Well, I guess that he will neither make a cut nor a fade to black, instead it will be one big scrolling image.
Oh, yeah, by the way, great background, I'm really jealous. But you should really move on to the next one!

Advanced Technical Forum / Re: AGS 3D

Well, I found a bug: When I look at an angle where the green pyramid stands before a blue box, a side of the blue box is still drawn before the pyramid when I look at it from a specific height and angle.

Proof:

Right Darth, it's made with Torque, I remember this from the chat.

Also, I actually didn't know that AGS can handle 3D scenes, a hidden feature?  ???     :o     ;)

Why is there actually a big lack of updates on diygames.com? The last entry is from 28th June.....

I guess he wants that we crit this animation.

For me it looks like you wanted to animate a transformation of Simon into a cat, but it looks more like he melts down and then the cat is visible that seemed to stand behind him.
That the transformation looks believable I think Simon must shrink down to the size of the cat, get thos black hairs and the form of the cat and then be it. Oh, and the melt/transformation animation was way too slow, you should speed up the framerate, hm, the same with the jump of the cat, which looks kinda neat by the way.

May I ask which program you used?

hm, for me the download link doesn't work, it seems broken.
Can somebody else confirm that?
I would like to play it.
#227
You call this a game? Well at least you had to invest one mouse-click!

It was very funny however! There should be made more "films" like this with AGS.

Maybe Irfan View works with JPEG2000 then. Like I said I never noticed differences.
Because I didn't want to believe it what you say I just made a test. I converted a bitmap into JPEG and then back again into BMP.
I compared them with the comp command. It found 10 differences. (The picture size was 400x527x24BPP)
Made the same with PNG. The result was that they are identical.
Hm, so I think you must be right. JPG seems now pretty useless for me.

Sorry for being off-topic again.

With that you can convert the BMPs into JPGs without quality loss. It's also a neat picture viewer.

Hehe, there's no way to convert to JPEG without any quality loss := , but IrfanView probably uses better algorithms and since you have control over the compression level, you may get a less noticiable result.

My advice is you may try converting them to PNGs (that's lossless), and only if the PNGs are still too large you should convert them to JPEGs.

Actually it is possible when you set the quality level on 100%. I often convert pictures in JPGs but when I have to edit them with Paint I have to convert them back and they are still exactly the same (I can tell that of course only from very small images, like a sprite, so this probably not a good proof then, but I never found any differences even after many times of converting)

I think this belief that there is no possible way to convert a bitmap into JPG without loss comes from Paint, because it doesn't get it right.

By the way, the sketches look also great!  :o

I recommend you Irfan View!

You craft this background only with Paint as tool? I can't imagine that! Even otherwise these backgrounds are much more than very good. I love Woodruff, I think I should play it again...
It's nice to see that not everyone orientates their design on the usual suspects like Monkey Island and King's Quest....

The new recording of this song is up:
http://www.fileupyours.com?nr1(new_version).OGG 1,73MB, 1:54

I played it a bit slower overall, I think the song benefits from that. But besides that you can hear sometimes that I don't hit the keys correctly...  :-\
There are also some other notable changes.
Personally I like this version much better.

I'll await criticism!

Just wanted to say that I would recommend you Ghostlady to replace the default GUI with one that you have drawn yourself. You can then create a patch with Patch Maker for example. I think this problem is very easy to fix and would convince those people to buy it who think caused of this that not enough effort was put into the game or that it would disturb the experience.

Think about it.

I search games from HT Software. The most famous game of them is Syndicate 2049.

Sadly, the of them site has shut down and is replaced by a real company.

The list of those games is here. I hope someone has them, I searched them already for a long time, but had no luck so far.

Hm, recently I'm playing the song a bit slower and more at a steady tempo,  also I gave it some kind of intro (there's no new melody, though). Maybe I will make a new recording on monday and upload it then.

But actually I don't understand what you mean with more dynamically. It's not a song which would benefit when I would vary the tempo very much, I only could play the middle part a bit slower and calmer.
Normally my songs are very dynamically, this one is a bit different of the rest.
#235
Whoa!
I just realized that you're graphical skills are so much better now. It's a huge difference of quality when I compare them with backgrounds of Frank The Farmhand 1 and even 2!
I'm excited about this game, I hope it will grab me more than Frank!
#236
I think you mean a metronome...
...I know, a friend of me tells me quite often that I should use it, but it wouldn't work for me because I like to be dynamically with the tempo.

It was just that I was a bit upset at the time of the recording because of the many problems occuring with the computer and not having much time. But I always tend to get fast.
#237
Hm, I post for quite some while more or less regularly in this forum so I thought I should present my abilities a bit.
This is a quite short song from me played on piano, the length is about 1:28.
I have sometimes problems to hit the keys properly, I think you can hear that. I also get a bit fast towards the end.

Don't want to say too much negative, I just hope you like it!  ;D

HM, the demo plays nice.
Actually, I don't know much too say.

I should better start with the contra:
I'm sure that you plan to implement some more animation into the game.
In battles everything was so static, because you didn't see the attack performed. That was irritating. You said that not all options are implemented so far, so I expect that ther will be more possibilities in battles when you get more items, learn more spells and so on. It should be possible to change the weapon in a battle, even when it costs a round.

I personally would add to the battle mode combat points and the possibility to move. So you would need some points to go to the creature and perform the attack in close combat and points for the different attacks.

The game is also in need of some animated close-ups of the character. It feels so static and strange when the whole time nothing seems to happen but in reality you are talking to someone.

What I liked very much that things wer colored of the sketch when they were marked or you went with your mouse over it.

Hm, nice music, too. Fits in the background and doesn't distract, so it does its job.

Wow, I just have to say that the graphics are amazing! Especially the screen with the fridgerator is awesome. It doesn't look to slick, not too realistic, but also not too comical. I think I would fall alone in love with the game because the graphics. I like them more than the ones I saw so far from Rise of the hidden sun (I don't mean that they are better, but I like them better).
I think it's a good idea to choose a first person perspective. I always wanted to play a game in that way but with a real story (I mean, 90% at least of adventures in that perspective are only Myst clones). And the sometimes tedious walking falls flat with that too.
Well, I only hope that the gameplay can hold up with it. But when I look at the graphics again I see that you seem to possess enough creativity, and the story outline also reads nice.

Hm, I can wait for a great game, but however, I hope that you will get it done this year. Good luck with it!

1gb a month isn't much... I haven't heard of a download limit worse than 1gb a day.

How's about 10GB a month?
You, don't live in Europe, right? However, I only speak for Germany....

And other than that, I think it's strange how much the MSN messenger needs. I mean, would it be 338 bytes a minute doing nothing, okay, but every second? For what does it need this? I think we all now that Microsoft is a bit dubious, maybe it's just the size it needs to spy...but I don't want to go in conspiracies now.

I see that it affects on the speed which is already very limited with a 56K modem....better just remove it. I actually just deactivated from the startup and I never saw it again....
