Critics' Lounge / Re: My new sprite

Well, it's not bad. However, I assume he's meant to be human, so there's some definite improvements that can be made in that vein. Here's a couple of quick changes I made:

Compare to the original:

Changes made:
-made hair come down more on sides and rounded it a bit for a more typical and natural look
-added ears
-flipped the face outline (darker outline seemed to be on the lighter side and verse visa) as well as the nose (for the same reasons)
-Made the bottom of the nose a single line, instead of the nostril look.
-bent the arms and shaved off a bit of the shoulders so he didn't look like he was shrugging while his straight arms were in his pockets (in the second picture)
-made the armpit a bit different.
-darkened the lightest skin shade very slightly.
-gave him more of a crotch (in the second picture)

Anyway, save for the arms being moved, there was really nothing major that I did. But I daresay he looks more "normal" now...though if you wanted the sides of his head shaved, you could always keep that.

The legs could still use some work, so they don't appear to curve out awkwardly at the bottoms. I just didn't bother. Consider that there's legs under those pants, and try to visualize where they'd be and how the pants would be draping off of them and that might help.

ANYway, I dare say that the hard work you've been doing is paying off -- this was looking pretty okay. Practicing does wonders, and this it's definitely starting to show in the work you're doing (not that your old stuff was awful -- it's just that you're improving).

EDIT: And for the love o' PETE, please don't go with the "items collector" title. It's bland: it just doesn't have a good ring to it and there's just no OOMPH to it. Even "The Collector" or "Collection" or "Collect" or "Gather" or something would have a better impact as a title.  That's just my opinion, though.

I heard that Campbell won't even be playing Ash.

BLASPHEMY!!!  >:(

Awesome.  ;D

It never occured to me before now, but I wonder if Tintin and Conan O'Brien are related...  ::)

And how cool is it that both of them are great! Cooincidence? I think not!

The sprites are lookin' really good! Not a lame topic indeed.

Critics' Lounge / Re: GUI icon help
Fri 18/02/2005 08:04:21
Well, I've fixed up the fist icon. Let me know what you think.

I'm still open to suggestions for the pocket/ inventory icon, though, if people (besides Evil) think it might be confusing.

A friend of mine said: "To me, it looks like a shield with hair.  Maybe it could be the makeover button?  Send me a bigger pic, & i'll try again."  ;D

So IS the pocket icon easily recognizable in your opinion? And if not, do you have any suggestions on how I might fix it (or change it altogether)?

EDIT: Cripes, someone should TOTALLY make a game that makes use of a makeover GUI button/ option. That'd be freakin' hilarious.

Yeah, the Maxx was a sort of spiritual guide to another character, Julie Winters, and he's sort of travel into a place inside her mind that was dubbed "the Outback". It was Australia-ish, only with all kinds of bizzare creature in it (that weren't even marsupials  ::) ) . While in "the Outback", Maxx was a bit wilder and possed superhuman strength, but in the real world, Maxx was naught more than a big guy in a purple costume that wore a weird mask (that he was worried was alive).

It may not sound like it, but the whole thing was incredibly cool.

His arm looks awfully stiff to me in the side view. Consider letting is bend forwad a bit at the elbow, maybe or even keep his hands in his pockets. You can always take them out when he starts walking.

I wouldn't be so quick to take the book as a negative either. I don't know your parents, but maybe in their sort of "we know, but we don't want to actually SAY anything because we're uncomfortable about it (or they don't want to say anything before you do, even)" way, maybe they're trying to tell you "we know you're gay (or probably are) so if you ever want to TALK about it, then we're here".

Either way, I do think it shows some willingness to accept on their part, even if, in a worst case scenario that it's a "straight up and fly right" kind of response (I can't BELIEVE I actually used that bad a pun just now... I'm so sorry...), at least they're showing that they're not in COMPLETE denial and that they still want what's best for you. If that is the case, all you have to do is have them realize that what's best for you isn't what's best for everyone (yeah, I know it may not be an easy sell, but I think they'd come around eventually).

I hope that some of that made sense.

The part where the actor who played Vader didn't wear his pants and it got caught on film (oh GAWD that's lame!)

NEXT: A screenshot from the ATC if they has but 3 minutes to complete their WHOLE GAME.

Well, I'm not so sure this qualifies as an actual sprite (nor is it drawn in "my style" since I'm not sure I have one that can be qualified as anything but "messy"), but my GOSH I felt compelled to draw it anyway. This is of course, Sam Kieth's MAXX. And if you've not read the series or at least seen the cartoons, then do yourself a favor and find a way to do so. The series is out in trade paperbacks, even, so they shouldn't be terribly hard to find.

...Yup. I'm a geek.

EDIT: Uploaded the right version.

of course, theses tests may not be conclusive. You can be infected with HIV up to 6 months before any tests will pick up

Yeah, I was going to say something about that too, but figured it best that some medical person tell you instead (or thought it possible that you already knew but that it was irrelevant since it coud have been long enough since last possible infection opprtunity).

EDIT: I was sure I had something better to say than that... Seriously.

When I've been drawing objects so far, I've been drawing them as a seperate layer onto my background. Theat way, they're RIGHT THERE on the background where I want them and how I want them. Later I just copy and paste the "object" layers out, import those into AGS and bingo-bango! They're objects and they probably look okay on the backgrounds (at  least, as good as I can make them look).

Just an idea.

ARGH! So many great pictures to choose from!! And all of them so very good! Heck, I even loved the paperclip!

UGH.... Well, I'm going to have to pick one anyway...

SQUINKY!

... phew! Seriously, though, the other entries were awesome. Opo, I LOVED that tomato, too.... but Squinky's still the winner.

Have you tried this multiple times? If not, the plugging unplugging may have led to the computer getting confused and thinking your tablet was a mouse (it happens on occasion with mine in image software stuff, usually when I'm using a bit of both -- the tablet pen will suddenly start acting mouse-like [i.e., without absolute coordinates].).

Otherwise, I have NO idea.

Oh. And it's "Permanent Daylight" btw.

(I'm not a native French speaker, but I'm okay (Canadian French, mind you), so here goes nothing!)

Quick translation:
Will your community be including their games on the "official" AGS games page? I hope so -- we'd probably like to see them too. There will be at least a few people here who will understand and appreciate them.  :)

Good luck with your project! I hope that the French community grows quickly. I wish you great success.

I agree about the words being hard to read. I felt like a retard looking at it that long.

"G-n-l-n...T-r-o-n... Is this even in English?..."  :-X

If NOTHING else and if you're really keen on the design, maybe have like a white lazer animate through and make the middle lines for the A's.

Sitesled's nice, but takes about 24 hours or more to get approved.
