General Discussion / Re: Anime

If you liked Spirited Away, watch Castle in the Sky (made by the same guy). Love that movie - I vaguely recall seeing it on ITV when I was a kid? So its a bit of a nostalgia trip too.

Personally I just see anime as another genre. Some of it I like, and some I don't (IMO, most of the Manga stuff is a bit pants). I think I probably like some of it, because they can have such imaginative storylines without going mad with special effects. Its a more flexible medium?

I try not to get nervous about things, but sometimes I can't avoid it.

When I'm thinking too hard about something: I bite my lip, bite my nails, rub my eyes, fiddle with my hair, or scratch my head.

When I'm particularly nervous: (like when I had an exam this afternoon) I tend to get stomach pains, and feel a bit nauseous. I tend to get a few nervous twitches as well, like my knee jiggling or something.

In extreme situations: I have full-blown panic attacks, where I hyperventilate and shake uncontrollably.

Is it really any wonder that I try to avoid stressful situations?

I don't like to be the voice of gloom here, but there is no way you can finish things with this girl, that aren't going to hurt. But the longer you extend it, the more its going to hurt you. I can promise that it will hurt less over time. I know its probably what everyone tells you, but it really is true. And though it may not seem like it now, you will learn something from the experience, you will come out of it stronger. Good luck.

All you can really do is make an instruction file for the standard Sierra GUI, as most games will tend to use this. And perhaps include a brief description of the SCUMM, and verb coin GUIs. If someone makes a specialised GUI, then I guess its up to them to explain how to use it.

Personally I don't really read the specs of a game. I mean I skim over them to make sure the game will run on my computer, but it doesn't really influence my choice of games. Most of my adventure game purchases are influenced by adventuregamers reviews etc. I also read user reviews at gamefaqs. One with a low score, and one with a high score, so I can get a good overview of the game. Despite this, I still buy an average of a game a week - and I wonder where my student loan goes?  :P

I wish the media would stop making George W. Bush = The United States.

And I wish that they didn't make Tony Blair = United Kingdom.
Just because he kisses Bush's butt, doesn't mean we do. :P

Quote from: Rui "Puss in Boots" Pires on Sat 08/01/2005 18:55:22Heck, people still love Gabriel Knight today, and though it was amazing when it first came out, graphic wise, it's now severely outdated. But people still play it.

Sure, they still play it, but would they still buy it?

Actually, I bought Gabriel Knight, and I think it was well worth the money. This was only a few years back when they released the box set, so its nothing to do with nostalgia.

Off-topic: Kudos to Rui for posting the XP installer - just got a new computer, and thought I'd never get to play it again. Works like a charm. ;D

Well, if you got a friend to walk slowly in various directions, while you took pictures, you could probably manage to get enough for a decent walkcycle. It might be a bit more difficult for more involved animations, but it could work.

Good luck, and take care of yourself. The AGS community will await your return!

My love for you, shines like the sun,
Over meadows where we once roamed,
When wildflowers graced your hair,
And hardship we had not known.

Look to our secret grove,
Of passion, among the trees,
And there you'll find my heart,
Hidden beneath the leaves.

Hah, I didn't use "under" either!

General Discussion / Re: I've been published!

I've got a couple of old poems up there as well. Search for, first name: Joanna, Last name: Preston. They're under the name Joanna Mary Preston, but it doesn't let you search for two first names.

I didn't twig on at first, but I was too tight to buy the books anyway, so I came out ok. I did get a little suspicious, when a friend in my class commented that she was getting her poem published. I hope she didn't fork out for the book! At any rate, I like writing poetry, I'm not terribly fussed what people think of it.

I quite like your poem Alec - feel free to be as vain as you want!

To get out more. I think I've forgotten what fresh air tastes like. And maybe exercise a bit more too while I'm at it.
