I personally believe that the biggest difference between the prequels and the originals that sets them apart is the characters and how they were portrayed. The charcaters in the originals were just way better, somehow.

Han was awsome. The princess was great. Lando was interesting. Chewbacca was cool. Obi-Wan and Yoda had some great moments. Boba Fett was WAY cool. Jaba was nifty. And Vader was unbelievable! Heck, even Tarkin and Greedo were noteworthy!! (and yeah, Luke was okay)

On the other hand, the prequels don't offer up that kind of greatness. Obi-Wan, Anakin and Qui-Gon (I'm SO sorry if I'm getting any spellings wrong, btw) are okay. The queen and her many costumes is kinda' interesting (but very easy to look at, mind you). Yoda somehow became a bit of a farce. Windu is alright. Jango Fett was sorta' boring. Darth Maul, though VERY cool was too short-lived and didn't get enough screen time. Jar Jar is annoying.

I could go on with each of these, but I believe that the characters are the biggest thing that seperate the trilogies so far (even though there is a lot of other stuff, too).

Anyway, I like this new title okay enough. ANYthing is an improvemnet over "Attack of the Clones", if you ask me.

That's all I got for now.

If that's a bed on the left amd it's supposed to have sheets on it, you may want them hanging over the edge of the mattress a bit.

WATER ELEMENTAL
Most often found nead some source of water, these mystical, water-based beings usually take on the approximate form of a massive, crushing tidal wave, though they have been known to assume other shapes as well. Powerful and unyielding, water elementals are extremely dangerous and unpredictable. Thier motives are completely unknown.

BLOAT
Opinions are divided about Bloats. Some say that they are the zombies of drowned sea captains, others belive that they're copses possessed by demons who stetch their host's skin to accomodate their large evil presence, and others still tell the tale of a nomatic, aquatic race of heavyweights. What's for certain, though, is that they are voracious flesh-eaters of just about anything that moves. Their appetite is only rivaled by their incredible patience, as they'll sometimes wait in one spot, seemingly dormant, for literally WEEKS at a time, in order to snare another victim. Interestingly enough, Bloats never blink.

OGRE (or, if you already have something called an "ogre", then DROG or something)
Thick with muscle, orges are incredibly strong. Thier strength and power allow them to use tree trunk as clubs and hurl large boulders with ease, which they tend to do, as they're easily angered. Thankfully, they're also none too intelligent. This trait however, might just be their most dangerous, as they're easily sawyed by powerful people to become henchmen.

FIRESNAIL
This giant snail, though slow, it a nasty customer. Its protective shell sheilds it against attack, and when disturbed its slime contains a slow-working acid that seeps in through the pores to liquify a body from the inside. Kidney failure usually occurs first, followed by the circulatory system and internal organs rupturing, resulting in a particularly painful death. Those affected by the acid have a small chance of recovery if treated with an antidote early. Firesnails are a peacful species. They are only found near water, as they need to keep their bodies moist, or perish. When properly prepared, the flesh of the Firesnail is considered a delicacy in some parts of the world.

CRIMSON SILF
A large bird of prey. Skilled hunters with razor-sharp talons and long-range vision.

MOONLENS
These mysterious, nocturnal creatures resemble a large hoop with bat-like wings, talons and a rat-like tail. Their most peculiar feature, though is the central portion of their body: a transparent, glass-like "lens" that, when exposed to the light of the moon, seems to be able to be honed into a powerful and harmful energy beam. Nor the exact nature of the beam or of Moonlenses themselves is known. They are a compelte mystery.

UPDATE:

SEPTOPUS
The giant, seven-limbed septopus, though native to the oceans, has been sighted on land for short periods of time (perhaps washed ashore or looking for food). Very intelligent and cunning, it has the ability to jet out blinding ink and change its skin colour in order to conceal itself. Its tentacles' grip is like an iron vice and its suckers have toothy procetions that embed themselves into the flesh of the spetopus's prey, making its hold that much more secure.

GOBLIN THIEF
A pesky creature, goblins can be a force to be reconned with in numbers. Often seeking to gain at the expense of others, many goblins have turned into a life of thievery. These sly brigands are agile and elusive, and due to a diet consisting mostly of rotting meat, have a septic bite that usually cause wounds to become infected or diseased.

GROK
Groks are strong, dim-witted, purple-skinned humanoids that have had a history of poor relations with humans due to their historical use as heavy-laboring slaves. Groks eventually revolted against their human masters in a bloody revolution that left many villages across the continent ruined. Groks have since gone on to form societies of their own, away from human meddling. Their economy still relies partly on human currencies, however, and some of their resouces are still obtained with trade through human merchants.

