file? (I can't seem to find it anywhere, and I recall Kings Quest 1 Remake using it, so I must be blind).

Martin.

Beginners' Technical Questions / Re:creditz?

Hi ScummBudy,

Well, I actually looked at that page, and the code tag is nowhere to be found, but thanks for letting me know. :)

IMHO, a better method of doing it is:

Code: ags

int currentID = 0;
int color = 12;
int font = 0;
int centered = 0;
int xpos = 10;
int generateoutline = 0;

SetCredit(++currentID,"Test",color,font,centered,xpos,generateoutline);
SetCredit(++currentID,"Test2",color,font,centered,xpos,generateoutline);
SetCredit(++currentID,"Test3",color,font,centered,xpos,generateoutline);

I don't know how much overhead it takes to call a function (probably next to nothing) but even though I recommend moving most of your code into functions, this is not one of those things :)

Of course, even though you use my version or your version, moving the parameters to variables is always wise, since, if you want to move xpos 2 pixels only have to edit one line, instead of each and every line.

If you really want to use a function for this, I'd recommend something along the lines of:

Code: ags

int currentID = 0;
int color = 12;
int font = 0;
int centered = 0;
int xpos = 10;
int spec_xpos = 50;
int generateoutline = 0;

function addCreditLine(string Text) {
     SetCredit(++currentID,"Test3",color,font,centered,xpos,generateoutline);
}
function addSpecialCreditLine(string Text) {
     SetCredit(++currentID,"Test3",color,font,centered,spec_xpos,generateoutline);
}
function addCreditSpace() {
     currentID++;
}
addCreditLine("I am a credit line");
addCreditSpace();
addCreditLine("I am another credit line");
addCreditLine("I am another credit line");
addSpecialCreditLine("I am so special"); // I noticed the OP (original poster) needed something like
this.
addCreditLine("I am another credit line");
addCreditLine("I am another credit line");

Which is easier to write.

By the way, does anyone know if there's a BBCode equivilant for <code></code> ?

So... Does anyone besides me feel like just stop working, and work fulltime on your adventuregame (even though you'll probably never make a living that way)?

Luckily I'm self-employed, so I can take some spare-time when I feel like it, but still, sometimes I just wanna go to 7-11, buy 40 bottles of coke, 40 boxes of cigarettes, and lock the door to my appartment, with a "Do not disturb" sign outside, and just work on my game :)

(Except, then I wouldn't have an appartment to live in... grrr. - Someone send me a winning lottery ticket)

Hi RickJ,

Nope, YahooGroups doesn't use Usenet... Maybe you're thinking of Google-Groups which true enough provides webaccess to all of usenet.
#19
Hi Noman,

Usenet isn't a website like this one, Usenet is a specific protocol like E-Mail, and you need a specific program to make use of it. - Outlook Express understands Usenet, just setup a "newsgroup" (Under which name usenet is also known) account.

While looking a bit around, I did however find a website (A Yahoo group) which you can use to discuss CAT: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/catventure/

Martin.

So, what you're saying is that the width reported about the sprite is wrong?

I Guess that makes sense, as long as everything is in those coordinates... :)

Funny, I actually stumbled upon a thread while searching related to that problem, I just didn't think it was the same one I had.

Thank you very much :)
