AGS Games in Production / Re: KOR remake
Sat 11/06/2005 15:32:04
I downloaded the old version and realized that I had played it already a long time ago. I didn't play it for long though, didn't hold my interest.
But I hope that your remake will do, it shows promises. And yes, the graphics are much better. Good luck!

AGS Games in Production / Re: Rapstar 1.5

The idea is pretty nice and has some potential, but it all depends on the realisation. And actually, when I look at the screens, I don't get very convinced that it will get good. Otherwise, you could really be just very impatient in the graphics department but at the same time some kind of scripting god.
However, I would suggest you to set this game in the RON universe when you already use the character sprites. Not only would it would be a bit irritating otherwise, but also because RON games get very rare in the last time. I have the idea that it would be nice to see some RON characters battling each other in that rap contest (like the chicken against the Baron, or Davy Jones against Captain Mostly, something that comes to mind spontaneously) to demonstrate the dislike against each other.
Hm, whatever.

Oh, and about rap as music: It's true that 99% of it is shit nowadays, but I think Outkast and Beastie Boys stand out with quality in the mainstream.

General Discussion / Re: my friendz lesbian

i'm guessing this girl is the same age as you? 13? well, her hormones are probably tearing her apart right now, and any decisions about sexuality are not to be taken seriously. I know plenty of girls who thought they were a lesbian, and even had girlfriends when they your 14-15, but now they know they're not. Its probably just hormones. But if its not, well, theres not much you can do about it, all you can do is be a good friend.

I actually was already very sure about my sexuality at the age of 13, and  that as a boy. It's normally said that girls are 2 years ahead of boys in growth in that years, well don't know.

But it's true, I chatted with a boy a long time ago, he must have been 14 (i was 15 at that time), who thought he was bisexual, but later he meant that it was really just a phase. But maybe he only wanted that I stop flirting with him.  ;)

Yeah, it's a nice game with puzzles that fit as whole in the game world.

Of course I have some critics:
You often have to run around and look wether something has changed.
The graphics doesn't look bad, but lack an own style. I think that's caused of the effects and filters and howevers you used on them.
Well, that kind of story is not really something to be excited about, pretty old.
The character protraits need some animation!

But there are also definately pros:
The walkcycle looked pretty good! Overall, the character animations are very well done.
OH yeah, and the atmosphere. I don't know wether it is intentionally or not, but I feel very lonely while playing this game. I personally love this in a game. It also make confrontations with NPCs more exctiting.

Wow, Space Quest III, the only sierra parser game I played through. Honestly, EGA wasn't already really bearable for me (though I don't have problems with them anymore) and then those idiotic controls? How often I hate to guess the word...I played the german translation but with a english walkthrough but the exact words translated into german didn't work often!!
I played it with walkthrough non-stop, it had some fun moments, though I though it would have been much better with mouse controls....

So this remake makes sense, huh? Well, I only hope you get it right and transfer everything from the original into the remake.
I'm curious how you plan to make the arcade sequences...

Hm, look here under "insert image".
You can find this help always over the smilies when you write a message.

Edit: Oh I forgot completely about it, the idea of smutting the room where you get the strangeformed key was a nice one, not a bad effect!

I like those sketches very much, have style, wouldn't be bad if they were also in the final game (I think). The map screen is also nice, though the characters and the town icon stick out there.
The battly and level up screen look weird. There are so many graphical styles crashing together.
All in all, looks promising!

I played it for a while. I would say that the graphics are the best. I think they have their own style and are mostly pleasant to look at, though the walkcycle is jerky. Additionally, you can see of the pictures that you sometimes used textures and drawed just over them a bit - it doesn't really look good, a bit cheap sometimes. <Don't know how to express me properly>

The plot is, well boring. It's stupid, but not silly, just not funny enough, and otherwise not too serious to grab, you can't take it that way, besides it's very unimaginative, what's the worst about it. His dreamworld is very banal, actually not a dream worth minding about. The best thing was maybe the light tunnel at the beginning. It doesn't seem that you had any interesting ideas and just glued some screens together. The puzzles give me the same impression. Not more than key searching.
Well, I see it more as an test game, as that it must be more worth to you than me, you learned to create a walkcycle and backgrounds, and got some scripting experience. And I think for a first game it's not that bad at all, there are worse.

But it's not really worth playing because the design is very, let's say unspectular. Just walking around through empty screens, nearly no items to take, puzzles to solve or things to look at. That's the thing you should most work on. Better lay out a story first before you start with the next game.
Graphics are okay, but they could get really great! Don''t set too much on the cheap effects of Photoshop, my opinion.

