First thing I thought was that it might be an April Fools' joke, even though I didn't notice this was posted yesterday. Hope I'm wrong about that! (Also, hope I can someday actually find a stupid disc for the original, or it gets posted on GOG or something...)

Edit: I should note that this would probably make a LOT more sense for a game played online, where each person has their own screen, rather than on one screen :p

I'd love to see something like a co-op Day of the Tentacle, where multiple players are controlling each of the characters--each player simultaneously solving his or her own puzzles, while also providing the means for other players to solve their puzzles.

And, if you don't have any friends, you can just switch between the characters as normal, so singleton players wouldn't be left out. Win-win! ...Except for the person who has to code it, anyway.

Hello all. My name is Paul. I'm working on the prototype for what is technically a licensed adventure game (it's based on a book that came out a few years ago about two friends traveling the country correcting typos; I don't think I should say any more than that here).

I need help with the art. It's just the prototype, so we're not (yet) looking at a full game. There's two basic "levels"; one's a tutorial, and one's a more advanced stage. We're looking at three screens, 3-4 characters (and accompanying animations), a bunch of inventory items, a couple cursors, maybe some help with the GUI, depending on how ambitious I get...stuff like that.

I can pay, but not a ton. I can also say that, if the project gets picked up and we both want to continue collaborating on it, there'd be a chance for you to keep working on the full game, if you wanted, which would be a commercial release.

I'll want to see art samples; I'm treating this like a big deal for me personally, so I want to make sure every aspect is as good as I can get it before I present it to the author (who's already totally on board with the idea). PM me if you're interested!

*sniff* AGS has come so far...!

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is one of my favorite things ever to happen to multiplayer gaming, if nobody's mentioned it yet.

Haha, those actually sound kind of hilarious! Can't wait to play them!

I have to say, that text at the top makes things look...a little less than legit:

"Free Scooby Doo Games, Scooby Doo Free Games Scooby Doo Games On The Internet"

2002 (or whenever) was a different time!

What a relief, I thought this was going to be an obituary!

Right?! I was all ready to get into a debate about how adventure games are alive and well, thank-you-very-much, or perhaps a philosophical discussion of the term "graphic adventure game," and its meaning in the modern age.

I'd agree with that but I think mostly because once you've solved the puzzles once Adventures Games are generally pretty short and sweet little stories.

Exactly! ...I mean, I guess I could get the same thing out of watching a walkthrough video of the game on YouTube, rather than actually playing it; but whatever!

The thing with 999 it that it has multiple path. So you can beat it 3 times and each time you get something different and not just the ending, even important parts of the story is omitted, and that encourage you to take another path, that was very clever.

I agree, to an extent, but even though there's branching paths to take, there's SO MUCH repeated dialogue that you have to get through, not to mention puzzles, that I only found it worthwhile to try a different path about a year later, when everything wasn't still fresh in my mind. If there was a way to skip directly to the branches, I probably would've played it a lot more than I have.

You know, I'm actually much more likely to replay an adventure game than games from any other genre, if it's funny enough and/or has a great story. I'm like that with movies and books, though, too; I'm happy to enjoy the experience any number of times if I enjoyed it enough the first time.

Oh no, badly written story?!  :o

I played through the game twice to learn more about the story--didn't get all of the endings, because seriously, I can only play through the same exact scenes over and over again--but I found the story quite engaging!

Part of me will always have a soft-spot for the giant block of verbs at the bottom of the screen (and I bet if I ever try to develop an AGS game on my own, that's what I'll go with), but I think the right-button examines/left-button interacts style could make an indie game feel more modern, since that's what so many of the big boys use now.

You could even take it a step further, and do what a game like Book of Unwritten Tales does: one button, one interaction. Always context sensitive. In that game specifically, the first time you click on something, the character examines it, and the second time, s/he interacts with it. Seemed pretty efficient!

You're too kind, miguel! Really, I'm not sure I could do Ed Wood justice. Still...if anyone were to take on such a project, I'm sure I couldn't help but volunteer my services in some capacity...

The Plan 9 adventure game technically isn't a re-telling of the original movie--it's about the actors and writers and the development OF the original movie. I could totally go for an AGS-ified Plan 9.

I think maybe the background could use some texture to it, or maybe be darkened just a bit, but other than that it looks nice!

I based this sprite on a picture of me  :'(

Eeek! I'm sorry! It's still a nice-looking sprite, I promise!

That's weird. In my old age (27) I don't have patience for real-time RPG combat anymore.

Actually I rarely did - usually it's such a boring click-fest, slower and messier than a good turn-based system. Combat in RPGs is generally awfully boring anyway.

Hah! See, I'm the opposite--that's how I tend to view turn-based combat, as a boring "mash A until it's over" fest. I can usually get into the strategy of it for boss battles, but I generally don't have the patience or interest to do that for every random encounter that occurs for every three seconds of walking.

I have a feeling I'm not the first person to say this, but that trailer is a thing of beauty. PLEASE keep it up! I've been playing adventure games since I was a kid and still haven't gotten all the way through Maniac Mansion, but now I'm SUPER excited to play it again.
