Well, the ONLY thing that worries me about all of this is that it'll be so ambitious an undertaking that parts of the game will be severly lacking and/ or that it just won't live up to all the glorious hype that's behind it.

The potential that the online component of it has to make the game that much greater is so very, very cool. And that it'll all be pulled off as a munch of algorithms and such... wow. I really, REALLY hope this'll be all it's cracked up to be. It has such tremendous potential... then again, so did Fable. And though some said it was good and all, from what I understand (never played it yet), it didn't exactly do everything that they were saying it would.

Spore, though, sound like it might be very near completion somehow... so could it really BE all they're claiming it to be. Time'll tell, I guess.

Ugh. Why is it the older I get, the less and less confidence I have in Healthcare? I swear, if someone ever wanted to be the ruler of their country, all they'd have to say for their campaign speech would be:

"If you ever go to the hospital and they fuck up, you get to kick the person responsible and someone who assist them in the crotch."

People would ask, of course, why that assistant gets the kick to the 'nads too, and it's just so they keep the people who are supposed to be responsible for helping you on their toes.

Thank you, Iqu -- I've always found that most of my big inspiration come in moments where I'm either stupidly tired or when I'm dreaming. It's why I always carry a notebook in my back pocket and why I have another beside my bed.

So my advce? Stay up a lot longer than usual sometime (doing something else, of course), then sleep for a good, long time.

NICE. I've been loving the stuff you've been doing for this game that I've seen so far -- it's SO close to what I'd like to be doing for one of the games I'm trying to work on. A tutorial of what you do would be just DANDY.

As far as the sketch, well, I find that her face ha changed shape a bit, and that helps make her look significantly older, too.

How 'bout  MAN-EATING PLANT!

For this Jam, the theme is "Chimeras". The Chimera was, of course, a mythical Greek beastie that was a combination of a lion, goat and snake... there are different representations of them out there, but the one I'm most familar with looks something like this:

Oh, just do a Google Image search if you're not happy with that!

ANYway, what I'm looking for is a chimera of your own creation -- that is, combinations of at least three animals (and a max of, let's say, six) -- just make sure you don't use the lion, goat and snake, ESPCIALLY not in the comniation listed above. Your new animal should have recognizable characteristics of each animal that it's composed of and hopefully the combination will result in an interesting/ cute/ amusing/ cool-looking new creature. Also, try to make it something that would be reasonably easy to animate, if you were to do so for a game (i.e., nothing TOO overly complex, I guess).

Size restriction: 300 x 300
Color restriction: None
Animal restriction: A combo of between three and six animals of your choice

And most importantly, have fun!  ;D

Dammit. I guess I'll just have to go there and meet him, then, and put this mystery to an end...

What? You DID see some of those other entries right? Right?!  :P

Anyway, thanks for the nod, khrismuc. I don't envy your position in having judged this Jam at all: I fear my head would have exploded if I'd had that reponsibility.

I'dd also like to know what the deal-e is with "Frankenstein: King of the Moon".

I'll see what I can do for a next Jam.

I'm not getting a very spooky vibe from what I'm seeing here. It  has potential to be, but it doesn't SCREAM spooky or anything, IMO.

What I'd do is use those lights to their full potential, making sure they actually ACT as light sources in an otherwise dimly lit subway. One or more could even flicker (though I'm not sure how to do that myself, in terms of adjusting the lighting in regards to a character in-game... still, if you COULD do it, it'd be some sweet).

Not so sure I can help with the rails, though (sorry).

Holy CRAP! That thing's description sounds AWFUL!... So awful that I want to see it!! Then I saw the picture and I'm SURE that I saw a copy of it either at Wal-Mart or at the local video rental store. Hoo boy...

Thanks for this, man.

AFAIK, it is -- it's called the "One Volume Edition", according to that Barnes and Noble link, as well as the one I have right here. Unfortunately. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there'll be any more Bone books.

If you feel like doing a little digging to figure out the definitive answer, though, you could always check out the official website: http://www.boneville.com/

[EDIT: Hey no prob. I do  what I can to help.]

General Discussion / Re: The new Looney Toons

The thing is, though I doubt it will be, what if the cartoon ended up being okay? I remember thinking that THESE ideas were crazy at first too, but they all ended up being alright:

-Tiny Toon Adventures
-Batman Beyond
-Muppet Babies (okay, so I was a little kid, k?)

Still, I think that  the "revamping" of this characters is just awful. But, as already stated, no way can it be worse than "Space Jam" or "Back in Action" or whatever it was called (I once had a roommate who used to think that Space Jam was great...  :'( ).

Hoo boy, taken out of context, that sounds pretty funny.  ;)

Any self-respecting comic book store is likely to have some of the softcover collection books around (the collect multiple issues of the original run). And Scholastic's re-releasing some of the collection books IN COLOR and they look freakin' sweet. It's not a sure thing that they'll be publishing the whole series yet, though.

Alternatly, if you're comfortable with online shopping, they shouldn't be too hard to get ahold of, I'd guess.

Considering that the softcover collections go for around $10 or so US, though (there's nine total, I believe) and that the softcover one book COMPLETE SERIES can be bought for probably under $50 (quite a lot less, in some cases, as in the link I posted above), I'd say splurge and get the big COMPLETE SERIES book. You'll devour it like it's nothing, but that's only 'cause it's so gosh-darned good.

I also have a vision of the owl from The Secret of NIMH. But it's creepy, with glowing eyes. Maybe not what you're going for at all... but dammit, I was some impressed.  ;)

If the pic doesn't show, copy and paste this link:

I second what Scummbuddy said and also add a third point: you may want it to be more easily scalable (i.e., have detail that preserves well when you make it bigger or smaller).

I'd also like to say that the owl in your logo, as it is, doesn't make me think of the "impressive" part of the "Impressive Owl" (no offense). Now, this is just me, but I'd have it doing a magic trick or shooting laser beamsout of its eyes or somesuch. But again, that may just be me (I know that I'D think it was impressive, anyway). Otherwise, I'd go for something meaner, more streamlined and more aggressive-looking.

I'm not sure how close to one you are, but I wholeheartedly reccomend trying to get a job working at a hostel. The clientelle (sp?) is usually VERY nice and since they tend to be world travellers, they tend to have a little bit more or a sense of responsibility, independance and compassion than the average customer.

I worked two summers at one and it was a hoot.

Plus, there are a fair bit of girls who travel that are from Japan (well, I'm in Canada, and of the people we'd get, most were either from Australia, France or Japan), so your knowledge of Japanese stuff will be a bonus.

If you did make this sort of scene into a game, I'm just not sure how easy it'd be to keep up the people's shadows the way you havethem here. Unless it's a cutscene, which would be fine.
