Ok, I would like to know why does the ground cool first in the evening before the air does
For the same reason the ground warms first in the morning before the air does.

QuoteOh, the transmitter/receiver idea would make the concept of a voodoo doll possible

Man, think BIG! Think gaming!!!!

A wireless spinal impulse controller! Like play Crysis and actually feel tropical breeze on your face, taste salt water and smell gunpowder... whoah! And coming back to porn... eh

That's like... The Matrix.

But now you mention it, wasn't there some kind of experimental microchip they put on someone's brain, and he then was able to kinda move the mouse pointer with his mind ???

Thank you RickJ for clearing that up. My professor is often wrong with details like this, but at least the man knows how to teach. It's only my first semester in university and I'm glad I can understand when he's wrong (it's not the first time).

InCreator: I suppose it is possible, but still freaky. And Ghost, I don't think it would require a physical connection, both people could have some kind of transmitter/receiver that picks up the nerve signal and convert it to something else and vice-versa, like a modem works. I'm next to clueless with this stuff, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, the transmitter/receiver idea would make the concept of a voodoo doll possible :D.

Sorry for taking over the thread, but...

I'm not convinced. Every variable, including pointers, has a value when declared (which is what was left in the memory from other programs). Pointers having a "random" value when declared never generated any problems. So why now?

My other professor says that the above code never produces a segmentation fault. As long as you don't access that memory slot in any way (either read or write over it), it's all good.

Another opinion I heard is that it can only produce an error in some operation systems but not all.

I know it's pointless knowing anyway, because nobody would even want to have stray pointers, but it has been bugging me a lot :P

well, basically, we were having an example on how to use pointers instead of arrays.
Code: ags
//p is a pointer
for (i=0; i<MAX; i++)
{
    *p++ = i;
}

I know it's convenient to just say p[i ]=i, but this is for the sake of an example. Note that p is never used again after this code. This shouldn't ever produce a segmentation fault, right? Even though, when the loop ends, the pointer points to a place we don't know... But my professor insists that the above code might cause a segmentation fault.

Ok, a question that has bothered me for a while.

In C, when you set a pointer to point to an unknown memory slot (either by adding to it or simply setting a number to it), is there any possibility to cause a segmentation fault or any problem at all?

Note I'm talking about pointing somewhere, but not reading/writing over there.

I personally think there should never be a problem, as long as you don't attempt to read/write over it, which may or may not produce a segmentation fault depending on how lucky you are. Some people seem to disagree, one of them being my professor.

General Discussion / Re: Anyone have Portal?
Mon 08/12/2008 00:47:27
I finished Portal with:

GeForce Ti4200
Pentium IV 2.4 Ghz
512 Mb of RAM

I didn't have maximum settings, but it played just fine.

Thanks everyone, I guess I won't try to get any additional cooling unless I discover it's not enough.

Quotei used to be paranoid about overheating to the extend i left a sidepanel off the case and had a large tower fan blowing inside the pc constantly but now i don't bother.
That's exactly what I'm doing for my current PC :P but then again, my processor's fan broke down a couple of years ago and I've not bothered to fix it ::)

The case I ordered is ThermalTake VA8000BWS Armor Black, I found its features intriguing (like, for example, the 4 built-in fans) even though it looks very ugly from the screenshots.

I don't intend to have TV-out, but I ordered a Samsung SyncMaster 2053BW, which features a TFT 20" wide-screen, 8000:1 contrast, 2ms response time and 1680x1050 maximum resolution. That's more than enough for me...

And I suppose I'm going to get a GeForce 260.

I have at least two years of gaming to catch up to ;D

Hey all,

I'm going to buy a new pc really soon (place my order within 2 days). Only this time, I'm getting a monster. I've been so out of touch of hardware developments these past few years for various reasons, and every person I try to consult has given me different answers. Anyway, I've made up my mind about most things but there are two things that concern me now:

1)Graphics Card: Is it worth buying a 500 euros card, or should I settle with something less (like GTX 260)? I think that's what I'm going to do, because getting the top-of-the-line hardware just never seems to be wise. Still, I

2) Cooling. Now I'm pretty paranoid about cooling, especially because it was never enough for any of my previous computers (and I never overclocked anything), and also because the system is going to be pretty heavy. Now I'm buying a case with 4 built-in fans, and I'm trying to decide whether I should install a watercooling system or not. Keep in mind that I plan on expanding the system as time goes by (place additional RAM and graphic cards {when they become cheaper})

Is that even safe? I shudder at the thought that it could leak. I thought about putting a radiator on the side which I suppose is safer than directly putting watercooling mods on the actual components. And is that even useful, or should I only care about it once I do upgrade my system with more graphic cards? Or is it still going to make a substantial difference?

Thanks in advance!

When you put the label "Christian" on something - be it a game, a band, a movie, a book - you are labeling it with something. Very often, this label bears the misconception of second-rate material. Sometimes it's true - there are many Christian bands that are cheap clones of secular bands. However, there are many truly amazing Christian bands that are unfortunately overlooked because of prejudice.

I don't like it when people refuse to listen to a band simply because it's Christian. If you really are as open minded as you believe you are, what's the problem??? Likewise, why refuse to play a Christian game just because it's Christian, if it's still fun?

If I, a Christian, could read and enjoy books as blatantly anti-Christian as Philip Pullman's Dark Materials trilogy, why can't an Atheist enjoy a Christian work of art?

Unless, of course, we are talking about this.

I just came back from the theater. I thought it was pretty good... But then again, I was very young when I had last seen a James Bond film (with the exception of Casino Royale and The World is Not Enough) so I can't know how good it is compared to the rest of the series.

General Discussion / Re: ART GAME / II
Wed 19/11/2008 14:16:11
Am I the only one who was disappointed?

I feel like this new Art Game is only focusing on the graphics and much less on game play. The plot of the prequel was also pretty deep, but I found this be pretty shallow. A sequel so promising turned out to be nothing more but an overrated, graphically bloated next-gen eye candy for console fanboys.

Shame...

Sure, reality will set in before long when people realise that Obama isn't Jesus and can't work miracles.

And also before people realize that Obama isn't the Antichrist either (and I'm not speaking metaphorically).

Then maybe we should start an online petition.

I have just the right place: http://www.petitiononline.com/

There you go. I saved the day for one more time!

Yay, an internet argument!

We have elections tomorrow at my university where we'll vote for student representatives. I'm honestly voting for the hottest nominee just because she's hot, and I'm damn proud of it.

I doubt it's a virus. I could be wrong, but it sounds like some application is only using temporary space. Try closing all running applications (or alternatively restart your computer, preferably not starting any programs that auto-run with windows) and see if it's still there. If it is, try accessing it.