SQUIDHEAD
Squidheads are magic-using creatures living in or near water, in order to keep their bodies moist (they breathe through their skin, which needs to be in contact with water in order to "suck in" oxygen). They are a very secretive race that mostly keeps to themselves and practice their arcane arts. Though humanoid in form (despite having a squid-like head), their bodies are rarely seen, since they wear cloaks.

WATERSNAKE
Though non-poisonous, watersnakes have needle-like teeth that they use to bite their prey with. Other methods of attack include crushing their prey by coiling around their body.

Did you mean, like, the only house in teh town that can see the sunrise?...
#307
Not sure, but I do know that Homer does a botch job of singing it on the Simpsons in some episode.

And yes, the video rocks.

Bother versions are very nice, but I personally find that the face it a bit too young-looking. It may just be me, though.

Well, first of all, make sure it's actually uploaded somewhere that allows for images to be shown off-site (as in, not tripod or geocities or angelfire), then put the url betwenn tags like these

[ img ]http://siteurl.jpg[ /img ]

only make sure the SPACES are gone inside the tags.

If nothing else, upload it here: http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/upload/upload.html

"they say that it's the only house where you can see the sun rise at morning in the whole country."

This part, I don't understand. Why wouldn't you be able to see the sun rise from any other house?.... Or did you mean something else?...

-tools/ toolbox
-jars of preserved foodstuffs
-freezer
-smoke alarm

On top of what some of the others have said, it might be worth considering have the background animate, to waver the blurryness of it (and the smudgy contour that you seem to want to have going on there). It might help add to the overall "haze", dreamlike kind of effect.

Oh dear. Is that you in a straight-jacket, Haddas?

Well, I did this quick and I'm not sure if I'm getting the effect I want... but as far as being a bit more hunter-like and less straight-up stiff, here's what I have for an idea:

-CHANGES-
A pretty big overhaul, including:
-a new posture
-re-shaped head a bit around brow ridge, jaw and neck area
-added shading under eyes for the evil look
-made mouth longer and less happy-looking

Anyway, it's just an idea. If I was animating this, I'd make sure that it looks like there's a bit of body rotation going on while walking (by moving the arms at the shoulder back and forth a bit) and have his walk a bit on the slow side. But that's just me.

It may also be a good idea to make the far limbs a bit darker for better contrast once its animated. I'd have to see it in action to be sure, though.

EDIT: As for your original sprite, I think that what doesn't work for it, more than anything, is that there needs to be at least one a couple more frames in there so that when the leg goes to the "back" position that it doesn't just whip back there. If there's to be any skimping on frames, you may as well do it for the leg snapping FORWARD, as it'd probably look more natural that way.

First, I'd like to thank Tiki for picking my Ash sprite for the last jam, when REALLY, I was obviously out of my league in the skill department...

ANYway, on to this week's Sprite Jam!

This week's topic...

"THE LOCAL WEIRDO"

Well, pretty much wherever you live, I'm guessing that you have one of these... only if you live in a larger population center than I do, there may be many.

What I'm talking about is that local person who, in some way or another, is a bit... "off" for whatever reason. They may be an unmedicated schizophrenic or just plain weird, but just by looking at this person, you know there's something different about them.

Generally speaking, since I can't think of a more polite word to use, I'm looking to see "the local weirdo" .

Just as an example, I think of one of our local oddities of the past: a guy who went a bit loopy called Marco. Besides a generally unkempt appearance, Marco would ride around downtown on his bicycle wearing his Speedo, a woman's wig, and any other possibilty of accessories, from a scuba mask and snorkel to a cape to flippers on his feet, to carrying around a toolbox. A good guy overall, but with a few screws loose (for anyone who cares: he seems to be doing a whole lot better these days for some reason -- I suspect he's finally taking some meds).

This is the kind of person I want to see here, whether or not its based on someone you've seen before (or know... or ARE!): A "local weirdo" character that could fit into a game -- the more obviously odd, the better.

OTHER DETAILS:
Resolution: please keep it of a reasonable size.
Colours: 256 or less

This is my first jam, but please try to have fun!

EDIT: To maybe help jog the thought process, here's a quick drawing of Marco, as I remember him.

Forgiven (by me, anyway... I can't speak for anyone else  ;) )... PROVIDED that you go out and rent or buy Evil Dead 1 & 2 and Army of Darkness. It's for your own benefit, really.  ::)

I think I played either Rob Blanc 3 (WHY I started with part 3, I have no idea... it's so contrary to how I am) or Permanent Daylight.

And I still have nothing to show for it.
#319
No idea -- I'm just saying that she seems to like the adventure genre a lot, and that may factor into the equation.

Maybe it would be a good idea, if a person who doesn't know the song in question, that they could make up a song of their own to sing that would have the same title (I say this, thinking of the "stump the band" segment that they sometimes have on Lettermen).

It might make this a little more randomly crazy, like the Paint competition (and solve the potential problem of winners picking fairly unknown songs).

Just a suggestion, though.