This critic sounds maybe harsh, but don't let you put off. I think you can do much better. I'm awaiting your next game!  ;)

Oh, by the way, you should screenshots post here and the download links. Most people are too lazy / don't want to waste time searching for them.

Yes, I'm very sure because I deleted every possible command in that room!!

Edit: I'm going to draw a new walkbehind, don't know how to continue else with the game. At least you know of the problem!
#251
Well, I found a strange bug and I suppose it's caused only in AGS 2.7 because I never had it with AGS 2.62.

Well, it's actually a simple problem, I have 4 objects in my room, but only two show up! I can do what I want, delete all the script that is concerned about the objects, didn't work, deleted all the objects and created them again, it was still there. Even more strange is that it were always the same objects, more precisely, only the same pictures, because the objects numbers were different the next time.

Then I just created a new room with everything the same, the same background and objects, and it worked.

Oh, I forgot to say, "object is initially visible" is on.

I would just use the new room, but I don't want to draw the walkbehinds again....it was quite some work!

Spoiler

I first thought that the thing with the lightswitches in the second room is a bug because the left went also out without a word and I couldn't get it on again. It would have been certainly better when you would have gave the player a hint that it's caused by the fuse (don't know how to express that)
Another thing. You wrote ,,Milk Droor" instead of ,,Milk Door".
Nothing why you should bring out another update yet.
But you could fix some things with walkbehinds and walkable areas, because sometimes you  see Silly half in and half out the wall. This comes especially to mind at the hole above the trampoline.
When I tried to get a screenshot of this (it was too hard, I gave up  ;) ) I found another, very interesting bug. When you try hard enough at this rope above the trampoline, I think you have to move a bit to the right, you stand in the air outside of the castle wall! When you go at the right you will come like you would later to the island of the witch! You have to try bit, get up and down on this rope, but I could reproduce this bug! So, these are enough arguments for another update, right?  ;)

Seems to be a bug:
Spoiler

When you throw the rock into the machinery while the gate is down you lose the rock. But when you press the button the gate goes up and you can't get it down again because you don't have the rock anymore.

Besides that, I think I love the game (also I normally don't like puzzle-intensive adventures!)

Space Mutiny
I nearly died laughing. Especially great is a scene where they tried to think how people would dance in the future - well, with hulla-hoops!!! And the color of the lasers change countless times! The machine room of the spaceship looks very much like the inside of an old factory and the commander looks like Santa Claus!
Oh, I forgot, there are TWO commanders on the ship, and they have both armys, and they are fighting each other - oh, but watch some pretty neat space battle scenes - from Babylon 5!!

This movie is the pure pleasure, I bought it for 1.60 â,¬ - nah, not really, the postal costs were 3.00 â,¬ on top!

I haven't downloaded the game yet, but realized that in the first screenshot stands "Ken sent me" written on the wall.
That made me wonder, do you know this video ?
Or do just meant the entrance code in Larry 1? The name of the video is by the way the only link to LSL....

Completed Game Announcements / AVP Screenshots
Sun 08/05/2005 13:35:13
Because this guy seems to be unable to post some screenshots even with advice I thought I should do it for him, I don't know why, I'm just bored!
So now, look at this magnificient pictures:

It's a non-adventure game like he says, shoot the aliens!
Normally there's a red crosshair as a cursor.
Unfortunately, this game has no real ending. At one point it seems that you have shot all the aliens because there come no more, but after a time there comes a really fast one, but then the field is completely blank again. Even after that I couldn't spot a hint that it is over now.
Oh, and often you can't shoot some enemies!

Completed Game Announcements / Re: PONG Clone

Well, I thought it would be at least worth a comment:

Ehm, nice!  ;)

Besides, it's interesting to note that, while I was both playing player 1 and 2 I only made points with player 2, though I felt more like I was involved playing as player 1....strange!

You will let us wait us for long?
Well, I always think when a game gets announced that I can play it in two years....

Spectacular screens, really, it has the graphics quality of commercial adventures.
Only hope that the gameplay can hold up with it!

Well, I trust you  ;)

Sorry for my harshness.  ;)

Anyway I read the entire post. The fact that others made the same comment, is not a good reason for not making it myself. And the problem is that the chars are drawn in 2D. No other solution to make them fit the BGs, than to make them 3D!

Actually, I take it back that it wouldn't fir the backgrounds when I think of that the characters would be shaded - haven't thought of that. So?

Okay, I've downloaded now the Vestibule Demo and it's quite fun, though I didn't play it through the end, because I wanted to make a screenshot of it, but even after hours I didn't found a way to do that (even not with Hyper Snap DX!)
And I played Lassi Quest, ehm, a very interesting game, kinda what I expected for a first game with AGS.

The webpage of Vestibule is not online anymore, but nevertheless you can find it here what was there:
