You are welcome Thomas, you deserve it.

But now I feel really stupid. How do I unlock the extras? I have the code, but where can I enter it!?

Finally!
My copy of the game arrived today!!
And I played it through from beginning to end with nearly no pause and no help at all!

But first, two questions: First, why are the pictures still locked after the game (but I get sent to them after the credits!?)
Second, where can I enter the code which I get at the end?

Okay, those two things were probably the only things that annoyed and confused me.

The rest was exceptionally well done. I think the last time I was so moved by a game was with Syberia. And this is saying a lot since this was a very emotional experience which moved some people to tears.
[edit]I think much of the emotional impact comes from the music. You definately should hire this guy again! Thomas is great!![/edit]
It is MUCH better than Legacy. I liked that one, it was nicely made, but not a game I would play again. Somehow, it didn't seem very special. Maybe because it was the start of the series, maybe because the case wasn't so interesting and the ending a bit....weird. Or because the relationship between Rosangela and Joey wasn't so full of tension like with Lauren. It's a classical love-hate thing.

And of course, Lauren's character itself seemed, mhm, much more "real" than Angela. The two ashtrays for the kitchen alone made her feel like a real character. She just follows her destination, but isn't enthusiastic about it.

I could go on and on with the praise. The wonderful music, which was also well implemented. I liked it when the piano player suddenly hit the keys hard and dissonant and wanted you to leave.
Also, wonderful end track.

There are some bugs I noticed. I'm not sure if they were reported already. If you use the lighter on the cigarettes while Lauren is already smoking the following line will appear:"878 I'm already smoking one." No voice file is played with it.

Another thing: When you ask "C" about the C-Sharps he will say "Positive" at one point.
The weird thing is that the text appears not over his head but somewhere more right and to the bottom. No voice file is played either.

[edit]Also, sometimes the voice actors blow a bit in the micro. It's rarer than in Legacy, though.[/edit]

Oh and I have to thank you that you implemented an autosave feature. At one point I minimized the game to look up a word I didn't know. Sadly, AGS doesn't react well to it. First it skips ultra-fast through the dialogue and then it just hangs itself in an endless wait loop.
Thanks to autosave I didn't have to waste a minute with replaying!

Personally, I only buy a game for the story and the gameplay and not for the graphics either.
But usually it is mentioned how impressive the graphics look.
#124
Oh, I certainly don't ignore music.
But then, I'm a musical guy anyway.

There are some soundtracks which really stand out, and usually I remember the name of the composer.

KQ6 - Chris Brayman
Monkey Island - Michael Land
Outcast - Lennie Moore
Gabriel Knight - Robert Holmes

Many Lucas Arts soundtracks are from Peter McConnell.
So, I don't think they get ignored.
But yes, they don't seem to get mentioned. Maybe because they're not considered important. Maybe the reviewer thinks that most people will only care about graphics and gameplay!?

Also, some games feature only ambience tracks. You shouldn't notice those, they just create the atmosphere.

Nah, the end boss must be a pixel with the same color as the background. An invisible one!  :)
I'm not sure if it would retain its therapeutical effect, though...
Maybe make it a BIG invisible pixel.

Well, just a stupid idea of mine. ;)

You're all a bunch of losers!
I finished the game before I even started it!!

Sound also interesting to me.
I think in Starship Titanic you could type whole sentences, right?
I'm thinking about an advanced dialogue system, but it would be probably keyword based...
Whole sentences need some time to type and there will always be errors and misunderstandings.
Facade, which was all about the dialogue, was still very broken.
But it's definately not time wasting.
I'm not sure if it's the right way. On the other hand, maybe there haven't been given enough thought about this system.

Completed Game Announcements / Re: GAK

I'm not sure what I did...
Actually I didn't understand a thing.
I took more time to go through the hassle of downloading than playing/watching it.

Of course, it's a joke game....but it's french!!! ;)

Could you just upload it somewhere else next time, please?
Somewhere where I don't have to go through two captchas and than wait additional 45 seconds!?
For examples, there?

I think the background and the sprite are very nice for the short time you needed to make them. :)

This game is very fun, actually.
The dialogue is good, the humour works, the backgrounds look nice for me.
Also, really good voicework. I especially like the witty voice from the Raven.

I didn't play far. For one because I don't have much time at the moment and because the game has still some irritating bugs.
For example the intro dialogue. Nearly every line from this ugly witch (or whatever) is cut off towards the end.
Also, often her talking animation continues endlessly until you press the mouse button. The same is with the shopkeeper.
Some walkbehinds aren't properly set, especially while you are going up the tower. In the middle, while the raven is on the left of it, it can look like he is going through the wall and is partly behind and before the sky.

Also, personally I didn't like this enormously big mouse cursor that appears when you are hovering over an exit.
Another thing that bugged me a bit was that some voices were louder than others.

The basic is right so far. It is very fun. But some polish is missing. :)

I like the "Rock" theme. Very simple, but also very fun. :D
I wish you much luck with the project!!

I wasn't even born when that game was released

say no more! people will hate me for this but - I dont deem people worthy of judging these games if they werent around at the time of the original release, as their views are tainted but what passes as a decent game these days. Its like me judging pac-man or space invaders. I was in nappies(diapers for americans) when they came out so who am I to judge them for their original value?

LOL!
Actually, I think Pacman is still enjoyable to this day. And I also like the old Infocom classics while most of them were released before I was born.
But the first KQ1 didn't age very well in my opinion.
I could say myself that you are just victim of nostalgia and that's the reason why you can't have a neutral view of these games. That might be the reason.

You should have uploaded the game executable and winsetup.exe, best in a compressed archive.
Basically, the files in the "compiled" folder.

#133
QuoteSounds like this game could be a contender for the P3n15 award.

Nah.
I think Alliance would feel offended then. ;)
#134
I'm still interested in the team competition, definately.
It's a unique chance to learn to design a game in a team environment and under pressure like in a professional way.
Not that I plan any commercial releases. ;)
Of course, the game is also important.
Someone said that the time for this contest was too long.
I think it's understandable that only a few would be able to ensure enough free time.
But personally I think that anything under 4 weeks would defeat the purpose.
The team has to get to accustomed each other, they have to get the feel of teamwork.
Ah, I don' know.  :-\
#135
Ehm, is this game finished?
Because then this thread should be under "Completed Game Announcements".

But it looks like a fun game. Maybe I play it later. :)

Edit: I see that you only uploaded the game executable. That's a problem because I would need the winsetup.exe to change the resolution. It doesn't work in 320x200 for me!
I can change it manually, of course. But this isn't exactly userfriendly, is it? ;)

QuoteIt would make most sense to wait until December, when most people have free time.
Though it sounds a bit pessimistic, I'd rather start ATC now and set deadline for December or something... This case, if someone bails out, other team members have atleast enough time to mop things up...

Also, instead of waiting "something to happen", we should have competitions like this going on all the time. So even at worst, new games would be still popping out occassionally.

It certainly would make the competition more sucessful if it would happen when most people have time, logically.
Maybe it also would be a good idea to wait for the 2.8 release of AGS.
The support for a version control system may make team work much more easier and less a mess.
Someone would need to host those, though.
#137
I think a team name and logo shouldn't be necessary or even encouraged.
The first two days would be just about figuring those out.
Something like "Dave Gilbert Team" would have been enough, I think.
#138
When I look at those rules then I think that they should have helped to get things done in time.
For example, showing off a screenshot and giving a plot synopsys is something to work towards to.

Instead of giving a progress report in the last week it might be a better idea to have already a completable build done by that time, so the last week is there for fixing things (a progress report might be an optional thing, though). This would add to the pressure for one and the games would be in a mostly bug-free state.
Both winner games of the past competition were just released after additional features were added and bugs resolved.

Overambition was a big problem of the competition in 2004. Too many rooms and a plot that was too extensive. In one team the story wasn't even written to the end. It also seems that leadership and organisational planning were lacking, both things which shouldn't be underestimated.
This competition is all about working in a team and meeting deadlines.
I guess this sounds tiresome, but it also is the idea, in my opinion.
#139
Yeah. Since it is less a game and more an interactive story it isn't very interesting for non-french speakers.
But the graphics and animations are very nice!
#140
Man, you all sound mean.
Obviously he has some significant problems with the english language, but still wants to show off his game.
He shouldn't be discouraged for that.

On the other hand, he could have posted some screenshots.
And I'm not so sure if the game is in an appropiate state to belong in this forum....

@bigote gamba: I think it would be better to ask for beta-testers and translators before you release it as a completed game.
You still have to complete it yourself, though.
